Free 30min Online First Aid Refresher Course with St John Ambulance

540

"Clicktosave" online course refresher.

OK, so it's not a hands on full course, but its a decent refresher to keep you up to speed with the continuous changes in DR ABCD (i.e. the new rules). Who knows, it might help you save a life one day.

Note: you have to register first if you don't already have login details.

Just finished it, thanks for the heads up :)

On a side note, i thought i heard elsewhere that the breathing part was not absolutely necessary as the blood should contain enough oxygen until the ambulance arrives, so all you need to do is the cardio compression part. I personally think I would hesitate giving breath to a stranger who had just had vomit removed from their mouth. I mean who knows what the cause of it is, perhaps even poison. :S

    • In america they have removed the breathing component completely from first aid courses, they advise people not to do it (first aid instructor told me when I did my course). She also indicated that it will eventually change here too.

You're pretty much on the right track about compressions only CPR and ILCOR (international committee on CPR) may be changing guidelines for lay person CPR to reflect this very soon. Just remember: Hard, fast, no stopping.

From an assignment I did using a study by Nichol: In a meta-analysis study of 33,000 OHCA patients, use of bystander CPR and shorter defibrillation interval were associated with significant increases in survival at hospital discharge.

  • they should give these out for free!! doing the test is a hassle!

    • You'll have clueless certified bystanders who don't know how to perform CPR…
