First $1,500 = 0.66 points per dollar
After $1,500 = 0.50 points per dollar

Annual fee $64 for first year, then $129.
Additional card holder fee $19 for first year, then $39.

There is also a deal for the High Flyer card, which nets 90,000 bonus points but with an annual fee of $289 thru the same link.

    • yes but no cashback

      • Which, at 1% or so, is worth a lot less than using the voucher. Good point though to consider.

  • +1

Applied yesterday and uploaded the docs shortly after.
Who has been approved? I'm still waiting to hear back.

    • Applied and approved within 12 hours. Applied this morning.

      • approved also today .15700 limit

  • I just applied now. I need a balance transfer, but also want the points. With BT, I get no interest free days. Can I spend $1500 at the end of the first month, and then pay $1500 into the card on the same day and not pay any interest?

    • +1

More or less, but you'll end up paying for a few days' interest (pretty sure if you pay on the day of spend, it'll pay down the BT, as the transactions take a few days to register).

    • You might want to check that.

Anything you pay onto the card will go against your BT first. So if you do a BT of say 5k and then spend $1500, if you then pay 1500 onto the card it will reduce your BT by $1500 but you will pay the standard credit card interest on the $1500 and the BT interest on the remaining $3500.

In order to pay no interest, you would need to pay off the entire BT plus the $1500.

That's how it works for most Ballance Transfers. You might want to ring and check though. I have been burnt before with a Ballance transfer.

  • Applied let's see how we go, I noticed this one a few months ago when it was only 60,000 points so looks like it's improved.

    • Applied Tuesday night approved Thursday lunch time

  • Approved… 48 hours after submitting forms. Thanks for posting OP

Approved within 20hrs of loading docs.

    • did they call you to ask any questions?

      • no questions on my app

2nd time rejected by citybank where I had applied for Qantas credit card and this, both are backed by Citibank. I currently have Citibank creditcard and in no way I would know if Virgin credit card is underwritten by Citibank.

Citigroup Pty Ltd ABN 88 004 325 080 ("Citibank") AFSL/Australian credit licence 238098 is the credit provider and issuer of the Credit Cards.

    • I also have a Citibank card with the limit of 15000
Although I knew this Virgin Money is issued by city and I was ready for not being approved.

But they approved and 15700 which I will reduce soon to 6000
I provided Statement with savings that's probably helped.

Ive always held the Citibank Signature. And have successfully had the High Flyer, and now the Qantas Premier at the same time as the Citibank signature card.

  • Applied Monday still waiting eod Thursday. They called yesterday but was slow as eff telling me to hold while system was slow…

    • Update: Declined . My 2nd card declined by citibank. Good CR. Pass income and only hold 1 other card.

      • I have a citibank credit card and thought this will be declined because of this, but hey it is approved today.

        • I don't even hold one but citi has declined my application twice. Once for another brand

          • @freestyle18: Better off finding out with virgin.
when my qantas credit card was declied (by citi) I told that because I was holding citibank and cannot have two cards by citi.

            • @Unacceptable: well when I called virgin money they are not allowed to tell me why it's declined. they hold the criteria confidential.

              • @freestyle18: Macquarie Bank said the same. I even said I'd take the lowest credit card and still declined due to their rules. As a customer we should be given more information than that and there are no institutions to raise your concerns so they keep doing it.

      • Same, applied for the Qantas one in Feb and this one and both rejected. Have an ANZ Black that I always pay off and a 28degrees used for travelling. I think its just the amount applied for in the last year. I usually cycle through an Black ANZ Qantas and Reward card every year and a Wespac card. Might just have to give Citibank a miss for a couple years.

  • applied and was approved very next day…even though I didn't supplied any income docs…bit strange.
plan to buy gift cards from wooli and coles…hope those gift card are counted against eligible purchase.

    • I don't think they (Virgin) can tell what items you bought, so should be all good.

I wanted to pay REGO but that's out!

    • employed or self employed?

      • employed…
there is no block on my CC n i can make purchases..

  • hi this is just a general question the other credit card threads were expired… once you book your complimentary flight EG VIRGIN complimentary flight can you then cancel the credit card straight away or do you need to keep the credit card until you have used the flight?

    • Per my experience with anz and amex, it does not matter once U booked Ur flights and later cancel the card.

    • You don't have to book the flight - you just have to receive the voucher (and of course the points) before you cancel.

      • Thanks perfect answer. Do you generally need to call or is it somewhere in the MYVELOCITY online?

        • +1

The voucher comes in an email with a voucher number and validity period - the last one I received had a validity of 6 months from date of issue. The leftover balance can also be used multiple times until it reaches zero. Hope this helps.

  • I have a Citibank Signature. Last applied for a credit card 10 months ago. Applied and uploaded all documents yesterday, approved within 24 hours. Thanks OP.

Fine print on link "27. 75,000 bonus Velocity Points offer is available to new approved Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card account holders who apply by 30 June 2019" Has the offer been extended or is this an error?

    • +1

Offer extended, I have updated the post, thanks.

