Just starting to research for a new amp, but thinking 5.1.4. Coming from a Denon I wasn't really happy with but open to suggestions.

    • The Onkyo TX-RZ1100 can do up to 5.2.4 so this would be a great fit for what you're after. It's 200 watts per channel and THX certified, and has all the latest features when you update the firmware on it. Incredible sound quality and a solid amount of power.
We currently have this priced at $2,299 (RRP $3,999) if you're interested!

That's a whole lot more than my budget but good to know. Thanks

      • Wow, that is way more than the top Yamaha, and even the Yamaha RX V-2085 can do 5.2.4.

        • Thanks, this is helpful to. Maybe I'll just stick to 5.1.2 if it saves on the amp.

A new house build so time to put the ceiling speakers in is now

          • @kulprit: I imported a Pioneer VSX-LX503 from Amazon US for just over $1200 AUD (after shipping and GST) - but I already have a huge step-down transformer. Here they seem to go for $2000 but who knows maybe you could find a deal somewhere (since OP is offering you an Onkyo which with $4kRRP for $2.2k) - I do love it very much and recommend it. It does 5.2.4 natively, but it has pre-outs for 7.2.4 and I use my old amp for the other two channels. Instructions are very clear on how to do this and it all sounds amazing.

  • I'm a bit confused if this can support 5 speakers all at 8ohms? Have a B&W 600 series setup so pretty power hungry.

    • This unit can definitely drive your speakers. The 165W is measured at 6ohms so you'll probably get around 120W per channel with an 8ohm speaker.

      • Thanks for clarifying. So 684 and HTM61 should be fine? Wasn't any clear documention on 8ohms in the manual. Cheers

        • Yep this is perfect for those! Recommended amp power is 30W to 150W @ 8ohms for those speakers so you'll have no problem running them with this amplifier :)

          • @FunkyDan: Awesome, I'll drop in a pre-order. Warranty claims can be brought to your physical stores for drop off?

            • @monkeynews: Great! Yep we can handle all warranty claims for you in store :)

      • Do these also do AirPlay 2 or just the original?
        Thanks

        • Currently it only supports the original Airplay however there is a firmware update that should be released fairly soon within the next few months that will add the support of Airplay 2 to this particular model and a few others in the Onkyo range :)

        • AirPlay 2 firmware available for US and should be here soon.

  • Capable of bi? Or bi capable?

    • According to Onkyo website: Support for front L/R bi-amping in a 5.2-channel speaker layout :)

  • Does the volume OSD work even when it's displaying HDR content? My old Pioneer doesn't.

LIAR!! Your last price here on Ozbargain was $999. So how does your claim work?

It appears the street price has been under $1000.

    • Please do not call us liars. The last price we had this receiver listed at was $1,399. If you could please show me where you saw our last listed price for the Onkyo TX-NR686 as $999 I would love to see that and see how long ago it was. The price for this unit was at $1,399 prior to about 12pm today when we reduced it to $799.

      • Sorry, it was the TX-RZ720, which you apparently still have at $999. Is that an older higher model?
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/450555

Still doesn't change the fact that the normal street price seems to be under $1000.

  • nice price, i use to be onkyo fan until i got Denon. I prefer the denon now also Onkyo aren't very good and keeping old Receiver firmware up to date. My 2011 model denon got firmware update couple months ago because of spotify. My Dad Onkyo NR1010 cant use spotify any more as onkyo hasnt updated firmware in years.

  • I'm looking to buy a receiver that's good for stereo music listening as well as movies. Would the RZ-810 you have for sale be a step up in that department?

    • The RZ810 is an absolutely awesome amp and our price is great value at $1499… we have a couple left brand new and for audio it's a warm high current sound for 2ch

    • Yes, you're definitely looking at a step up with the RZ810 in terms of sound quality. The RZ series in the Onkyo range are built with higher quality components and will outperform the other models in their complete range when it comes to sound quality.

  • Compared to the TX-NR686, the back panel of the new TX-NR696 looks kind of sparse.

  • I heard that this model won't be getting EARC firmware update.. Will the newer 696 have it?

    • According to the Onkyo website they have listed the models that will have eARC firmware update. Haven't found anything regarding the 696 aside from this article which gives you a list of features that will be available with that model, but no mention of eARC

  • Thanks FunkyDan. Bought one. Any idea why I was forced to give a Company Name? I just put “No Company” in the Billing details.

    • You're welcome!

Unfortunately the way our system is set up it does require all fields to be completed but what you have provided is sufficient enough :)

  • Just curious if you're having another sale… didn't see this thread until last Monday.

    • Give us a call at (03)94169943 and we may be able to work out a price for you if you're interested :)

  • Still waiting on confirmation of dispatch, when are these being shipped? Ordered mine on the 2nd May.

    • There was a slight delay with the arrival of the stock however they've just arrived today so we've got our team working overtime to get these all ready to send out tomorrow. Sorry for the delay!
