Aerocool Project7 80+ Platinum PSU Fully Modular 650 Watt ($99) or 750 Watt ($119) + Delivery or Free Pickup @ Mwave

190

On clearance at Mwave. Seem like a good price and it's platinum rated, so should be pretty good. Could be considered as a possible upgrade for Techfast builds

8.2 rating on JonnyGuru for the 850 watt- http://www.jonnyguru.com/blog/2017/10/09/aerocool-project-7-… (Thanks shadako)
It performed worst on the "Value" category, getting a 7, but that was when the psu was 165 euros, so the value proposition for these should be much better.

  • Nice price. Aerocool Project7 is listed as tier 1 on linus PSU Tier List (old). Is this still correct?

      No idea

Tier lists aren't that great. Don't take into account product design. I was looking a Silverstone based on that list, but they dropped quality according to reviewers. You have to go by each model. I think Johnnyguru.com is at least an indepth reviewer Link

Crazy price, only bummer is the 1 year warranty.

$139.70 on Newegg if anyone interested in 850W version.

Not sure why Mwave is showing 12 months…
Manufacturer website has 7 year warranty (which you would expect for this type of PSU)

Maybe a mistake? or cos it's clearance stock maybe?

        Hi Baws9k,

we're confirming with the manufacturer and the local supplier now. Hoping to update everyone shortly.

        • Confirmed it comes with 7 year warranty

          • @Mwave: Oh darn, was waiting for this confirmation before buying and now the 650W is out of stock, would you guys be getting anymore of them in?

  • Any specials for higher watts (more than 850W) PSU?

  • +1

Great price but those 5 port peripheral connectors are so strange - I've never seen that before, are they proprietary? Might make mixing existing, custom or getting replacement cables difficult.

    • yeo proprietary and odd - its a neg

      • I never knew this but turns out most PSUs are proprietary on the PSU side and not universally exchangeable and you risk significant damage mixing cables between different PSUs. I always just assumed there was a standard! Learn something new everyday

    • Aren't they just 5557-5P connectors? using standard 5559 female pins. Look like it. Shouldn't be any harder to replace than 2x3 pin. Potentially harder to get in anything than white though.
Looks like the Molex part number is 03-04-4052.

      • yeah it would be possible to source I'm sure but a bit of pain when you can't dip into the ol' box of cables in the cupboard

    • I've seen them on some seasonic (and seasonic-based OEM'ed units), no idea if the pinout is the same though of course

  • Is Aerocool trustworthy? Anyone have any experience with this PSU? Interested in its price but wary about the product

Read the JonnyGuru review. As shadako said, it's better to review the individual psu rather than the company that makes them, as even good companies can make poor quality psu's

    • aerocool are at the cheap end of the spectrum…they're not rubbish but tend to be lower quality,, doesn't mean that some of their stuff isn't ok but can't say their psu's fill me with confidence - I buy cheap evga because they're highly rated and once or twice a year cheap. can't get cheap seasonic's anymore sadly

  • Would this be better than a Seasonic 750w Focus Plus Gold PSU? https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E1681715…

    • check the reviews but seasonic were one of the best psu manufacturers

    • Im running the Seasonic focus plus 750 and its a great PSU. My only gripe is with the FUGLY heat shrinking on the cables. They put about 7cm worth on each cable and you can even bend it cause its so hard. I had to hack some off on the 6+2 and the 24pin connectors so that i could bend the cable. Just look at the pic in the Newegg link you posted, yeah, its that fugly.

      • Cool, good to know. The reason why I was asking was because I bought that Seasonic PSU over the weekend, paid $184 delivered. My previous 620W Seasonic PSU (also modular) lasted 10 years and suddenly died a week ago.
