      • yes

    • +10

is that why they are called "down" jacket?

      • +1

lol thats a good one :)

    • but the sizing guide says:
If your measurements are in between those listed in the size chart, pick the next larger size.

  • Does anyone know how this compares to uniqlo down?

    • +7

this one is way better. I own both. MacPac keeps you warmer..

      • +2

They also don’t rip the down out of live ducks/geese which is a plus

        • +2

Do they gently pluck it off instead?

        • no they don't, just pour hot water over the duck and let them spin in plucking drum

      • Much warmer. To my mind, fits better, stitching is better as well

  • This or North face?

    • More than twice the price of this

  • +2

And only $40 less than last week’s ‘members’ sale

Remember to order a size down

  • +2

Awesome! I can look like a soccer mum for under $100!

  • how does this compare to its competitor kathamddu/?

    • +1

      no comparison..

      • +2

that is, this is superior to kathmandu

    • I also want to know

  • +1

I've used this in -20 degrees with good thermals and it just provides enough warmth.. didn't need to use my outside coat which costed $350.

    • Great! was planning on heading to south warf tomorrow anyway now I can try it on and get the right size.

      • was pushing it though, but -10 was perfectly fine

    • which good thermals? looking to get some for nz south island in winter (so like 0-8 degrees)

      • i've been very happy with the uniglo heat tech.

i had an extra which is 1.5 times the standard heat tech under a cheap jacket in japan when it got down to 0-3 deg and was warm enough - with a scarf and beanie.

their black tech gear is great for ausie winters. often if you can stop the wind getting through you're fairly warm, and a standard heat tech top underneath if it's below 10deg.

just got back from a trip in japan and the block tech chinos were great in the weather with wind chill taking 6 to 7 degree off say a 13 deg temp.

  • +4

This is the official Ozbargain winter top, pants are optional.

  • What is the saving over other deals?

  • +1

Got one last year, awesome jacket. Am 176cm and small is perfect so go a size down.

    • Really? Why is that - im 177 and a bit worried small will be too tight

      • -1

Go for M and then exchange. Or listen to people who have them..

        • Or explain why/where the problem with size occurs instead of being so cranky on a friday?

          • @Truthbe: Easiest way is to check your chest size and check the sizing on the website. You will find that the standard M is S for these jackets (allowing for base layers etc). My chest size is 100cm and I wear S.

      • Depends on your weight, weight distribution and what you plan on wearing underneath it. I think many people just wear a shirt under these but they are designed to have base and mid layers under which is why they run bigger.

        • This!

I’m 183cm and 70 kg and got an XS

    • I was thinking xs. Similar height as you and i just buy small normally. Tall skinny problems though, probably won't fit shoulders or arms?

    • +1

I'm 183 and medium seemed too big. Good thing I lent it to someone and it was lost.

  • Macpac Club price for hooded has gone up too! Previously it was $149, now it's gone up to $179!!

  • +2
  • Great

  • +1

In store the hooded one is $149. I just got one.
    New store in Preston VIC

    • Yep just got, 50% off Halo range. Got a small

    • hooded better than non hooded?

      • +1

Depends, the non hooded has a padded neck collar which is nice so good if you're going to wear in and around the city or urbun. The hooded is more versatile and will keep you warmer in colder weather for hiking or traveling. Both are the same otherwise, excellent quality and light

  • For a moment I thought I saw black idris… 😅

  • Is same price in store?

    • Yes. I saw the sign at the macpac store at townhall square.

      • then can i buy here and return in store?

  • What do you all recommend for a waterproof jacket to go over this?

    • Would you need one? I have a big overcoat but find I just overheat in both.

  • Off to Japan in a week, will be doing some hiking in the kiso valley where it's still pretty nippy so perfect timing.

Also just down the road from the only Brisbane shop with any stock so I stay winning!

  • anyone know if this is sale is on in store as well?

    Want to try the XS

    • would like to know too!

    • +2

Yeah in store too. They've had this sale on all week.

The quality of this jacket is low but better than Uniqlo quality($109.95) but not as good as Kathmandu($200)

Girlfriend and I ended up buying sundowners at $257 each. Fleece cuffs and just an overall much better quality product. More down, and no wrinkling which is caused by insufficient down.

If it were Uniqlo($109.95) vs Macpac($99) vs Aldi($79) I'd wait for aldi as the products are all comparable. You're looking at around 90g of down

      • Kathmandu has a sale at the moment. Selling down jackets for $129. Better deal?

        • The Kathmandu ones are $200 I think it's called epiq? They're down from $400

          • @[Deactivated]: Ah cool thanks. They have quite a few so wasn't sure which you were referring to.

      • I can vouch for the Sundowner too. I used it in -25 in Harbin, China with just a t-shirt and light thermal (150gsm merino) and was as warm as toast. The soft cuffs make it nicer to wear than the Halo, which I tried first. The Halo is good for a lightweight down jacket, but will struggle in very cold weather.

  • +1

Can you exchange in store if you get the size wrong?

    • If it doesn't fit, return it within 60 days, as long as it's unworn, unwashed and unaltered.

  • +2

Guys I already have the black one. Great investment for winter. Now looking to pick another one but want to go Spicy Orange. Never seen anyone wearing this one. Can anyone let me know if this color really looks gaudy? The name says, " Spicy Orange/Syra ". I don't want to be an eye sore to people lol.

    • +1

Lol just tried it on about an hour ago, I liked it and only decided for black because it goes with more clothes but the red orange was very nice and a little retro classy

    • You could also get Syrah with no Spicy Orange inserts instore

This jacket is not free for orders over $100 :(

I am using Macpac fleece of size S. After trying in store, Now bought this down jacket of size XS. So suggest everyone to try and buy.

Also jackets are compressed in a bag and stored. Plenty of wrinkles, hope they go away with time. Planning on tumble dry to bring back the loft.

Here is my jacket's down info.

  • Thanks. Went and got one in store. As others suggested, I went down one size after trying it on. Almost went down 2 although I'm not sure if come winter I'll have layers on or not and 'S' gave me a bit of space to have something underneath that the XS probably wouldn't.

Went Spicy Orange…looked good in the pictures and it didn't lose any of the appeal in person.

  • I personally don't know the brand, so I googled it.
