  • It's very cheap.

But…P & O are very much more of a young person/party cruise type liner, compared with other more "luxury" liners. Fun and very cheap holiday…but it depends what you're looking for! One big party? Then it's def a good deal. If you're looking for something more "upper class" etc I'd probably pick another cruise liner.

That being said its a VERY good deal!

My wife and I went on a 10 night P&O cruise about 2 months ago. Must say that based on our experience, it is no specific age bracket type liner at all. On our cruise, the shipwas pretty close to full capacity and we've seen a lot of families, young couples and singles as well as old old couples in even numbers and there was something to do for everyone. Food was great and one of our favorite bits was watching the movie on the big screen on the top deck under the sky at night. I'd definitely go on another P&O cruise myself.

  • if you've got kids between the age of 12ish and 18 and planning to take them I would steer clear.
The 'kids club' on board is designed for little ones and basically everthing else fun to do you have to be 18+ (they are strict with making sure u/18's don't drink).

When I was 16 we went on this adventure, and whilst all of the people in my age group hung together, there was really nothing provided for us to do (which 16 year old wants to play quoits), so we mostly just caused mischief.

I suggest saving your pennies until they're 18 unless the're young ones in which case the kids centre is apparently great.

The above prices are when 4 passengers share a cabin.
    2-Share Inside From $689.
Also be prepared that in July-August water temperature in New Caledonia is relatively cold and you may not be able to swim and snorkel.

  • Queen Mary 2 for me!

  • Is there a casino on board?

    • yes, think its just 1-2 tables (that vary each night) and about 30 odd pokies.
thats how it was a few years back anyway.

  • We had a P&O cruise to Brisbane on a previous deal.

Kids 3 and 7 at the time.
They spent most of their time at Turtle Cove/Shark Shack.
    They want to go again.

And we had sometime each day without kids.
So we want to go again. :)

the captains are not good on these boats. driving all over the place, the boat tipped over!

    • lolwut

      • yeah lol, fridays most random comment so far…

  • American Way Cruise Vacations are pretty good, it's an american website, save a little bit on exchange rate :)

They have a couple of last minute promo's on as well :)

Generally they are cheaper then most other cruises even without the sales. (keyword being generally and most)

    • Bit of a random comment, since they don't even do P&O cruises.

  • So for $479, does this include meals? if not what else you have to pay while on board?

    • drinks inc soft drink and alcohol etc. The one I was on included meals not sure about P&O though.

      • Yep all main meals are included as well as water, tea and coffee in restaurants (we traveled on Princess Jewel by the way). Bottled water and any other drink however are not included, but prices are quite reasonable.
And in case you are a smoker, yes you can buy cigarettes on board as well at a normal price as in shops.

        • I think that would be Pacific Jewel…

    • browsing through the web link, it states:
      Inclusions

      YOUR ONE LOW FARE INCLUDES:
      * All main meals on board: breakfast, lunch and dinner.
      * Unpack just once and cruise to unspoilt islands and bustling ports of the South Pacific.
      * En-suite accommodation with steward.
      * Dedicated children’s and teen’s programmes every day.
      * On board activities and entertainment.
      * Pampering service attending to your every need!

you could always call them on the 1300 number and confirm I guess. As I stated in the post, I have not been on the P&O so really can not comment on the exprience of it. I just thought $479 seems to be pretty good for a 8 night cruise.

      • $60 per day per person, including food + drink.

        sounds very good.

would it be suitable to take a 2 1/2 year old?

        • +1

Although they're welcome to travel, you need to be with them at all times; kids club starts from age 3.

  • Do I need a visa for New Caledonia, as I am not a Australian citizen.

    • That would depend on where you are a citizen of…

    • Just call p&o they will be able to tell you for sure

  • What about alcohol price on board? I found there is duty-free shop, so I'm curious if there is possible to buy cheaper alcohol.

    • It's about the same as pub prices (not a cheap pub) you can buy duty
Free on the ship but you get it at the end of the cruise.it's cheaper to get it at
some of the ports . Check out some of the cruise forums

      • Thank you, I'll try to find some informations.
I already booked a cruise, we are 4 friends 25-30y old so we definitely wants to spend some "quality drunk" time :)) but not pay extra hundreds $ for that :-)