  • I filled everything out until the point where I needed to send them payslips, id etc.
I left it for a couple (2-3 days) as I wanted to send them my latest payslip (it was towards the end of the month).

I got a call as I think they were afraid I had pulled out. Offered me 5,000 bonus points if I could send them the remaining info that day!

    Might be something worth trying.

    • Dunno about you but they offered me 10k points! :p

      • how many days till they offered you this?

        • Like only 2 days later

          • @Kingofdealz: ok thanks, they called my work today though, hopefully tomora i get the call with offeeers

      • Were these 'offers' made after you had submitted the application?

    • What was the phone number? I got a phone call from 02****2490 the day I applied which I couldn't answer, and the next day got rejected.

      • +1

Yes it was an 02 number. I'm not on the East coast so I don't get many 02 calls.

  • I was given a credit limit on my card of at least $20k more than what I needed. I presume I can ask them to reduce it.

  • Spent over 2k on first month and didn't get my points, had to call them up to fix it !

    • you can send them a message in the portal - I find that easier.
but you definitely have to watch Virgin and points - I've had to contact them numerous times re points not being transferred.

    • The T&C on "eligible" transactions are pretty terrible:

"Please note that whether or not a transaction is an Eligible
Transaction will be determined based on information
provided either by the merchant or the relevant financial
institution (including information about the type of
business conducted by the merchant). This means that,
for example, spend with certain merchants may be
characterised as spend with a government related entity
and therefore not an Eligible Transaction, even if that
merchant is not in fact a government related entity."

Basically they decide and they won't define the criteria.

I've just completed my first month and I messaged them multiple times through the month (every few days) to confirm if my transactions were "eligible". They've have now confirmed I've met the $1500 spend for the month. Gonna do the same for the next two months too.

Oh and note that their awful messaging system doesn't allow quotation marks or question marks. Probably other characters too.

      • oh yeah. it's even worse when you reply to a message that they send you, as the incoming message adds all sorts of characters.

    • +1

I got my normal spend points after the first month, but not the 25K. Terms and conditions say up to 60 days for points to post.

      • Got my first statement this morning. Statement shows 25K bonus points and now already in my velocity account.

        • sigh thanks… need a call to Citi…

          • @kyle: I'm in the same boat Kyle. I've sent them a message asking them when I can expect to see my missing points.

            • @roddy84: Got my first statement today too - it doesn't show the full spend of points OR the bonus points despite them confirming to me by message on May 4th that I had reached the required spend.

Have also messaged them for a response.

              • @gadgetguy: I called them and they said it's an issue a lot of people are getting, they gave me 2k extra points for my troubles lol

                • @Kingofdealz: Yep, just called too.

First off they tried to claim I hadn't met the required spend so I told him to add it all up (it's $1544) and also to refer the the secure message which confirmed that I HAD met it.

Eventually he admitted I was correct and said he'd request it was manually added and added a further 5k points for my trouble.

                  Hope I don't get this every month…

                  • @gadgetguy: i got a cut and paste reply to my message:
                    "
We advise that the account was approved to earn 25,000 bonus Velocity
Points for every month $1,500 or more is spent on Eligible Transactions
for 3 months from card approval. Please note that the points will be
credited to the Primary Cardholders Velocity Account up to 60 days after
                    the qualifying purchases. "

Time to ring them I think.

                    • @roddy84: I haven't received any points either (just met the minimum spend for the second month), I thought I would just wait until 60 days have passed before calling. Is there any reason to expect they should be transferred sooner?

                      • @FTac: Going by the previous replies where it seems so many people didn't have to wait or got them credited over the phone it seemed the process could be hurried.

                        • @roddy84: I think the issue is that the statement should show the 25k BONUS points, even if its going to take 60 days for them to get to your Velocity account. After they did the manual adjustment they told me that my "statement #1" bonus points will now appear on my next statement.

I spoke to them again today (and also messaged them) to confirm I'd met my "statement #2" eligible purchase requirements. They confirmed and again said that these bonus points would appear on the next statement, so I'm expecting 25k + 25k + 5k + my monthly spend points on statement #2.

If you don't see the bonus points on your statement, despite having met the spend, then you should call them.

                          • @gadgetguy: I'll wait for the 60 days first, since they asked me to wait, and if the points don't appear, I'll give them a blast.

                            • @kyle: I recently did the 60k bonus. The points came in right on the statement date each month, except the last batch, in which I got the 20k a day or so late, and the normal spend (~ 1k points) about two or three weeks after.

                              • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: Thanks for the data point. Will definitely keep a close eye on the 75K points.

                              • @JohnHowardsEyebrows: Is the statement date same as the approval date? Do you receive first statement exactly 30 days after approval?

                            • +1

@kyle: Good news, my first lot of 25K points has just come through on the statement.

                              • @kyle: Thanks for the update. When did you make the $1500 spend and when did your statement end? Just trying to figure out how long it takes for the 25k to land :)

                                • @bobwokeup: Spent on 15 April. Statement end date 2 May.

