      it's 4gb/month

      • -2

Optus chat say that it is 4gb to use for the YEAR

        • That's not how i read the CIS.

I prefer to fallback onto the CIS opposed to an Indian call center.

        • I’ve just heard the opposite on Optus chat. Doesn’t make logical sense anyway that the 4GB would be for a whole year.

        • -2

Classic Optus. Hire Indian staff who don't even know their own products. Next they'll be hiring staff who don't even speak English lol. Wait, that's already happened!

    • 4GB Data to use per month in Zone 1 countries. It doesn't reset per country. Think of all the Zone 1 countries as 1 group. You use your 4GB through the 'Zone 1' per month.

  • +2

After 12 months does price stay the same or go back up to non promo price?

    • +5

The plan terms is minimum 12 months so you can just change to another plan with at the end of the discount period.

This is ideal timing for me as I am about to travel overseas and means I can avoid having to pick up a travel sim.

      Thanks OP!

I signed up for this plan last month and the contract I signed was for 12 months, but 24 months of this pricing.

So, after the 12 months you get to keep that plan for at least another 12 months without having to recontract.

      • +3

Just recontracted to this plan. My contract also says 12month sim only plan and 20% discount for 24months.

I remember a couple years back when $40 could only get you 15GB…

    • +3

A year before that and it was 5GB lol

      • and before that it was 2GB.

    • About a decade ago I was stoked when I managed to grab a double data deal giving me 6GB for $130….

  • Can I have additional $10 discount if I have already had a data only plan?

    • did you find out any more on this? My current plan has it so not sure if change is worth it. Optus store wasnt sure?

      • no :( I haven't got any update

  • +1

Would get this but they dropped Philippines off the list of countries does anyone know why.

    • the link says philipines are in zone 1.

      • Funny. Philippines are in the 'roaming' part of the deal but not the unlimited calls part. Go figure.

        • agree, more confusion? probably deliberate by Optus!

          • +4

@sachz: LOL i got on optus chat and as crazy as it sounds i can make free calls to Australia from the Philippines but not from Australia to the Philippines WTF.

    • +2

because it brought on the feelipines

Flybuys members remember to check your email/junk mail box for an Optus deal.

Clicking through that and signing up to this plan would get you 12,000 bonus points = $60 coles dollars.

    • Perfect, thanks! Just signed up this way.

      • +1

Are you a new customer or existing one??
the flybuys link doesnt seem to mention current recontacting customers?

        • Would also like to know… Am currently existing customer

        • Was on optus prepaid for 2 months and now switched back to postpaid via this link.

You can always port out to a cheap prepaid for a few days and sign up again via your flybuys link.

Expires end of May so be quick!

        • Wouldnt port out and back in be a way to get around this existing customer constraint?

    • Can you choose a number from a list or some sort of combination or you get allocated one at random for new signups?

    • can you please post the flybuys link? I'm a member but I haven't received such an email

  • +3

FYI They have definitely extended the zone 1 list from a year or 2 ago. It covers a lot of countries now. Makes this deal very worthwhile.

    • +1

whats to stop them reducing the zone 1 countries in a few months, after we've signed up?

there are some eastern europe countries which have found their way into zone 1 and could be the main reason people sign up, but then to lose it could be a deal breaker!?

      • Signed up a couple of years ago when Netherlands was on the included list.
It’s now been removed so stuck in a dilemma of staying on $40/30GB with it included or upgrading to $40/80GB without it included.

Phoning back to Holland is handy for contacting elder family members who don’t use data calls or banks etc to sort out things back there.

Wish they kept it as part of their included countries.

        • +4

this is why im still with VIRGIN MOBILE…. ALL countries included, period.

now i know why owners Optus wanted to destroy their virgin brand. :(

          • +1

            @sachz: Optus own virgin?

          • @sachz: I was sticking with Virgin too for only that reason. Now moved to TPG. They suck but about the only provider that include all countries besides Virgin.

            • -1

@Save 50 Cent: Why don't you ask use Whatsapp for those international calls?

            • @Save 50 Cent: Can you point me to the relevant TPG plan? I can’t find it…

This will be hugely useful to me. I travel a heap, and am currently based in Singapore, but still running my Aust number. So it will save me $$$$$

              Thanks a heap

              • @dwarves: I was only comparing my tpg plan to virgin plans which include minutes to all countries in the world but not roaming. Sorry slightly off topic and has nothing to do with this optus deal.

