Does that pic on the screen make anyone else think of a space themed Battlefield game???

    • +1

      I haven't played a Battlefield game since 1942 <_<

Really struggling to reason the extra cash over B8. What's your thoughts?

Give the review by Vincent at HDTVtest a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG8zcYLrgt8

    • I wouldn't bother at all.

    • +1

I personally want the C9 for the full bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports… I'm still using a 50" Samsung plasma and want another TV that won't need upgrading for 10years ^_^

      • +1

Ouch, yea I've already watched good old Vincent, it was this video which mostly convinced me to buy the B8 as 2.1 is something that I don't care about one bit as I only stream my media, the only thing pushing me to a C9 is the slightly better latency for gaming, but it's so slight.

      • Me too. Also to have a TV ready for when my internet can stream 4K 60FPS.

        Don't burst that bubble…

        • +1

          can NBN 100/40 not broadcast 4k 60fps?

          • @serpserpserp: Not everyone has NBN yet.

            • @NobalaKoba: Actually since I got my C9, I've learnt that my cable connection at 50/2 can stream 4k UHD on Netflix. But yeah, it'd be dicey even on a strong ADSL2 connection.

    • +3

This TV was supposed to have 120Hz BFI mode, as well as a more granular approach to BFI (three intensity settings), but they pulled those features after sending out early review units.

That has singlehandedly taken this from a slam dunk to a question of whether or not this will have adequate VRR support in the current PC/console ecosystem.

      • +1

        Great insight Jass, thanks.

      • If you watch Vincent's review you'll see that the BFI is a non issue anyway and is usually turned off. I think the firmware across the LG range has been updated to kind of fix a lot of this problem. It isn't perfect, but barely noticeable in real world viewing.

But that still isn't a buy for the C9, as even the B7's B8's of the world still benefit from the upgrade.

I think the dithering of blacks on the C9 is a lot better than its predecessors though, so those low light shots can look a lot better on the C9.

        • Yeah as I understand it, 120 Hz BFI and those additional BFI options were sacrificed in order to deliver that solution.

Had they not disappeared from the feature set, this would be an easy recommend as a TV to buy and keep for its lifespan.

    • yeh agree! $800 saving at the mo is too convincing to me! Only 2019s have airplay streaming, if that matters tho and you dont have appleTV already

  • Quick rundown on why I should/should not look at upgrading from the LG 65" C8 OLED to the LG 65" C9 OLED? I would wait for a decent price and sell the current TV to offset the cost.

    • +3

Probs not worth it as There'll be panel improvements in the next couple of years for better brightness etc. But up to you mate.

    • If you aren't being limited why would you consider upgrading?

      • I would have to do some research again as I am a little hazy on the details but isn't eARC a big deal for those who stream media? I have an Nvidia Shield TV and would like to be able to stream games from my PC to the TV from time to time.

        • -2

Well given literally zero context except that you seemingly don't care about ewaste or money, then yes you should upgrade as it's the new model, this is obvious. If you are a normal person, then no you shouldn't as it's a waste of money

          • +3

@onlinepred: My first post literally says I would want to wait for a decent price and also sell my current C8 model to offset the cost, how is this not caring about money?

EDIT I have not negged you but the tone that is coming across in your words from my perspective is not helpful.

            • @hey aj: I want to upgrade for no reason at all, should I? You said there is no difference. Ammo missing something?

              • +1

@onlinepred: OnlinePred… You're asking for advice here too mate. Tone down the hate, there's no need for it.

                • @Claytomon: I'll stop, they edited their comment after I replied though so now this discussion doesn't make sense and makes me seem like a douche.

              • +1

@onlinepred: No I think you have misread my original post, I will break it down for you.

I asked the community to provide a brief rational on why I should look at upgrading from a C8 to C9 TV or why I should not look at upgrading from a C8 to C9 TV.

The general question is "should I upgrade?" with the hopes in getting responses of a technical nature on if the jump between the two models is worth it.

You cannot edit a post after someone has already replied to my knowledge.

Also I am not lazy, I have done a comparison of specs from the LG Australia website, this looks like the differences between C8 and C9:

      • AirPlay 2
        Coming (June 2019)

Everything else is identical with the C9 being slightly heavier than the C8. Are there any game changers (like maybe the eARC?) you guys can see between the two?

      • Oh wow I didn't know the TV was able to do BT headphones, that is a plus!

      • The c9 is literally one of the biggest updates for oled thanks to full bandwidth HDMI 2.1. The c9 has auto latency mode, eARC, variable refresh rate, super low input lag at 13ms, supports 4k120hz hdr and 4.4.4 subsampling. They are all features the c8 doesn't have.

        • And worth trying to sell my C8 and buy a C9? I do have an Xbox One X and an Nvidia Shield setup.

          • +1

@hey aj: Unless you game and will get the new consoles next year I wouldn't bother as most of the features are gaming related. I would probably wait a few years till the c10 or c11 hopefully the next gen panels will be brighter and hit the 1000 nits.

    • +1

To be honest. If I could buy a C8 right now I would get one, I don't have a 4k console and only a NVIDIA Shield like you do. Actually I do have a Nintendo Switch, so the lower latency would be nice in that respect. But really, unless you are a super twitch gamer, you probably wouldn't notice the difference in latency between the C8 and C9.

Also as I said above, the dithering of blacks is supposedly better on the C9.

I am possibly about to pull the trigger. Just wish the 65 was sub-4k!

      • +1

I am possibly about to pull the trigger. Just wish the 65 was sub-4k!

If you are thinking about pulling the trigger on the 55" but want the 65" I recommend you holster that weapon and wait. I saw a lot of posts from C8 55" owners lamenting that they did not wait three or more months to grab the 65" for a more palatable price.

I was like you wanting to grab the 55" for an attractive price (they seem to drop a lot quicker than the 65") but waited longer for the 65" to drop and I am happy I did wait, could not go back to a tiny little 55" now!

        • +3

I am upgrading from a 13 year old LCD 40" TV with dead pixel lines across it. Plus I have a small living room so I figure it'll just blow my mind anyway.

          • @serpserpserp: In that case fair enough, yes it's going to blow your mind!

    • +2

If you have to buy a TV right now and you are definitely willing to purchase the extremely expensive hardware in the future to run games at 4K and 120HZ then you could rationalize upgrading from the C8 to the C9. However there aren't even GPU's out there at the moment that can export 4k at 120HZ with a HDMI cable, only via Display Port (which this TV does not have). I think that is definitely the biggest difference between the C8 and the C9 so otherwise you can quite happily stick with the C8 for now I reckon.

      • Great advice, thanks for that Aetherin.

Good price this early in the life cycle.

    Bought one. Thanks OP.

Keeping a keen eye on the 65” too..the pyro code runs till 5th June so hopefully they lower the price before then :)

I presume we get free postage if we sign up for the trial of eBay plus?

The 55” has come down $50 since the deal was posted.

I think the 65"has come down by $100 too.

      I don't think so.

Ended up getting one myself… Couldn't wait for 65" to get cheap enough 😅😅

  • Will any store price match with Appliance Central given they ship out of Villawood?

    • Perhaps, but no one to my knowledge will price match the eBay store.

  • Do you realise that the 65 inch model is also eligible with the pyro20 deal? 1000 dollars off which means 65 inch model for $4290.00.

    • That's more than $1700 more expensive than the 55"…

      • Thats pretty cheap for the 2019 model…

  • +1

I got the C9 55" from this deal. Amazing TV and can't fault it. Very happy!