                                  • @kyle: Oh wow that is quick. Companies usually take months to give you the bonus points.

Anybody know if virgin card have anything to do with citibank , HSBC or Macquarie bank (coz they suck)?

    • +2

Agreed they all suck, especially Macquarie Bank but Virgin is through Citibank.

  • Do they always call your workplace?

    • called mine, and approved me without sending anything in. was waiting for the call for bonus 5k :(

  • How easy to close this card?

    • These days can close via online account

      • They legally now need to provide an online option to close the account.

  • Does anyone know if I dont activate the card and cancel it will I still have to pay the annual fee? Not sure its worth going ahead with all the troubles following up with them.

  • I saved my application and then resumed it a few weeks later. I had a screenshot of the application reference number (thankfully), but they never actually emailed me that reference number or a link to resume the application (despite the "save" button saying it would email me both of these things). If that happens to anyone else, the link to use to resume is here: https://virginmoney.com.au/credit-card/contact-us/manage-you…

  • I was approved back in April but the card never turned up in the mail. I've just called up today to have a new card sent out.

Does anyone know whether 'first three months' for bonus points is based on approval date or card activation date? I asked on the phone and the answer was activation date, however she didn't sound confident.

Reading the T&C's seems to imply it's the approval date:

75,000 bonus Velocity Points offer is available to new approved Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card account holders who apply by 30 June 2019. 25,000 bonus Velocity Points will be awarded for every month $1,500 or more is spent on Eligible Transactions for 3 months from card approval.

  • I was told it was approval date. I am glad I rang them because ANZ, for example, on their credit cards seem to use activation date. I quickly bought some gift cards to make up the amount needed in the short space of time left last month as I had also assumed activation date and was almost caught out.

    • Nearly all use activation date. Virgin are still waiting for their cherry to pop!!! Mind you they've been saying Apple Pay is "coming" soon for over 4 years now…

  • I have had this card for 6 months. So I can close this card today and then call up tomorrow and reapply for another round of bonus points?

    • yes (refer to page 1 of comments)

  • +1

    My saga on this continues.

After month #1 (Apr - May) when no bonus points appeared on my statement I they admitted an issue and promised a manual adjustment along with 5000 points for my trouble. They said this would all appear on my next statement. This was on May 10th.

My May-June statement came last week which showed the 25K bonus points for May-June and points for my May-Jun transactions but nothing else. Just called and they said the manual adjustment request was only submitted yesterday i.e. 6 weeks later!

They've now promised (yeah right) it will be in both my Virgin and Velocity accounts within a few days. I'm not holding my breath. They offered another 5k points compensation but I talked them up to 10k, given the circumstances. Just don't have much confidence of if and when I'll see any of these points now.

Everyone else received their points properly?

    • I did for 2 months, waiting for 3rd now

      • Me too.

        • So the manual credit has now been done - but for 20k, not 25k. And they credited me the 10k (second) compensation but not the original 5k. Jeez.

So I'm still 10k down and have to call yet again.

          • @gadgetguy: you don't need to call - send a message through the online portal.

            • @bohn: I find I usually just get canned replies that don't have much relevance to my query.

              • @gadgetguy: I've had them fix the exact issue you have mentioned over the portal. Just make it clear and to the point - and say you aren't happy that you have to keep asking for it to be done.

                • @bohn: I've now got a nice lady following up and calling me back with updates. She now completely understands the issue and assures me I will be credited with my missing 10k points PLUS the 25k for month #3 (which she's checked I'm eligible for) on my next statement, due Tuesday. She's going to monitor and check and call me back again after then to ensure I'm happy.

She explained that their last issue was that they tried to credit me all I was owed at the time (25k + 25k + 5k) but that Virgin rejected it for being too big! So they then split it into 20k, 20k and 10k and bundled the 5k with the credit for my spending for last month. But that in doing all that they still missed off the final 10k compo credit.

It's so nice to speak to someone competent who isn't trying to fob you off with BS.

She has even removed the interest I've accrued due to spending the $1.5k whilst I have a balance transfer and has tagged that spend so it won't incur further interest.

                  Fingers crossed for Tuesday…

Note to Mods: Deal extended to 31 August 2019.

  • Would I be eligible if I only have a velocity membership?

    • To be eligible you need to pass the credit check based on your financial situation.

Having velocity membership only helps in collecting point to your account, nothing to do with credit card approval

  • Which is better. This deal or the amex 100,000 points with 375$ fee - global travel insurance, one free return flight, lounge passed, higher points earn (1.5 points per dollar spent)

    • Both are good, don't keep cards for long. Sign up once you got the points then cancel and start again with else

  • -1

I (presumably accidentally) received an additional 50k bonus points through this card, but I haven't received the final month's 25k bonus. Is there any way that this transfer can be reversed if the points have already been credited to my Velocity account? I don't want to enquire about the missing 25k if it means there's a chance I'll come out behind!

  • Have received by all of the 75k points

  • I finally got my 75k too plus I ended up with an extra 30K in compensation for the multiple times they failed to add the promised points.
