  • Native resolution is 720p?

  • Amazon reviewer suggests astroturfing cause the unit isn't that great but gets rave reviews.

I want it. But I think it might suck.

    • +1

I have one. My only real complaint is it's not super bright and needs a dark room. Just projecting it on a wall though, so maybe it would be better with a screen, although I doubt it would improve it enough to use it in a non-darkened room.

Still, for the price i'm pretty happy - we really only got this for "special occasion" kind of stuff (kids birthdays etc), so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

    • The reviewer that suggests astroturfing has in fact left a positively worded review of a projector at its price, but low stars. They insinuate it’s a projector with flaws (it’s cheap) and appropriate for just projecting and the odd film…
Meanwhile the ‘paid ads’ have photos, long description of the projectors use, and many more of this. Amazon.ca has similar positive reviews. I am inclined to believe the negative review is someone expecting an $800 projector at a $200-140 price point…

      • +2

No, i agree with fake reviews.

Thats not to say that I dont also agree with you; it looks VERY good for the price. Im no noob to cheap LCD projectors, so the reviews are all entirely possible.

But the paid for element stands out.
When you 'buy reviews' you get to suggest how you want them to sound.

Notice the common theme of "breathtaking" and "change your life" in a lot of them?

Seems like the company only gave the reviewers a few terms to pick from.

Still a quality projector for the cash, but a 720p projector, which is lcd (so likely slightly misaligned, and certainly colour weak, just how LCD porjectors are) has never been life changing.

        Ill probably buy one.
But that doesnt stop the reviews looking fake.

        • +3

Yep, those are 100% fake reviews. Experienced projector owners will only be merely satisfied, not 'life-changed'. First time projector owners will almost definitely get very disappointed unless they got in with a ton of research before.

I got this the last deal, left a pretty moderate review but gave them 5/5 because, and i talked about it in the review, of the value.
Anyway it's pushed to the bottom because this thing didn't CHANGE MY LIFE!!1!

Also, it's 1000000% not 3400 lumens. It's in the 200-400 range for ANSI lumens. I suspect those more mellow reviews that talk about how bright it is are also paid.

          • @xrailgun: Thanks for these responses! I think I am going to give it a miss. The 3400 lumens claim seemed super dubious and that seems to be the case. Paid reviews and dodgy sellers should not be rewarded for their efforts either.

            • +1

@krunchymoses: welcome! to be fair, I don't think there is any better value until you go for the USD$500 Optoma HD143X.

other chinese brands lie just as much, if not more, and the real native 1080p models tend to creep a little too high up in price but without the real brightness and color vibrancy, and in those cases you might as well save a bit more for the optoma

              • @xrailgun: That looks like a very decent unit. I'm gonna get a new lamp in my old projector and see how that goes. If that all falls flat, I might look into that one.

  • Wonder if any good to take camping lol

    • +1

I have one of those 480p LED projectors, available on ebay.

      They're always between 50 and 70 bucks.

Since camping is dark, its always been super fun.

480p isnt so bad as long as you're below about 75inch; at least, not for $50, and running off a battery.

I imagine this one would be pretty good.

  • How can they claim 3400 lumens when you need near pitch blackness to use it

  • +1

Actually have one of these, don’t think it was from this seller. Use it for movie nights in the backyard and works surprisingly well. You do have to wait for it to be fairly dark, but add some speakers and it’s good for a temporary set up.

Paid around $180 back in November-ish.

  • Thanks OP. I have been waiting for this deal again. It should be much better than my old 854 x 480 pixel projector in a dark room for driving sim.
Each pixel is huge on my wall atm and it's almost unplayable. At this price it's worth trying.

  • also it's 50 watts so highly likely its an LED, not a traditional 200 watt lamp, which explains the low brightness.

  • Hey OP, I'm thinking about getting this projector but mines not coming up as $139.99 at checkout? And the code doesn't seem to work either. Do I have to be a prime customer to get that price?
