I'm guessing prob not even owned or cooked by Japanese
They're actually one of the most famous (and with justification) ramen chains in Japan. The local outlet isn't to the same high standard, sadly. Can't say I found Bankara to be great. Hakoya is the best I've found in Melbourne so far.
I wonder though if it's been franchised out to Chinese. Sushi Jiro (a franchise that is popping up in most shopping centres in Melb) is owned by a Chinese company, but smart enough to hire mostly Japanese staff and chefs
Haven't tried Hakoya, how many pork slices do they give you in the standard bowl?
My favourite is Shujinko, but even they are stingy with the pork slices.
@1brokeguy: IIRC it's 2, but don't recall. The pork isn't the highlight for me, but the exquisite broth.
I like your taste!
I haven't had the same experience. I eat a lot of Japanese food both locally and in Japan and Ippudo is tops for me. I find Hakata over hyped and it's ramen only so-so.
Well they cook these like instant noodles anyway. It's basically fast food style ramen.
Everything comes prepacked and the indo "chef" basically measure the right amount of water, bring it up to boil and dump stuff in.
Tried their ramen, very underwhelming experience. Personally I much rather hakata Gensuke or ramen bankara
