Unlimited Usenet US$40 (~AUD$57) for 18 months @ NewsDemon

170

Unlimited Usenet for what works out to be $3.15 per month ($40USD per 18 months).
The other deals on are not really a bargain, but the 18 month pricing is better than most provider's Black Friday deals.

Just to clarify - it is $US40 - should be reflected in the title as such. Still a very good deal!

  • I'm a complete noob when it comes to usenet but 1TB block for $8, 500GB block for $3. So the 500GB is better value?

    • Last time I made this mistake — I can't see it now, but last time the 500GB was a monthly plan. Maybe they've changed it

So even after googling what Usenet is I’m none the wiser…

what we had before facebook to chat/post on topics of interest! Though i'm not sure that was much of an improvement

Seriously, why does this have to be asked every Usenet deal??

tl;dr: The internet before the internet existed.

Usenet resembles a bulletin board system (BBS) in many respects, and is the precursor to the various Internet forums that are widely used today. Usenet can be superficially regarded as a hybrid between email and web forums. Discussions are threaded, with modern news reader software, as with web forums and BBSes, though posts are stored on the server sequentially.

One notable difference between a BBS or web forum and Usenet is the absence of a central server and dedicated administrator. Usenet is distributed among a large, constantly changing conglomeration of servers that store and forward messages to one another in so-called news feeds. Individual users may read messages from and post messages to a local server operated by a commercial usenet provider, their Internet service provider, university, or employer.

the youth of today do not know the joys of calling multiple bbs's a day or someone picking up the extension while connected to one!

Do any serious numbers of people still use Usenet for discussions rather than just pirating video and software?

A 500GB block here for $3 would last a hundred lifetimes for discussions.

        • +2

Since its the only allowed place to discuss it we really need those gigs for discussion

          • +1

@thelastnoob: They must be encouraging Game of Thrones "discussions", with their "THE WINTER IS OVER SPECIAL".

  • Is newsdemon its on server or just a reseller?

  • VPN included frer with $40 plan it says.

Is a reseller running on the HW Media backend. If you use Ninja (my preferred), or Newshosting you're getting the same deal already.
