Hi all. Was looking for a cheap laptop with half decent specs. Think this looks pretty decent for the price. 8th gen chip, 8gb ram 1tb hdd and a FHD screen. Not many if any 15.6" screens in this price range with a 1920x1080 screen.
Dell Vostro 15 3000 15.6" FHD i5 8250/1TB HDD/8GB/AMD Radeon 2GB Graphics $715 Shipped @ Dell Au

CD drive lol wtf
Deal breaker for me… I'm after the one with the VHS player…
I may sound like a broken record, but this is a low grade PC and not worth the price.
Look at surplus stock Dell Latitude, you often find good deals (some new open box, some still sealed brand new) in this price range or slightly more, but they will have much better components (screens, keyboards, SSD most likely etc.). Nothing much at the moment, but keep looking on eBay, they do pop up.This… Avoid the Vostro lineup if you can
Hi mate, I haven't seen your comment in other thread, so may I know what's wrong with Vostro series? Because I own a Vostro 7700 and would like to know problem problems associated with it. TIA.
vostro 7000 was a fine machine, but they killed vostro 7000. vostro line didn't know what to do with itself to start with, stuck between Inspiron and latitude being a weird cross between the two, and rarely chosen.
@[Deactivated]: Thanks mate, I like the sturdy build and performance of my laptop.
@Nokia 808: yeah, and I think if I pulled the trigger on that deal, I would still have it :D it looks like a very decent machine.
I saw you in another thread. Sometimes it is really hard to explain these information to people who know nothing about computer or biased fanboys. I am glad you still have the patience to do this. You are a great contributor. Slaute!
haha thanks
would similar lenovos be a better value for money and which are equivalent in your opinion?
Unless you are really needing the DVD-RW drive, I would recommend you to consider the E585 here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/442849 , very similar price after cashback (although less than 2 hours remaining on that deal from now) ;)
While storage isn't as high as 1TB, but that can be easily achieved via external storage (1TB external portable hard drive is often <$75 delivered from deals on OzBargain), while the SSD will give you a much better experience. The Ryzen 5 2500U also performs on par, if not better than the Core i5-8250U+Radeon520 (Yes, it'll outperform that AMD graphics).
The recommendation above regarding a second hand Latitude is also a good option (although might have to wait for sale for similarly spec Latitude).
Cheers.
wow cheaper than iphone.
And it supports a headphone jack!
lol
Great deal if you have a spare SSD drive! just buy a SATA optical Hard Drive Caddy for $5 on Amazon/EBay.
everyone does by now
