  • Why would it be needed to change Exif data for Instagram?

You betcha they’d be pulling data (more specifically location data) out of all uploaded images

First, Who is doing it and what would be the point of pulling data of millions of photos uploaded every day?
Second, there will be no location tag if it's turned off.

          Facebook which owns Instagram.

@cdaddy: That might or might not be true. But do u think these free apps don't use ur data and more private stuff at all?
There should be a cost for everything, either by paying or sharing ur data.

    • It's somewhat common practice when exporting to web to strip location data from EXIF. I think if you're exporting to web through Lightroom it does this by default depending on the preset you select. I think there's genuine concern from some people that embedded GPS data could be used for doxxing purposes or for creeps to find out where you live. My DSLR doesn't support GPS, but pretty much all camera phones record location data in EXIF by default if location services is enabled.

I don't use Instagram, so I'm not sure if Instagram strips that info out from photos by default. When I used Flickr back in the day, it had an option to do this automatically in settings I think.

Really nifty app which I paid full price using Google Play Store credits. I combine it with Google's PhotoScan app to digitize old photos to be backed up to Google Photos. Useful as it allows multiple photos info to be edited.

This must be what was used to change the EXIF data on the image that was used by Canon, but was later discovered to have been shot on a Fujifilm camera.
