    • Stranger things have happened… I think if OP had kept it to themself (as someone else has pointed out), Optus might have honoured a few.

A couple of years ago I accidentally stumbled across a Bonds Outlet pricing error that had a number of items marked as $0. I took a punt and placed a fairly large order paying $9 for shipping since it was below the free shipping threshold. Incredibly a few weeks later the order arrived. Since a few of them items were out of stock, I got "refunded" for the missing items and ended up getting thousands worth for free. OF course that's thousands RRSP. In reality, it probably only cost bonds pennies each. I actually took some time looking around the site and only placed the one order. From memory, the error was live for a few hours, so one really could have racked up quite the collection from Bonds if they wanted. I have a strong feeling others had also stumbled across it as well since there seemed to be a number of people selling the select "sale" styles on eBay and Gumtree.

Good guy OP, lost the opportunity to potentially get a free phone for some internet clout.

      • Had similar with super cheap auto. I got my items that were -$20 each item and picked up at a few super cheap and then head office caught on and cancelled. For some reason it ended up in giving me credit on my Supercheap auto account to the full amount and not what I paid so I ended up buying more free/cheap stuff lol

    • +2

Common sense goes out the window when crossing fingers for a bargain…

  • +7

first time buying a price error item. Let me enjoy it till it lasts

    • I have my fingers crossed for you, fellow bargain lover.

  • -7

$0.01 more than it’s worth. Ripoff.

  • +29

Just got an email from optus apologising for the price error.

As a compensation they are sending me a Huawei P40 pro with Hongmeng 😑

    I kindly opted for a 1c refund .

    • +1

is this going over my head? or did you really turn down a p40 pro for 1c?

      • +9

I turned down 51% of company shares earlier.

      • You got trolled hard

        • got trolled by the other guy further up saying they called optus as well :(

fell for it hook, line and sinker

  • +6

    One winner guys .

Optus has a lot of data on some of you guy's LOL :)

The new customer's details are the gold .

    • Why the negs? So true.

      • +1

Well, some of us already with optus and they already have our information.

  • +18

I'd love to see the look on the face at the guy at the Optus warehouse at 9am on Monday.

"Sooo…I wonder what my day will be like toda…. huh…. PACKAGE AND SHIP 26000 PHONES?!?"
    "Yep…I quit"

    • +5

Like they're gonna have 26000 phones in stock lol.

  • +4

Anybody started looking for a good case yet? 😂

    • +3

For 1c you should be able to use the phone confidently without a case.

So I bought 2 just in case I drop the first one.

      • Confident should not be expensive. It depends which country you learn.

    • +1

The case would cost thousands of times more than the phone.

Just buy a few thousand phones instead.

  • +4

The comments here make some good bedtime reading LOL.

I was lucky enough too saw the deal in the first 10 minutes, ordered one and received an order confirmation email. I'd say the chances of getting the phone is 0.01…

  • +3

Let's put things into perspective. Some people ordered 100 phones and that's $123,000.

Nobody is going to get their phones.

    • +6

This indeed. If everyone ordered just one, we still would't get the phones but probably would have set off less alarm bells at Optus and prrhaps someone would have got one.

Kuddos to the OP for posting this here and ruining their own change to let one slip through the system.

    • +1

There is a razor slim chance that Optus cancel all orders for multiple phones and ship only to those who ordered one phone, but I doubt it.

      • +1

I doubt any will be honoured.

However I would be good with what you said. I ordered 2, but did one under my name and one under my wife's using different emails so it wouldn't fall as one order of two.

  • -5

As much as I hope you all get it
I was supposed to put my used one on eBay this weekend and this would of destroyed it's value
So I also hope none of you get it

    • +1

      ..?

So put it on eBay then? Why are you stalling?

All you're doing is increasing (or not, since I doubt a single one will be honored) the chance of it being even less valuable by the time you put it on eBay. It sounds and awful lot like you are waiting for it to have its value "destroyed."

    • I know the feeling, similar thing happened to me a month ago with a very high end motherboard. Still haven't sold it.

  • +8

It's 9:30am still no cancelled or shipped email from them. 😎😎😎

    • +12

As long as we make it to COB their cancellation emails will turn into pumpkins and they'll be soul-bound to honour the sales.

    • I heard that at 9:15 they were legally obligated to give us the phones.

  • +13

The optus executives are having brunch, browsing through the comments on a projector screen and laughing about how we all think we are going to score a 1c phone.

They probably invited over telstra and Vodafone execs for a good laugh

    • +1

I thought we were already laughing with them?

    • I doubt they are having a good laugh. At best this is going to cost a few hundred dollars in lost productivity cancelling orders. At worst it will be many thousands and take months to resolve.

Call centre staff are likely to be dreading the deluge of calls and steps required to sort out the mess.

    • +2

Ever worked in a Contact Centre? Errors like this will cause hours of admin and abusive phone calls/chats with angry customers thinking it is their right to receive the phone.

      • -1

There probably having a chuckle about that too over a few beers in the CEO office

    • -1

I don't think that's true. In the order confirmation email, it says:

"Once the product is shipped, you can track the delivery on the StarTrack website using your order number. "

EDIT: It seems that they only have the Razer Phone 2 and Google Home Hub listed as their outright devices online, so maybe they're trying to clear out their stock for these devices?

      • -1

Doesn’t make sense clearing stock at 1c. Clearly Optus had done some sort of pricing mistake..

        • +1

Of course its a pricing error but the fact they still have it listed at RRP, being the only outright smartphone, indicates to me that they probably have a lot of stock and are wanting to sell them through a different means.

