Looks like a pretty good spec'd laptop.
It was listed about $150 dearer a few days ago (when I originally purchased for EOFY! Trying to get them to come to the party)… so it's come down in price further.

man if there was an option to upgrade the vram i'd 2070 the hell out of this.

    • +1

You do know 2070 Max q is not a real 2070.
Make sure you research the difference if your laptop already have a 10x0 already.

In most case, the performance of 2070 Max q doesn't justify upgrading to a new laptop.

thanks for letting me know :)

So, now that it has the minimal bezel design, a 97Wh battery and an H series processor, it's like a "poor" man's XPS 15? Cause it doesn't have the premium features like Thunderbolt 3, a better display and a slimmer design, but it still offers similar functionality…

Gotta check the reviews cause it looks like a pretty good deal at this price…oh wait, there's none, cause Dell doesn't advertise Vostro much.

    • +2

Could look for the similar New Inspiron 5790.
      Also it does mention Thunderbolt.

"USB 3.1 Type-C™ with Thunderbolt™"… not sure on the version though.

      • Oopsie, my bad. I was accidentally looking at the 13 inch 5390's specs here. Well, that's even better.

    • The lack of IPS tag scares me.
Nothing worse than a cheap LCD TN panel.
Even a cheap vs good IPS panel is night and day these days…

      • just finished talking with dell support, they told me its a TN panel. At first they just copy pasted the information on the product page "15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-glare LED Backlight Non-touch Wide Viewing Angle Display" then came back to me after I asked again what panel type is it. I assume TN is correct, but considering the person didn't know what I was talking about at first has me concerned.

        • It's not a TN panel. Did they say that specifically that it's TN or just that it isn't IPS. I'm 99% sure it's one of those IPS-like panels like AHVA (IPS is an LG trademark). The viewing angles are too good

          • @[Deactivated]: and want to know what type of display it has? Is it IPS or TN?"
            06/21/2019 05:06:38PM Agent (Krystal_Whittle): "let me check"
            06/21/2019 05:10:12PM Agent (Krystal_Whittle): "15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-glare LED Backlight Non-touch Wide Viewing Angle Display"
06/21/2019 05:11:39PM -: "Yeah I have seen that in the product page, unfortunately that still doesn't answer my question about what type of display it. It should either an IPS, TN or VA panel."
            06/21/2019 05:12:42PM Agent (Krystal_Whittle): "its a TN display"
06/21/2019 05:13:25PM -: "Ok thanks, do you happen to know if the inspiron 15 7000 is a TN display as well? https://www.dell.com/en-au/work/shop/business-laptops-ultrab…
            06/21/2019 05:14:17PM Agent (Krystal_Whittle): "LET ME CHECK"
            06/21/2019 05:19:52PM Agent (Krystal_Whittle): "15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-glare LED Backlight Non-touch Wide Viewing Angle Display"

ended the chat after she copy pasted the same thing and the capital "LET ME CHECK" in the moment came off as rude.

            • @iTaco: 11:47:48 Agent Sirisha_Durgam
              It is non IPS display
              11:48:04 Agent Sirisha_Durgam
              15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) Anti-glare LED Backlight Non-touch Wide Viewing Angle Display

Another person saying non IPS. Think I might just buy it and return it within 15 days if its not what I want.

            • @iTaco: I think the support person didn't know what she's talking about.

Wide Viewing Angle Display is almost certainly AHVA going by Dell's other laptops

There's more displays types than just TN/IPS/VA btw (VA isn't AHVA)

      • It does say "Wide viewing angle display" in the tech specs, so that gives a bit of confidence? Probably the same cheap, low-brightness IPS panels found in the Inspiron gaming line.

  • Good deal. I was considering downgrading from my XPS 15 9570 and selling it while its still got a lot of value.

    • What's the spec I might be interested since you're in Sydney like me!

      • Top of the line model. This one here: https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-laptops/xps-15/spd/xps-…

If you're interested let me know!

        • Definitely will consider it if the price is decent. Let know me know numbers either here or PM me and I'll get back to you!

          • @Pentanol: I'm selling a monitor first (Dell U2718 4k HDR monitor) Chasing $600. If i can sell that first then i'll sell the laptop. NOt sure on laptop priec.

Why aren't any of these good spec machines touch screen

    • most people don't want to touch their 15 inch screens with gaming GPU's mainly because people rarely play touch style games on a beefy machine.

That's why they add it on the smaller 2 in 1's or 14 inch or smaller laptops.

I understand though, I was thinking why they couldn't just add it if only to make scrcpy work easier.

    • +1

yes. but only because with Dell, touch == gloss; so you can't get gloss without touch.

Nobody should want to put crap on their screen by touching it!!! :)

I'm in love with that battery size

  • It's an XPS 15's specs but in a less attractive body.

