  • Are you trying to say presale?

About to buy an exway but was fairly keen on this too.

      Same.
Then I saw this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZS-P7jElOk&feature=youtu.be

I currently have a Ownboard W1s and I'm sure the W2 being belt driven accelerates slightly harder with a slightly higher top speed. However, as seen above the Exway X1 Pro (on hubs) and even an old Boosted V2 leave it for dead.

While the W2 will have slightly better ride quality being belt driven and having a flexible deck, I suspect it still won't be good enough for me to be completely carefree (ie not need to brace and stop accelerating) when riding over cracks/bumps along the bike paths. I'd probably need pneumatic tyres for this which is a completely different league of board (price and weight wise).

The X1 Pro being on Ebay now and able to be combined with a 10% off code + 10-15% off ebay gift cards sealed it for me. Its real world range of 15-20km whilst flooring it is probably enough and the 1-2% per minute fast charger is a game changer. Build quality of the X1 Pro will be exponentially better. Innate water proofing is a good feature too.

Then there's the optional $300 USD belt drive riot motor swap should you get bored in the future… Will probably take 10-20% off your range though.

Local 6 month warranty too through their local stockists (QLD, NSW, VIC).

My thoughts anyway. I suspect they will both be fun boards and a step up from the usual Meepo, Ownboard/Wowgo, Backfire G2Ts.

  • Proficient Mode: 26mph (42 km/h)

On a skateboard that can throw you off if the 3 inch wheels happen into a rock …

    • Always wear a full face helmet (I'd recommend Bell 3R/TSG Pass) and have good knee, elbow, wrist pads +/- gloves.
The full face is necessary as board riders get thrown forwards a lot more compared to cyclists.
Worth bearing with a little bit of discomfort from the helmet than having expensive facial and dental injuries.

  • Is it really that hard to push with one foot every few meters…?

Fun fact, as soon you turn 30, everything anyone under 30 says, buys and does will be confusing and seem stupid.

    • Can't push up hill.

its 100x more fun when you can go uphill and even better the fact that you dont have to worry about destroying you legs/knees braking when going down hill.

Completely different board game. Eskate vs. Traditional.

Closest thing to daily surfing and snowboarding when you get some carves going. All whilst being a practical mode of transport.

Need all AT wheels, such small wheels are dangerous on anything but perfectly flat, pebble free surfaces.

Agreed. The solutions are DIY or spending obscene amounts of money ($4.5K+ for Lacroix, Kaly NYC).
Shame there aren't many sellers of DIY boards here in Australia - ?Hard to get parts
Backfire X1 Ranger seems like the only viable mainstream one but is pretty slow, heavy and has wheel problems.
Avoiding Evolved which seems to have a bad rep of poor quality ESCs and batteries which prematurely die/sag and have locked up and thrown people off at speed.

Hoping with time that it'll be legal to also ride on the designated bike lanes on the road like other cyclists and avoid the crappy foot paths. They certainly go fast and are are manoeuvrable enough.

In the meantime, plebs like me just slow down, use a good torch and brace/anticipate as much as we can :P

        Agree too :)
I went to buy the Evolve GT Carbon AT on Saturday, but turns out the shop didn't have stock even though their website said they did… looks awesome, but they're using cheap ass pouch Lith-ion which will sag after about 50 cycles. You can buy a decent 40x30Q (10s4p) pack for about $450, but the pairing and throwing issues does deter me… I'm in my 40's and I don't think I can handle falls like I used to, so I may just stick w/ my 3.5kw scooter, which is AWESOME but conspicuous, think 5-O; and the LiPo's need replacing (4x7s 2 in parallel then series to get 58v) ~$400 now, cost me <1/2 that 3 years ago.

The GT carbon has (bulk pricing estimate) ~$200 worth of ESC + Motor + electronics + belts + mounts, the battery is 10x10ah cell in series so about $150, wheels + trucks ~$100, rough guess $200 for the deck; so all up I would say ~ $650 in parts.

        • Haha yeah Evolve seems to be a poor value proposition all round. Shame they're Australian and marketed as a premium brand.

Still illegal in NSW i'm guessing?

  • +1

    Another gen or two…

  • Whats people's reason to get an electric longboard instead of a regular push one? Aren't the electric ones heavier?

  • We can you, legally, ride these things?
