$299 Delivered @Deniswhite (Brand new full warranty from different seller, limited quantity: 4 available at time of update).

Now I am aware of Graysonline’s reputation for ‘Brand New’ products.
The price is good though, so if you are willing to take the risk for the price.
As usual 1-year warranty from Grays.

Dali are a high-end Danish speaker manufacturer, I have never owned or listened to a pair of these Zensor’s so please do your own research regarding how they sound.
I imagine from the matching colours that the SUB E-9F (in this deal) is intended to accompany the Zensor 1’s.

Dali SUB E-9F is powered by 170watt RMS amp, down-ported with a 9-inch long-throw aluminium cone driver & has volume/cross-over adjustment/phase control (can be tuned to other speakers), auto-on/off function and LFE + RCA line input.

  • The soundproof design ideas of DALI

means these speakers will produce the absolute minimum amount of sound :-)

soundproof (adjective): preventing, or constructed of material that prevents, the passage of sound

    • Blood is thicker than water!

Quote from Zensor Vokal Centre description.

Also I am having this fantasy of two Zensor Vokal’s placed vertically and using them as stereo.

      • I also wondered how well this would work since the drivers are exactly the same in the Zensor 1 (one extra 5.25") but could not find much useful and consistent information on-line about how the orientation of the speakers would impact upon the sound. Do you have any thoughts or experiences?

        • +1

In theory, since the Dali Vokal centre uses dome tweeters without a significant wave-guide, the sound dispersion of the high frequencies should be similar in both orientations.
Typically you would place the tweeters at head / ear level and that is most ideal for typical bookshelf speakers with only 1x woofer.
So in a sense you will get similar dispersion of the highs, and may get better vertical dispersion of the mids and lows with a centre speaker in a vertical position (compared to a typical bookshelf design like the Zensor 1’s).
(Also worth noting you will experience a slight change in imaging and sound on the Vokal Centre’s with either the tweeters on the inside with ports out, or tweeters on the outside with ports in.)

The drivers are the same as the Zensor 1’s, but the Vokal Centre has a larger cabinet and different port frequency tuning, so it is able to extend to lower frequency (47hz) than the Zensor 1 (53hz).

          • @thebadmachine: Cheers, thank you. I felt that two Vokal centre speakers potentially had more to offer with the extra 5.25" but hesitated due to the lack of consensus on how the orientation would impact upon the sound so played it safe in the end due to the cost. I appreciate the reply.

            • +1

@lumiere: I failed to address your original question directly.
In theory, since the Vokal tweeter design is identical to that of the Zensor 1 & it disperses sound equally in all directions (up down left right) by being a typical dome tweeter. The Vokal Centre in either orientation should sound similar to the Zensor 1’s.
Now because the general design (number of woofers & cabinet) is slightly different you may experience a slightly different sound signature to the Zensor 1’s (although they would have been tuned to match to an extent, since they are from the same series).

Yeah going with the speakers for your use case is a safer bet, unless you are tolerant enough to experiment and appreciate a possibly more interesting sound.

  • not appealing for the price for a bookshelf…

Outclassed by the leader in 2015

    OUR VERDICT
Although outclassed, the Dalis are good all-rounders, and thoroughly entertaining

    FOR
    Lively, agile sound
    Musical
    Good rhythmic drive
    Open, spacious soundstage, balanced
    Decently detailed
    AGAINST
Not as dynamically subtle as class leaders

    • Yeah I guess they are having slow sales. Sound is subjective though, some people may have them as their preference.
Also if using them in a Home Theatre setup as surround speakers, I’m sure they will be more than adequate.

Also my guess is that they were designed as a cohesive package with the subwoofer, with the best sound when heard together (a subwoofer’s tuned low-end frequency response can affect how the mids and high’s sound from the main-speakers).

      • +1

Yep perfect for high end surrounds. That's really what they're meant for, or just casual stereo music. Zensor 3 is much better for stand alone bookshelf speakers.

        • Yeah low-end extension comes up a bit short for a 5.25-inch woofer, I think they made that decision so it would pair better with the SUB E-9F.
Still fine for stand-alone bookshelf use IMO.

    • In short, Q acoustics 2020i were better, Wharfedale Diamond 220 were even better again

      • +1

Wharfedale Diamond 220 are $405 and 2020i cant find available anywhere

        • Yeah, I didn't comment on pricing. All I was doing was saving people reading through the link.

2020i has been superseded by newer models.

  • Thanks mods for combining posts.

  • Anyone has experience with a dali sub before? Are they any good for double duty music and movies?

    • I would say the Long-throw woofer and ported design work against it being musical (I am fussy though, and it has been shown that ported designs can sound accurate).
Most people would be content with it for both music and movie use IMO. And 170watts RMS with the Long-throw woofer would give you the power and ‘punch’ you would expect when watching movies.

Disclaimer: I have never owned or heard the Dali E-9F.

    • It’s tempting but appears undersized (might be boomy) and appears to be made out of chipboard. You can’t really complain for $300 though.

      • Boominess usually depends more on subwoofer placement and port location/direction (the SUB E-9F having a down-firing port will likely have reduced boominess & any possible port noise at high volumes).
~30x30x30cm seems appropriately sized for a subwoofer.
Construction is solid MDF as are most subwoofers and speakers (MDF is known to be very dense and appropriate for use in audio).

Edit: I would also expect a certain standard (flat response/sound quality) of hi-fidelity (Hi-Fi) when it comes to Dali.

  • Dali good, Zensor good, GraysOnline not.

    • Agreed (about Grays). I’m sure there are some people who have been happy with their experience though (received a functioning seemingly-new product which lasted as long as they expected).

    • Some good advice may be to closely inspect products on arrival & break the speakers in and give them a good squeeze within a few months, to squeeze out any faults (then you can get your replacement or refund within 1 year warranty.)

  • Any comments on how these compares to the Voll B44's?

    • +1

I would consider the B44 as true entry-level passive small speakers. These may be a slight upgrade.

If going with Voll’s/Micca’s I would recommend the new & slightly more expensive Micca RB42 over the other offerings.
Disclaimer: the RB42’s are yet to be officially announced/sold in AU.

  • They have a Jamo sub for $207, just got one

  • Picked some of these up second hand to use as surrounds for my home theatre. They're great for the price.

  • I personally won't buy at Gays. I previously bought 6 sets of various speakers from them and 4 have issue suggestive of refurbished item but it was listed as new.

    • Hi please share the specific issues with speakers (cosmetic damage/component failure/performance issues). Thanks.

      • All due to component failure.

        • That’s a shame, even refurbished I thought is meant to have been checked/inspected with faulty components replaced (my expectations of refurbished).
After typing that I realised its Grays, so its done in house, as opposed to factory refurbished.
Hopefully the Dali’s really are Brand-new/sealed as Orelljet experienced.

  • +1

I bought the sub, the Zensor 1s and the centre speaker, in the last Grays/eBay sale. All brand new and sealed.

If it's the same stock, it's a bargain.

    • +1

Thanks for sharing. Good to hear.
Added deal for centre speaker to post.

  • I have the zensor 1s paired with an Yamaha NS SW200 sub….. To be honest, for the price they're excellent speakers which get very well reviewed.

I wanted good speakers, but I'm poor….these have been sensational.

They really do need a sub though.

Great for the price, but saying X,Y,Z are better…. please consider the price points in the reviews you are reading. These are excellent for the price. I use a set in my garage/home gym with a DIY sub and they are excellent.

    • These are excellent for the price.

      I think so too.
