Does this work with Home Assistant? Possible local API to control this on local network about the appp?

    • would like to know this too

    • I am not 100% sure, but fairly certain it can be used with tuya so you can use HA that way

    • +1

I believe it uses the Tuya/SmartLife API, so would just need to find the key. I've tried to do similar with the Kogan switches (same API), but didn't have a lot of luck getting anything more than the basic on/off functionality working.

OP - do you have a link to the description of the software it uses ?
(was planning to use it without any smart hub - just through our wifi network)
want to have a look to see if the functionality suits our needs.
    thanks

    • +1

it can use either ewelink or smart life app. it does not require a hub for operation, it uses Wifi

      • thanks for the feedback - can you confirm if I can install multiple smart sockets on the app and have them all on independent 7 day, 24 hr schedules (or even a 365 day schedule) coming on and off at different times?
(sorry am a newbie to smart sockets and home automation apps)

    • +1

It's WiFi (as listed in the description), so doesn't need a hub. App is also mentioned in the description: Smart Life.

      • +1

i get it now - it was not in capitals ie " Smart Life" - have not used any home automation - did not realise that that was the name of it ….
        thanks

        • thanks @trankillty for answering the response… too fast haha

  • Interested in buying this for my home theatre room (1 plug for the ceiling mounted projector & 1 plug for the media equipment such as PS3, Android TV box etc). Just curious to know how much power the plug itself would consume?

    • the amount of power draw it would use itself would be very minimal

      • Do you know how many watts the plug itself uses please? Just concerned as the USB ports are always powered on per the comments on here as well a review posted from a buyer on your Amazon listing.

        • i will ask a representative and let you know.

    • +1

It's WiFi so will use at least 2-3 more then zigbee or zwave plugs

  • Is the USB controlled by the smart plug or is always ON?

    • +1

Going by the following review, yes the USB is always on: https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/customer-reviews/R377I6XCGS3S3U…

    • yes the USB's are always powered on ,

      • +1

I agree, it would be awesome to be able to control the USB port(s) independently.
But even though the USB ports remain on, I don't see how this is using any more power… Unless there is something plugged into the USB port that is drawing power from the port there will not be any usage (or waste).

  • OP - are the USB ports impacted when turning off the plug, eg; if i have a lamp plugged into it and 2 charging cables, will just the lamp be turned off when using alexa/google home?

    Thanks

  • So these have been tested and approved for sale in Australia?

    • it has these Certificates:FCC,CE,ROHS

    • +2

No SSAA certification so no. still buying 2 though but just a heads up.

      • oh ok, thanks for the support!

  • I dont know much about stuff like this.
But.. If i dont have google or alexa.
Can i just turn stuff on and off from my phone when im out to the wifi in my house?

    • yes correct, you can control by your phone locally on your network or away from home as-well.

  • This one or the Bunnings one?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/426089

    • I am biased, but surely this one ;P
this one includes dual USB ports, is in a smaller form factor and even slightly cheaper

      • +2

No but the Bunnings ones are approved to be sold/used in Australia.

It is illegal to sell non-approved electrical equipment in Australia. People put there house at risk. If this device causes a fire, then your insurance will not cover you.

        • +1

Not our problem, unless you intend to resell.

        • Really?
I was just about to purchase this but if my home insurance doesn't cover it then it's a no go.
          Thanks for the heads up!

    • I have the Bunnings one, and so far no issues. It's at least certified, and is vertical so it doesn't block the plug next to it.

      • +1

UPDATE: according to rep, it is SAA Certified

    • In my opinion, always better to buy the one that's certified to be safe for retail sale in Australia.

  • Hi Op, code doesn't apply to twin pack?

    • Sorry, it doesn't apply to the twin pack..

  • Great price!! I got something similar last time.

    • aha thats awesome to hear!!

  • You aren't going to run an air conditioner of this plug

    • forgive for asking the obvious question…. why not?

      • Most will need 15amp plug

  • Got these, work fine with google home - USB is “always on”, but mains switch is wifi/button controlled.

Only gripe is that I wish they made the opposite sides plugs! (To suit certain room/PowerPoint setups!)

  • Kicking myself for missing this one. Hopefully another code turns up :).

    • Ahah im sure it won't be long ;)
