The HP 250 G-Series has been one of my go to machines
Currently found the HP 250 G6 i3 Model for under $500

Windows 10 Home
Intel 6th Generation i3 CPU
15.6” WLED screen
Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi and LAN connectivity
4GB RAM
500GB SATA HDD

Purchase on of these machines and put in a 240GB SSD or 480, and you will have a decent laptop for most people for under $500!
Dont bother using it with the standard 500GB that it comes with

  a lot of investment needed to make this a usable machine. SSD, RAM, higher resolution screen. this is not money well spent.

  Appalling value for money, laptop build is the same as their ~$300 Celeron one (incredibly cheap), horrible glow on the low res screen, and looking at ~$500 after adding an SSD, nothing special.

  Nah, brought a refurbished Dell with same specs with 8GB Ram, and a dedicated Nvidia graphics card, 3yrs ago for $40 more.

  If this is your "go to machines" then you have my sympathies.

  Yeesh.

  The $749 Lenovo e485 I bought a while back whips this to hell and back. I get that its 50% more expensive. Its worth it.
