  • I wonder what the RMS power is…

    • -1

      Hi Seb,
The supplied peak RMS power is 200W

      • +1

Peak and RMS are completely different.

    • +1

When it's not listed, you don't even bother looking at it.

Companies that can't list actual specs are misleading at best.

      • Peak RMS is included in description '200W'. We have now specified this in the spec section

        • +1

          That's a new one, what's next, Peak RMS 200W PMPO ;)
Suggest you look up the difference between RMS and PMPO.
          Peak RMS is an oxymoron.

            • @CGB Solutions: Quoting a website with misleading claims does not make you (or it) correct ;)

                @gunslinger: Hi there,
Let's just clarify before this thread spirals,
We are simply trying to clarify information regarding your questions
We aren't preaching and saying it's right.
Your buying choices are completely up to you.
To make a buying choice you should conduct some of your own research if you aren't certain.
Altec Lansing is a reputable brand, hence why we stock and sell it.

                • @CGB Solutions: Not saying they aren't a reputable brand.

But the figures they quote are misleading and deceptive, at best.

                • @CGB Solutions: Taking a reasonable approach, how annoying, well done :)
Personally, I'd remove the misleading claim from your page, not sure exactly why you're quoting bestbuy, the AL site states 200W peak, nothing on RMS.
                  Good luck :)

                  • @gunslinger: Thank you for your feedback and we'll take this into account

      • +1

there's only peak power listed on official specs. high quality speakers can be 2:1 peak:RMS power, the lesser ones are worse for example 4:1, thus one can conservatively guess 200W peak : 50W RMS.

    • You could look it up…

      • +1

Hehe, the point is it is not listed on the seller's website nor on Altec Lansing's websites.

Depending on how a manufacturer defines "peak", RMS could be 1/2 or as low as 1/5 (or even lower). AL is an established reputable brand so it should be 1/2 but this product is competing in a space filled with marketing claims so the fact that RMS power is not listed leads to caution.

        • Can be even worse, how often have I seen Computer Speakers rated at 2000w!!!

And more so with RMS ratings, it's what comes after that matters too…. if it's at 1khz at 10% THD you may as well just laugh.

  • I was really bored and ended up researching this thing for a decent amount of time. Here are my findings:
    1. The RMS is definitely below 100W. Close to 60W I would say.
    2. Mixed reviews on this model. Either it broke after a short amount of time or customers were not satisified with the sound quality.
    3. Big brother of this, the ALP XP800 seems to be the better choice if you wanna spend more. Apparently that one is way better than the sony ones (compared to XB7). Louder, deeper bass and it floats on water.

    • We are planning to have a sale on the xpedition 8 which was highly popular last time we did so keep a look out for that
