510

A great price for one of the all-time classic and great games.

Note: Despite what the Fanatical site states this game is for (and works on) both WINDOWS and MAC.
It has been verified working fine on Windows.

Nothing really needs to be said about this game but here is some info anyway:

From the website:

From Mayoral duties to God-like powers!

    Operating system: Mac ?

      • What does the Steam link have to do with the deal link? The deal link states requirements only for Mac, so like clokeyyy I'm scratching my head about purchasing as appears to be some Mac specific key or whatever.

        • The game is for both Windows and Mac.
The key will activate the game on Steam and then you can download any version available there.
Hence the Steam link showing both systems.
Plus, if it was only for one OS I would have spevified that.

  • Purchased. Thanks OP. Will be good to introduce to my 10 year old son.

    • Great. I hope your son will enjoy it but I am sure he will as it is fun and easily accessible. Plus there are lots of mods.
Good for you too as you won't have to buy lots of extra DLC to make the game complete.

    • +1

You really shouldn't introduce your 10 yr old to people from the internet

      • +2

Lol.. Just introducing game to my kid as it will be good for him to learn what all it takes to run a city.

Anyone who buys this definitely needs to check out the NAM mod. It fixes a bunch of issues, improves the simulation of traffic, as well as adding a bunch of new transport items and options.

    • I don't wanna go back to NAM …

Better off buying Cities: Skylines to be honest… far better game.

    • Ha,ha,ha.
Lots and lots of people think otherwise.

      • +1

Maybe I'm too simple but I found Cities Skylines to be a bit too overly complicated to be enjoyable in short bursts in the way that Simcity is.

        • You are not too simple - you are right.

      • +1

Lots and lots of people think otherwise.

        proof?

        • GFIY

          • @Lysander:

            GFIY

Is it an animated GFIY ?

            • @jv: Go and bother someone else. Not interested.

              • -1

@Lysander: I'm not the one making unsubstantiated claims…

    • But most Macs can't run Cities Skylines. I have the top of the line 2018 13" MBP and it struggles to run a tiny town at 20fps on low settings…

    • Agreed. No need for fanboism.

Been a fan of all the SimCities and still love all of them however once you've played Cities Skylines it's really hard to go back to the archaic and unpolished SimCity.

SimCity requires extra unnecessary tinkering to get things done whereas the modern competitor is more intuitive which is to be expected given tech advances over the years.

I have both games but would never choose to play SimCity 4 again unless feeling nostalgic.

  • +1

will this even run on windows 10?

    • Yes. Plus there are plenty of mods that should also work with it.
Maybe check forums on Steam for it, too.

      • +1

Just that the link to Fanatical states Operating System: Mac with only Mac OS requirements - no Windows listed.

        • +1

I bought this the other day and didnt realise it was for MAC only…. downloaded and wouldnt actually start on my PC. Did some digging and realised why it didnt work…

          • @Xany84: Thanks👍 You saved me the price & frustration of a failed purchase!
Decided to wait until this was confirmed.

        • +1

That might be a typo - it's a Steam key, and the SC4 Steam page lists Windows and Mac specs.

@Xany84: are you SURE your download didn't work because Steam gave you the Mac executables?? This is an old game, there are apparently a myriad of reasons for it to be incompatible and require some tweaks to run. I didn't think it was possible for Steam to mix up their downloads!

          • +1

@Switchblade88: Downloading again now, will post with results soon :)

          • +1

@Switchblade88: Seems I have to apologise, steam did give me the windows version, I had to tweak the graphics settings though quite a bit to get it to work properly.

            • +1

@Xany84: No worries. Glad you got it to work.
Only a bit disappointed that the mod so eagerly changed the OS in title (now changed back) without checking first but all good now. Hope you have lots of fun with the game.

            • @Xany84: Thanks for confirming works on PC.
First purchase from Fanatical. Confusing how they stated Mac OS required.
              Bought. Works fine.
              Upvoted Deal👍

    Me: about to buy

    Me: checks steam

    Steam: has sim city 4

    Me: phew

  • Is this always online to play still?

    • Wrong version.

    • +1

No. You are thinking of a different version.

  • how long does it take to get the key? mine is still pending after a day?

  • Doesn’t seem expired, even though the countdown on the product page is gone.

    • +1

It is still available but now costs $6.74 AUD. So the deal for $2.69 AUD as stated in title has expired.
If you reported it, maybe undo the report as the expiry is absolutely correct.

      • It was still $2.69 when I commented and reported.

        • +1

I am sorry but you must have looked at a cached site. When I expired it (which was before you commented), I checked and refreshed on two different browsers and a mobile - it was all at the higher, different price.

          • @Lysander: I tried as much as I could to refresh it properly : ) Was still showing 90% off, but yeah, it's obv over now. Thank you!

  • This price looks well
