[Refurb] Sony HTX9000F 2.1ch Dolby Atmos / DTS: X Sound Bar with Bluetooth $399.20 Delivered @ Sony eBay

As per title, refurbished Sony HTX9000F 2.1ch Dolby Atmos/DTS: X Soundbar originally $499, after eBay PROGRAM20 code, down to $399.20.

Was looking for a normal 2.1 soundbar with sub woofer for around $300, nothing flashy and came across this. Although it's not true surround being 2.1 and also not as good as other Dolby atmos soundbars in that it does not have upward firing speakers, it uses Sony's digital Vertical Sound Engine to give a mediaocre sound stage at best according to some reviews/acceptable for others.

I'm not expecting fully immersive surround sound, it'll be an added bonus to buying a non atmos soundbar around $300. Also has 4K HDMI pass-through with ARC and has Bluetooth, though reviews aren't stellar for musical use, though not horrible. All of the reviews are based on full RRP, which is still selling at JB HiFi for $799. If it was at this price, I'm sure the reviews might be a bit more favourable.

I hate audio companies marketing departments that can get away with such rubbish. Atmos is and always will be dedicated speakers up firing or ceiling mounted. Virtual surround isn't far behind as well for complete bullshit.

i dont even like upfiring speakers as its more realistic with downfiring ceiling speakers

Yeah I temporarily had it, it's a waste IMO. At best it's ambience.

Yeah I'm expecting zero effect tbh lol

@scuderiarmani I partially agree with you. These are crappy sales techniques and definitely a surround sound configuration needs more speakers.

In saying that, the whole point of Atmos is that is “object-based” and you don’t necessarily need ceiling speakers to enjoy it. A 5.1 mix in Atmos is better than in DD or DTS 5.1 since when they mix the audio for the film, they don’t do it by channel anymore, but they do it by “object”, or source of sound, and they edit it by placing it whenever they want around you. Ceiling speakers make it more immersive, but you can definitely enjoy a 5.1 Atmos downmix with proper Atmos equipment.

I repeat, 2.1 soundbar for Atmos, though, seems like Payo g extra for something you will not be able to fully appreciate.

Dont get me wrong, I've heard instances of where you can fake surround and I was sorta impressed… this was just with a Logitech Headset. Having said that…. a demo is usually something far and above what the normal experience is usually.

Than I just go upstairs into 5.1.2 HT and just laugh at myself for thinking it was any good… You can create an effect, but nothing beats having a speaker behind (or above) you.

        • You cant trust demos in set up rooms as they usually have walls angled the correct way to direct the sound. If your going to re wall your house to suit you might as well get speakers installed

  • These are ok speakers, but as mentioned above there is only horizontal sound which can be perceived, so it's quite pointless for atmos.

They're loud and decent quality, but other than the volume I reckon there are probably better options even at the $400 price point.

  • How does this compare to a Sony HTXT3?

  • Oh damn.. they changed the price.. was $439 with 20% coming down to $351. Now it's $499