    • -2

Still lots of European countries missing. Given there are no roaming fees in Europe I don't get why all of Europe s not included

      • -1

Literally every European country is in Zone 1:

        https://www.optus.com.au/shop/mobilephones/international-roa…

        • -1

Check your facts before down voting . Plan details state UNLIMITED STANDARD INTERNATIONAL TALK & TEXT From Australia to 35 selected countries.

A few European countries not included: Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg…

          Included countries:
          Brazil
          Brunei
          Cambodia
          Canada

          • +1

@WaKkO1: I am pretty sure he was talking about the 4GB included roaming data not the calls to selected countries

            • @Quantumcat: Isnt the roaming based off zone 1 countries e.g. same european countries list as provided for call and text? I only ask as i needed scandinavia for next feb/ march.

              • @SaberX: It says the roaming is in Zone 1 countries and the free calls are to 35 selected countries. Seems a safe bet that these are different lists.

  • Can someone remind me, how can I share the 80GB With another device? Have to buy extra Sim I assume? what is the minimum cost to get and run one of those Sims? Thank you for your help.

    • Via hotspot?

    • The data sharing is beneficial (in my opinion) when you have more than 1 service on the same account. For example….

Family of 4 each has this offer, i would pay $160 per month and have 320gig of shareable data between us all. Then, if i have a wireless internet connection with Optus…say the $65 per month for 200 gig, i would be paying $225 per month for 520 gig….which isnt a bad deal, especially if your near a Optus tower to get the full 4G speed.

If its you and you alone, you will need to buy a data share sim and a mobile hotspot device.

      https://www.optus.com.au/shop/broadband/mobile-broadband/dat…

      Hope this helps.

      • Huh? I just use my phone as a hotspot then use a secondary phone that has no SIM in it to connect to the hotspot. Can do the same with my laptop and xbox? Or am I not understanding the original question properly? lol

        • +1

I think the point of mobile data sharing is that 2 separate mobile devices on the one family account can pool the data quota, i.e. they don't have to be in the same location at the same time to share this data. With your example you have to be within WiFi range of the other device.

      • You also get $10 off on your broadband if you also have a phone connection, which is what I get on my wireless BB connection. So the bill would be $215 for your example.;)

        • wouldn't happen to work if you have a tablet plan? or is it broadband and mobile bundle?

        • Is it for wireless broadband or just mobile broadband?

  • +1

can some1 explain this to me fully:

Standard roaming calls and SMS for use while overseas(in Zone 1 countries) – Unlimited

does this mean if i go to a zone1 country, and there are a LOT of them, all of europe for instance….

does UNLIMITED mean i can use my phone just the same way i use it at home in SYD?

calling BACK home or calling LOCAL-IN-EUROPE = unlimited?

    confused.

    • yes, you can call zone 1 countries & back home, just remember with the 4gb roaming data once you go over its $1024 Per Gig or $1 per MB

      • +3

Usually Optus send you a text when you get close to going over your data limit but I have a feeling they will "forget" when you're roaming lol

        • Conveniently lol

        • +3

they do send texts but can be up to 48 hours delayed, but they dont clearly state its $1024 per gig if you go over, just something people need to keep in mind incase they think its the standard $10 per gig like in aus, can see alot of people getting screwed by this, top deal otherwise

    • Me too confused

    • +1

What I tried (in Spain Zone 1) are:

      call and text numbers in Spain;

      call numbers in Australia;

call numbers in China (35 selected countries).

Catch: haven't received my optus bill yet :(

      • +1

only catch is, family in SPAIN when ur sitting next to them, will have to call AUSTRALIA to reach you - not good :(

this is where local spanish-SIM works better, no?!

  • This plan return for the third time in just two weeks.

    • +1

      got to love competition.

Optus need to be careful showing a save message, as i believe the "establishment period" for the old pricing needs to be met….as per ACCC guidelines.

  • Brb cancelling my home internet

    • +1

I'd love to do this but what do you do for streaming to chromecast/apple tv etc? Or you don't use them.

This is the only reason why I have a home internet connection and my plex media server

      • I don't use them haha
