Cmon Google, I'll gp back to these if they release an AX version

    • what does AX mean ?

      • The new wifi stabdard, or wifi 6 if you wanna call it that.

Its popping up in many devices now.

        • surely theres a Google WIFI 2 on the horizon with this feature

@drezy: No one knows what Google does till they do it. These have been in the market for a while now, an update would be welcome.

Maybe if the Pixel 4 gets wifi 6 it'll be the trigger.

I would also hope they have tri-band in the new version and have a dedicated backhaul band.

      • I'm ok with Ethernet, but yeah anything to improve is good.

They also only reported 100mbps throughput between them in my experience which always perplexed me, unsure if that's been fixed.

I genuinely love the app though, so simple to use, an accessible externally without any tweaks.

        • Some more features would be handy though, things like being able to configure dynamic dns providers instead of relying on a client running on a PC.

how this differ to getting a wifi repeater?

  • +2

The drawback of a wireless repeater is that it effectively halves the bandwidth for any computers connecting to it, rather than the primary router.

The degradation is far less on these Googles. I've been using these for a while after other methods including repeater.
The setup on these is dead easy through your phone app and so fast. They instantly solved some serious dead spot issues I'd been having - BLISS!

Not cheap, but over the long haul a great investment if you're not interested in techy customisation.

Live in 3 storey townhouse. Signal on the top floor is a bit rubbish. Guessing if I have one on each floor then it would improve significantly?
I also have a data point on each floor. Would this help further if I used that instead of wifi. Apologies for the possible dumb question

My thoughts are that with the correct hub positioning on each floor, a 3-pack of these things would perform magic in your multi-story place - just plug them in to your modem(modem router) download the app and away you go - the app also helps you optimize the positioning of each hub . A no-brainer. Forget about the upstairs wall connections.
