Big W are closing down their optical dept on 30th June.
Not advertised, but this weekend they are discounting their frames by 75%.
They won't have soon.

The BigW optical department is a joke.
While they advertised the prescription glasses as low as 80 or something as a full set,I brought a prescription glasses trying to get a quote for the lens replacement. It was just a ordinary frame nothing fancy and my prescriptions is not over the top.
The optometrist quoted me 300aud
Don't they all do that ?, my two pairs for $299 from Specsavers , ended up being about $700 all up with multi focal lenses ect.
What does this mean exactly, I can pick up cheap frames only and have to take them somewhere else (eg specsavers) to put my lenses in? Or just the frames are clearance but Big W will still put my lenses in at full price? How much do they charge for that?
The discount is on the frames only , they also supply lenses , but there is no discount on them .
I would assume that Big W have a 3rd party company do their lenses for them , so the sale on frames would be to get rid of their current store stock.
Thanks heaps. I looked on the site more after my original comment and they have a complete price listing of their lenses if anybody else wants to know. It didn't look too bad to me, esp with 75% off the frame. Might book a new eye test and check it out on weekend.
frames are at least 1000% markup, so pick up some better rip-offs.
plus if you bring your own frame, you wont saving much with private health
Be aware they are completely getting out if the optical game so don't count on there being any kind of warranty on these jobs
Big W as a company still exists , so why would't you still have all your normal ACCC rights regarding warranty.
My son works for Big W vision and says there will be Raybans frames etc from $30 and 50% off sunnies.
I guess in the coming months we’ll be getting more and more Big W closure announcements…

I’ve chosen a pair of Esprit and Ralph is it good value at $250 for both ? That’s with lens including anti reflective
I picked 2 pairs and got high index, multicoat (anti reflective) and photochromatic. One came in at $280 and the other $290.
The anti reflective coating cost more than the frames!!!!!
Just bought 2 pairs of prescription glasses only $109! Ray Ban and Armani Exchange usually about over $500! Free single focus lens. Crazy deal go in store now!
