Very good price! One of these plus a decent set of speakers should sound better than the Z-5500s because you'll end up with far better midrange, and it'll cost you about the same.

I have one of these (had for around 5 years) and it hasn't missed a beat. Only criticism is that the menus and controls are not very intuitive so it was a bit of a pain to setup with all my devices, but once it is setup it works great with my Harmony remote
This is a good unit. I have had one for prob 5 or 6 years and it's still going. If you can snap one up its worth it.

Can't speak about audio/build quality, but RD-6502 and RD-6503 are pretty much the same, just different colour in stock, and 6503 supports USB and optional BT dongle. VSX-518 supports component video and has more stereo inputs (7 plus a 3.5mm jack in front) compared to the Sherwoods (6502 has 4 plus 1 RCA in front and 6503 has 5 plus a 3.5mm jack in front)

Does it get audio from hdmi? Sounds like it just switche fom 2 inputs and you still need a separate s/pdif input at the same time.
RD-6502/3 don't have HDMI. RD-6513 doesn't support HDMI audio throughput need to use coax or spdif

BTW - why is everyone complaining about a lack of HDMI connectivity?
I suppose having a single cable to route the audio and video feed is more simplified but it really isn't a big deal and certainly not necessary because it will sound the same when hooked up to a good pair of speakers.
In my case, the HTPC only has HDMI out for the audio. And the ease of using a single cable for everything is a wonder as well.

The wording confuses me. It mentions 'throughput' and 'repeater', which kind of suggests that it doesn't actually use the audio from the HDMI. Does it? Or does it just pass the audio through to HDMI port?

Repeater means you can plug in multiple HDMI sources into the AV receiver. The RD6505 has 3 HDMI in and 1 out and yes it throughput's or outputs both video & audio via the one cable, HDMI
That is still confusing. We want the video "throughput" but not the audio.
The HDMI audio should stay and be decoded! The language is far from clear.