          • @skido: Agreed. You’re right there’s a reason it’s still being sold.

    • “Shawn” clearly doesn’t know what he is talking about as the phone is still being sold outright on the deal link albeit different price

    • -2

Shawn would never lie to me.

Edit: I guess the sarcasm was lost on some.

      • That’s a really long comment for sarcasm :)

    • You broke the first rule of OzbargainClub.

  • -5

hey i have an idea when we all get email cancellation, what if everyone that made order, call optus to make a short complain? lol imagine hundreds of phone calls…..

    • +3

Why not a long "complain" then?

  • -4

Oh guys I’ve been waiting for this so long. I always missed good deals/freebies/price errors. Pls tell me we are gonna get it 😂 11.31am and still no email. What are they doing? 🙄 maybe they are not aware?

    • +1

they are delivering apologies letter one by one personally to your door

      • Along with information about their current plans and offer they have available. It might take them a few weeks to get their door to door sales apology people to everyone.

  • Out of curiosity those that paid by credit card have you actually had your 1 cent debited?

    • +1

      Yes

    • Not sure.

    • +1

      Pending charge

    • yes

  • +2

Not honouring the deal? Well, it's time to call A Current Affair, Today's Tonight, 60 Minutes, ABC Q&A, FBI, NSA, CIA and the rest of those 3 letters organisations!

  • So when do I chase up my refund?

    • +2

I want my cent back, and I want it in a cheque!

  • No email other than order confirmations (four phones) and paypal receipts.

I worked hard for that 4c, I had to click, press autocomplete form and press pay four times. I suspect cancellations but Im so glad I didn't have to type all the details, I would of considered class action over lost wages there.

Is not a man entitled to his 4c worth of sweat of his brow?

    • I think if you approach it this way of lost wages, Optus would be happy to pay you back the 4c.

    • I think a class action based on negligence has a more reasonable chance of success. Receiving hundreds of orders from OzBargain should be a red flag. Every retailer in Australia should be expected to check the referrer (e.g. OzBargain) and if price is significantly below recent history and override flag is not set, then place a hold on the orders.

Harvey Norman already have scripts to welcome OzBargainers so it shouldn't be too hard :-).

  • +2

Looks like nobody's getting a phone because you just know some people had to order multiple phones. As if buying one phone isn't enough, you need more? I missed out but I think Optus will probably just refund everyone.

    • +5

They weren't going to honour even if everyone just bought one…

    • +1

Yes. If everyone only bought just one 1c phone, everyone would have received their $1240 phone. But people had to be greedy..

      • +2

        Blame the resellers

      • +1

I didn't mean to imply that people were going to get their 1c phones-I've already said before that they wouldn't be getting one. But judging from some comments, it seems that the fact that some people still think they're getting 1c phone is telling. Even if the price error was $100, some people would still buy multiple phones. But yes, a lot of people are greedy.

      • Blame capitalist democracy…

  • +1

Tracking number still not working, I'm starting to think they haven't even shipped it yet…

    • You will get a text saying something like the below msg when it's active/shipped:
"OPTUSMSG: Your Optus order XXXXXXXXX has left the warehouse and will be delivered to you. Track your delivery at track-link. Need Help? Chat with us online at chat-website."

  • No confirmation no cancellation I think Optus is punishing us by making us waiting in the limbo and expectations

  • Anyone gone on optus chat to find out what the go is? Doubt we’ll get them but one can be hopefull lol

    • Why don't you try and let us know?

      • +5

I talk to someone called George Agdgwgo wanting to wire me monies instead.

        • Well, did you?

        • +2

I'm still waiting for confirmation that the pigeon has been removed from my bank account.

          • @gooddealmate: PayPal just took money out of my bank account for the purchase… that's a good sign right?

    • +3

Please don't. This is 1cent we paid to get some kind of excitement. Your chat or call will end it

  • -5

I went on Optus Live Chat.
They said: "These orders will be handled by a specialty team. Please call 1800 780 182."
    I called the number.
They said that they will be cancelling all of the orders at this price and refunding the $0.01 within 5 business days.
No mention of compensation for lost interest earnings 😉

  • -5

Did they really say they will cancel all the orders? 🙄🙄🙄 what about the time I spent? Did they say anything about honouring? Tbh, if I was the person who posted this, I wouldn’t have done it. Then he’d have had more chance of getting this phone. But now everyone ordered..

    • +4

That's not in the ozbargain community spirit.

    • +1

"what about the time I spent?" Username checks out :P

  • +15

Update: Still haven't got any confirmation or cancellation from Optus. I can only assume that they are processing my order and carefully packaging it for me ready for postage :) lol

    • Wake up today is Monday 😄😄

  • +3

Optus have confirmed that it was a genuine pricing error and no orders that were placed at $0.01 will be fulfilled. All orders have been cancelled.

    • +4

      The Fresh Prince? No way!

    • +3

It didn't seem like a pricing error. These seemed like they were being sold for what they were worth… ;-)

      • I think you have mistaken it with Huawei P30 Pro ;p

    • +11

Why are there so many desperately contacting Optus to confirm that its a pricing error?

Obviously, this is a straight out pricing error case. But there are some that are less obvious, and the only chance for those to go through is for people not keep on calling up and telling the retailer that its an error.

    • +1

      Do you have source/ email?

    • -6

      Nobody feed the troll

      • +10

says the troll who got precisely 128 negs for an earlier comment. the irony lol
