Shame on you guys for doing this crap on ebay https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Rivers-Japan-350ml-Wallmug-Sleek…

    • What do you mean mate?

      • +5

The listing is clearly for the cup. Price shows $19.99 in search results when only the 'accessory' is $19.99 and all the cups are $29.99

        • -4

Unfortunately we don't have liberty to choose the price to display, the listing shows the lowest price option available from the options.

If we had a choice, we'd show the actual $29.99 price to avoid confusions

          • +2

@Mostly Melbourne: Why not split the listings - like you are meant to because they're different items. No one else puts their whole category of items in a single listing.

            • -2

@upsidedownlemon: We had a separate listing for the MCD by itself which didn't get much page visits (hence low search ranking), and people were asking questions about where to find the accessory for the cup so we included as part of the same listing to make it easier to find (taking advantage of the higher ranking listing)

              • @Mostly Melbourne: You can link one product to another using basic html. In the description for your cups, you list the accessories using a hyper-link in the description of the main item to prevent the frustration of people searching for a product, sorting by price and being misled.

I know the whole hyperlink concept is relatively new, but it does work.

                • @MorriJ: Thank you!

                  • +3

@Mostly Melbourne: It's a pet peeve. I used to run an eBay store and I tried to avoid it wherever possible, I know the rankings dont necessary follow each other etc. Some people will boycott you simply because you are conflating the pricing, even if they find you are the cheapest.

People don't like to feel cheated and people think their time is worth money. Clicking a link and discovering its actually $10 more genuinely aggrieves people (myself as a consumer included).

And just for the record; I still use my purple cup every day and think these are a good product and good price. I got mine from Amazon (your store) a tiny bit cheaper; but not by much.

I do have a question, is there any way to source the round rubber seal thingy? I remove mine every 3-4 days to clean it properly and its starting to wear a bit. A pack of 5 or 10 of them would be a pearl er.

                    • +1

@MorriJ: I'll check with Rivers to see if they can send us some rubber gaskets to replace worn out ones, will reach out to you once they arrive

                    • @MorriJ: Hi MorriJ
Just sent you a PM as we have some rubber seals incoming to Australia.
                      Cheers

              * except nearly every Chinese seller…

        • +4

          Ah that.

At least he didn't make it a $1 item like the Chinese sellers do.

    • Have you been on eBay in the past 4 years? I've seen a lot of sellers do this and unfortunately, it is necessary to have your store seen.

      • +7

I do see it all the time. It's incredibly frustrating as it ruins the whole search results.

    • +1

irrelevant comment. OP is not marketing their ebay listing.

  • +3

How do these compare in heat retention to ceramic and glass?

    • +7

Not great, the double-wall is more for avoid burning your hand from the hot drink in the cup.

      • +5

        Thanks for honesty

        • For a flat white coffee it's perfect. If a barrister has burnt the coffee and the liquid is too hot, your hand will get scorched. I know to take it back and get a new one (usually a new or jnr barrista) if the coffee inside this cup is too hot to handle still.

If it was more insulated, I wouldn't know until I took the first mouthful, burnt my mouth and stormed back demanding to know why even when using milk its too hot to handle.

If a barrister has burnt the coffee and the liquid is too hot, your hand will get scorched.

Probably not a good idea to sue him then…

            • +1

@eug: A barrister would probably overheat the milk being a novice overpaid barista!

  • +3

    Bought my second one.
These don't hold heat well but I normally finish my coffee within the hour.
They are light weight and don't dent/ break if dropped.

  • As usual don’t forget cashreward and ShopBack to bring the price down

  • Most of the coffee shops I frequent offer a complimentary paper cup to go with my take-away coffee. Is having to provide your own cup a Melbourne thing?

    • +2

Those cups cannot be recycled. Every takeaway cup used goes to landfill. Lots of people I know choose to use keep cups like these to do their part for the environment.

      • -4

You (speaking generally of Melbournians and/or those who use "keep cups") pretend to care about the environment, but are really only interested in appearing trendy. How do I know this? More often than not you'll have a newly purchased bottle of "spring" water right alongside your trendy keep cup. They'll be two or three more such bottles in your late model SUV — you know, the over-sized, over-powered 4WD you simply must have to keep up with the Jones', even though you've never once been off the bitumen. Good one, mate.

        • +1

Wow this guy is the expert on every Melburnian! Don't you dare disagree!

    • Do you really have to ask why reusable coffee cups are used?

      • -2

No, I already know. And it has zero to do with the environment.

        • And it has zero to do with the environment.

          Are you sure about that?

          • -1

@magic8ballgag: Fairly sure. But if you'd care to fill me in on what the environmental cost is to produce your "keep cups" (energy costs to produce, non-recyclable materials used, how long before they too become landfill etc) theb perhaps I (or more likely you) can become enlightened :)

            • +2

@dcash: So what's your suggestion, Drink our coffee in our bare hands? Can't stand people who criticise just for the sake of it. Keep cups are certainly better than "complementary paper cup" which are not paper, otherwise they'll be recyclable.

              • @ShouldIBuyIt: They're either stupid or trolling, either way I'm not going to bite.

                • -1

@magic8ballgag: Didn't think you could. You're just another mindless zombie. 'nuff said.

              • @ShouldIBuyIt: I assume you meant complimentary, and not complementary? In any event, they're mostly paper. What are your keep cups made out of?

            • @dcash: Sure, 15 uses according to below link.
Might not be totally accurate but feel free to provide other evidence.
              Or not.

              https://junkee.com/keepcup-really-making-difference/142515

              • @gunslinger: According to the link in the link you provided, which was the source for the "15 uses" (which is comparing glass vs paper cups — not exactly what the OP is promoting), it also says that "50 per cent of takeaway cups used in shopping centre cafes" were recyclable (at odds with those who replied to me stating that the "paper" cups "cannot be recycled"). So like I said, there are a lot of mindless zombies here that believe whatever they want to believe, without bothering to do any research and make informed choices. I have no problem if someone believes, based on research and evidence, that their "keep cup" is benefiting the environment — I just have a problem with people who spout nonsense based on marketing material as opposed to science — and then downvote me and call me a troll simply because I what I choose to believe doesn't agree with them.

    • A lot of coffee shops in Adelaide offer a discount on your coffee if you BYO cup (small discount but still around 50c most places). I guess it's an incentive to bring in something reusable and prevent as much going to the landfill.

    • No I do that in Sydney.
      Less waste.

  • How does is compare to the 7/11 rCup which is $10 currently in the app?

    • +1

Thanks OP, finally gave up to peer pressure and bought 2, and the MCD.

  • +1

Purchased. Thanks OP. Broke my KeepCup early this year and was waiting for a deal to replace. These look great!

    • Curious how did you break it? Was it just losing the little turn lid?

      • I had a glass KeepCup and fumbled it getting of the car. It shattered well and truly

    • Thank you!

  • What's Japanese about this cup?

    • -1

I had the same query and from my 2 min research these are "Designed in Japan" but then, "Made in China" ofc :(

      • If it was made in Japan it would probably cost $30 and we'd all be complaining it was too expensive. ;)

        • +1

It usually costs $28! How anyone could pay more than $5-$10 for a keep up is beyond me.
