  • would be interested to know what people think about these headphones.. =)

Not the same model, but there's also these Philips wireless headphones which you can get for $59.99 (plus del) after using one of the Staples discount codes…

    • actually its free delivery at staples for stuff over $55 :)

    • lol, thats pretty cool too! for $60… decisions decisions.

I had an earlier model, philips, there was always a hiss. Even when standing next to the antenna. Quite painful at silent points in a song.

I bought from a physical store, so I returned them (I was very lucky and they legitimately broke within a few hours). I'd hesitate to buy online. At least in a physical store you can argue if they don't work as advertised.

You can purchase from DSE online and then take it back to a DSE physical store if you need to.

    • A low level background hiss is part and parcel of wireless headphones in my experience.

For me the convenience of wireless far outweighs this.

  • I bought the Philips one (not same model, but very similar specs) for my dad a couple of years ago for $99. I also bought a Tevion one from Aldi for $50 for myself.

The key issue for me was the weight of the headphones. Due to the batteries being inside the headphone, it was very uncomfortable - was ok for the first 30 minutes, but after that, it just started to weigh on the ears.

Also, it is a bit fiddly if you want to listen to different devices in different rooms. My dad had his TV in the lounge, and the music system in the bedroom, and it was a constant struggle having to disconnect the base and plugs and replug the power and cable in the other room. Of course, that should not be an issue if you have all your devices in one location.

There were a couple of other minor annoyances - managing 2 sets of volume control (TV and headset), the batteries moving around and disconnecting if the headset fell down etc…

If you want to try the concept, Reject Shop used to have an el cheapo version for $20. You can try it and return it if it doesn't work for you. Link to the old Reject shop deal - not sure if they carry the line anymore… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/19962

  • Simply overpriced

    • So it's simply overpriced as opposed to technically overpriced?

  • I'm sensing that you feel this is not at the right price point kluger?

    • +2

For those wondering what kirt is talking about, kluger had 11 of those comments before I unpublished them

      • Bloody censorship…it's a conspiracy I tells ya!!! :p

        .

  • The Creative ones for $99 would be a better deal than these, yeah?

  • Bought 2 Philips units in the past, not this unit. Mine is a SBC-HC8395. Both good with clear signal. Allows me 2 move around with minimal distortion. 1 set ended up with father. The only Unit that I have heard that is/was better are the Bose, @ like twice the price. I use mine regularly and enjoy them.

    ?????????

  • I don't understand all the negative attention this post is getting, $100 off and free delivery seems like a pretty good deal to me.

    • I guess for me it's like "if something that is shitty has a 50% discount, does that make it less shitty?".

Not saying these headphones are shitty, but it is still $150 on a relatively unknown product ; )

DSE's generous return policy does make it more attractive though…

  • Dick Smith website says:
The docking station provides convenient, tailor-made storage for your receiver when not in use, and on some models, it even takes care of battery charging.

Does that apply to this unit? Or do you have to plug it in?

  • You would be much much happier with these for $129 plus shipping;

This is by far the cheapest non Ebay price for these. Be wary when searching for these online, because a lot of people will sell you just the headphones with no base station for not much less than this.

I bought 2 pairs from this shop and use one downstairs and one upstairs, but you can tune them into the same channel if you want to use both pairs for the upstairs to watch the same show together. It's been really great to help us enjoy TV and not wake the kids. I can walk all through the house and up the yard and down to the road and still listen. They do hiss when they auto shutoff after 3mins of silence, but I read that the auto shutoff is mandatory in Europe so you can't disable it - it's really a very minor thing.

Or you can get them on Ebay for a little cheaper (this search has -extra to weed out the ones without the charger). As of this posting there was a new and near new pair for less than the set at the shop above.
