Keeping the battery topped up on a little used machine such as a boat or tractor or occasional use automobile
I've got this on a car I intend to fix. It keeps the battery charged enough that I can start it if I need to
Battery powered light. Front door camera. Maintaining charge on boat battery. Anything that discharges slowly that can charge all day.
Great price! Grabbed one of these at their RRP to 'simplify' the trickle charging of a battery in car that doesn't get much use. Had a larger, more powerful and far higher quality panel previously (thick glass with aluminium frame, designed for outdoor use) but it was complete overkill and awkward to handle without damaging the inside of the car. This one is so much more compact & easier to handle and doesn't seem to be warping while sitting on top of the dash in direct sun… but I've only been using it for a couple of months so only time will tell I suppose. Great find. I might have to go to my local Bunnies and see if they've reduced their price too!
You lose quite a bit of capacity using it on the inside of a windscreen.
Yep, my thoughts exactly and is why I originally purchased the much larger panel. I thought I'd give one of these a go instead and yeah, it's been fine! I'm running it through the same regulator the old panel used and a quick volt test after 6 weeks proved it was all working very nicely. Winter may be a bit different but I'm pretty sure it'll still be good enough.
If they still have this one and is at its full price just tell them that this item is a deleted one and they have to discount it. This is what I did at Nunawading store last night. Usually it goes half price down as per Bunnings practice as far as I know it.
Any receipt pics? See if can get a price match at my local Bunnings.
(Just saw the price sticker on the box showing $15, hopefully that will do the job)
Hook this up to a USB car charger to use it to charge usb battery packs, phones etc
I have an old 100ah battery that gets used every few months for camping but otherwise sits in a corner. This absolutely seems like something I need right?
I assume it's not available anywhere else?
Will this stop charging once the battery is full, or will it overcharge the battery?
It’ll send current to the battery whenever there’s sufficient light to generate a current.
You'll need a solar controller for that, but at 7.5w it's only going to be just over half an amp in optimal conditions, a trickle charge so unlikely to cause any problem.
About 10 left at Bunnings Oxenford QLD @$15- 7pm wed 3/4.
Couldn't get this honored at Hawthorn, VIC
Ideal to use for the Arlo, Nest Swann etc. Cheaper than the OEM products.
Their own products would hopefully have regulated output though. These things put out a pretty high voltage with a small load (I hooked up a 12V PC fan to test and was getting up to 20V.) You could probably get away with a cheap buck converter on eBay to do the job though..
$10 at Cockburn, WA.
Should be plenty of stock left. Was on a top rack pallet yesterday which they can only get down after store close apparently, but was ready to collect today. Didn't see any floor stock when I went to pick up though.
They also have the twin 1.5W packs on a trolley at front of store for the same price (which doesn't seem like great value give the 7.5W price.)
Bought two from Nunawading today. Still had at least 10 left. It's in the solar lights isle. Any idea if they can be permanently left outside? I.e are they waterproof?
Twin 1.5 (3w) at Bunnings coburg $7 50 or so in stock as of today
What would a practical use of this be?
