  • St George has a similar offer but it's an inferior product. It doesn't even support contactless payments.

    • +2

I agree that it's an inferior product. Lack of NPP (PayID and Osko). But I have a debit card from St. George and it does support contactless payments. No Google pay or Apple Pay though.

      • +1

Yep sorry that's what I meant by contactless payments. No support for anything other than the the debit card.

        • Perfectly secure for my parents, who can't use any contactless payment but the one with debit card itself

      • Thanks for letting us know that, cheers

There is a monthly fee unless you deposit $2000 monthly, be wary.

    • Can you withdraw $2000 and deposit $2000 every month?

  • +3

Why so little upvotes, people don't like $50 anymore?

    • These recent bank deals at great. Not like the ING and ME bank deals of old. But my house will still be a few $100 up, for nothing, in the next month from CUA, Bank of Melbourne and this one.

      • I got cua too. BOM I can't because I got st George recently.

  • i got the $50 bonus from a previous promotion. my experience: westpac is a woeful bank. you have to go into a branch to supply your tfn (you can't do it online). their internet banking system is not very good.

    • Re: tfn, I thought that was annoying as well.

Went into online chat to complain and they lodged it for me over the chat….yet I couldn't do it myself via their (presumably somewhat secure) online banking? Wtf?

  • Can anyone confirm if I am eligible for this if I have opened a at George freedom account for the bonus $50?

    • -2

How can we know? We don't work for Westpac or st George. Call them and ask.

    • +1

I've taken up both promotions and received $50 from Westpac and $50 from St. George. You shouldn't face any issues.

      • Is it easy to close account?

        • Closing the St. George account was easy. I just had to call and let them know I want to close my account.
Westpac on the other hand asked me to visit a branch to close the account. I was told since the account was my last with Westpac, I needed to visit a branch to close it.
Once I was in the branch, I just needed my id and Westpac debit card and they were able to verify and close my account.

          • @masaladosa: does the eligible purchases including contactless payments?

            • @Minnie: ok - confirmed with Westpac, it does :)

  • For anyone who applied this, do they receive anything from email about their application? or got the account approved instantly online?

    • Instantly appears in the app.

      • I see, thank you @Jxdos. I applied it this morning via computer, but only got their email now. Does anyone know if the deposit of $2K need to stay in the account to waive the $5 monthly fee?

        • +2

Leave the money in the account for a day before removing the money. That should be enough to waive the $5 account keeping fee.

          • @masaladosa: why does it need to stay there for a day is it part of the t/c? i would transfer straight out on the same day into an account that earns interest.

  • +1

If you have Westpac account already, applying this is just like 1 min or less. Via app.

  • just leaving note here:
Eligible customers will receive $50 deposited into their account (or if an eligible customer is also eligible for the bonus $10, $60 deposited into their account) within 60 days of account opening following successful identification verification.

  • weird, just applied and got confirmation email with bank details,

tried to transfer $2k in, and it came with invalid BSB

for the record my bsbs for westpac choice and the other one is 1 digit different,

    a typo????

    • +1

on my welcome email, BSB is
      732075

      • my one is this

        Account type:

        Westpac Choice
        BSB:

        735102

        Account type:

        Westpac Life
        BSB:

        035102

        • +1

Westpac savings accounts and Westpac transaction accounts always have different BSBs. My Choice account has a BSB starting with 732 and my eSaver account has a BSB starting with 032.

    Anyone received the $50 yet?

    • +1

Nope. Have the feeling they aren't as diligent as some other banks on these promises

  • I have a Credit Card with them from the last $200 offer, was going to cancel but decided to get extra $60 as pretty easy to register it now. What is this life account that came with the choice account?

  • The offer has re run expires 9th Oct, no paywear $10 thou

  • Received $60 just now. Check your account, guys and girls!