I wish Dell would allow you to opt out of Mcafee's 30 day trial.

  • I hope they will offer 10% above cashback for DELL again.

  • Review it’s the i5 version though, Inspirion 15 7000 (rebranded Vostro 7590).

    • Inspiron and Vostro are two different machines are they not? Inspiron have U series CPUs from what I recall

      • The 2019 updated Inspirion 15 7000 7590 comes with H series CPUs as opposed to the U series CPUs in the old 7580. Don’t see much differences between the Vostro 7590 and Inspiron 7590, apart from Inspiron being the consumer line and Vostro being the business line.

        • Ah okay, just been looking into it now.
Currently the Inspiron is listed at $2499 (8GB RAM) so no idea why you would buy that as opposed to this Vostro? Vostro seems like a much better option? Vostro weighs like 300 grams more and is aluminium chassis as opposed to magnesium alloy chassis for $700 difference seems like a bo brainer?

          • @iTaco: It’s a pretty good deal for the specs comparing it with the XPS 15, might want to look at the thermals though.

  • If you use the coupon, will you still be eligible for cashback from Shopback?

CashRewards currently has 8.4% cashback at Dell Australia, without using the coupon, $1799.01*0.916=$1647.89.

  • Very tempted. I've been looking to upgrade? From my 2013 XPS 15 9530. My XPS has a higher screen resolution but think I'd much rather prefer 1920x1080 then I think it's 3200x1800 or something.

I was looking at an i5 XPS, but that's $2200 or so I believe. So this seems like great value for a slim and sleek laptop. Just wish there was more information available on it.

Does dell have a return policy if I don't like it can return it?

  • There has to be some reviews around for this laptop? specs all sound great for the price (except the screen panel if TN - that's a deal breaker)

    • Reviewer say it lacks an ethernet port. You need an adaptor/dock at your own cost.

And for a business class laptop only has 1 year warranty rather than the standard 3.

1650 is slower than the 1060. Maybe better power consumption. So probably in a few months time it will be the new 1050 you see it much more affordable builds in entry level laptops closer to $1000, that can barely run the latest Games on high setting.

Don't pay a premium for the new gen.

      It's basically the same laptop.

TLDR: Not a TN panel, good specs, really thin/light, very poor thermals - CPU gets stupid hot, limited to single channel RAM because it only has one ram slot (wtf?), good build quality, better battery life than anything else with this kind of performance on the market,

  • Check out this review https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/c0hwoh/early_review_o…
Apparently the fan noise can be loud and few people mentioned that even when the laptop is not running anything, there's still fan noise.
I'm tempted since the laptop have good specs for gaming and is lightweight compares to other gaming laptops (1.6kg).But the thermal and fan noise worries me.

    • Well mines been built and has shipped (assumably from China).
30 day price guarantee so I will get the refund apparently.

I’ve read some people have undervolted the CPU not ideal though.

It was this or the Lenovo L340 Gaming but the small battery on that deterred me (even though they say it’s 9hrs)…. will comment when I get mine.

      • I'm actually struggling between this one or the lenovo L340 gaming as well. Both of them might have thermal throttle problem.
        Also considering lenovo y530.

      • Would love to here more and maybe some pics when you get yours? Any eta when it should arrive to you?

        • Looks like it is the 8th July! I do live in North QLD though so everything takes a week from Sydney regardless.
But if it is shipped from China to Sydney today, I can't see why I shouldn't receive it by early next week.

    • Can confirm. I got the i7.
Will be refunding but really don't know where to go next.

Considering the i5 at less than half the price, and reports the i5 is quiet in comparison.

Edit: I got the Inspiron, not Vostro.

    • Starting Weight: 1.85 kg

  • Seems like EOFY@5EPPDISCOUNT is product specific, not working site wide.

    Review

So I run the Cinebench 20 just like FYI on YouTube did with the Inspiron 15 7590 i5.

Details are on 2202pts… however the CPU thermal still hits 100C.
The fan does kick in and keeps it maintained at around 90C whilst benchmark is running.

    General use about 45C.

It is quite a lovely machine.

    • How do you rate the build quality (compared to say the cheaper Inspirons or more expensive XPS's, if you've seen either of them)? There have been suggestions elsewhere that the display is low brightness / only 6-bit?

    • Can you post some links to pics? Plenty of videos on the Inspiron 7590 but nothing on the aluminium Vostro 7590.

BTW, seems cashrewards 8.4% cashback is finished.

Shopback are offering 10% cashback on Vostro purchases:
      https://www.shopback.com.au/dell-australia

    • Can you please comment on the display panel. Is the colour gamut in he order of 60%, 80% or 100% of sRGB?

      • +1

The manual states that the 1080p display is 72% NTSC, which equates to about 100% sRGB.
