  • Not the best prices and it's a terribly cramped flight. I've done it the past 3 years this time of year and I ended up coming home on quantas last year. I'll pay the extra money for a better flight in future, it's horrible on Jetstar.

Interesting. I went with JQ in 2016 on the 787 and it was glorious. Really enjoyed it. Was up front in economy which worried me with all the bassinets/families, but it was so easy.

Incidentally - seat pitch in the 787 on Jetstar is 30-31 inches. On Qantas it's 31 (on their A330s for comparison). So basically the same. (source:seatguru)

      • I found the Quantas seats to have more legroom and seemed wider. I slept like a baby on there, I've never slept more than half and hour on a Jetstar flight. When you say upfront do you mean you had a front row? If so that wouldn't be so bad. The fact that these are a no frills flight means you need to pay for pretty much everything such as luggage (we do a lot of shopping there in Waikiki and the Alo Moana centre) entertainment, alcohol etc. These all add up and I'd rather hold out and fly with Hawaiian Airlines or Qantas in future.

      • hey mate im looking at travelling in August and was wondering if you had any recommendation in terms of accommodation. Found a few places but seems to be a bit of hit and miss as most hotels are quite old Just looking for a first hand experience to bite the bullet and book accommodation. Heading to honolulu.

        thanks in advance :)

        • I stayed at Hyatt centric and didn't like it. My room was extremely cramped to the point you couldn't open the wardrobe doors fully, or even the TV unit door where the safe was kept. I then had a room move and was put on the side of some club that had music blaring until 3am. The room was bigger, but I couldn't sleep. Where the club was situated was apparently a dangerous side of Waikiki where a lot of muggings happen. Next time, I'd rather stay closer to the water, even though it was only like 2 blocks away.

        • Without a doubt you go with The Outrigger Waikiki, The Moana Surfrider or The Sherriton (they are the 3 on the beach next to each other)
I've been 4 times now, I've got done friends who have been over a dozen. These are the 3 that everyone seem to be happy with every time.

Had the same experience on Jetstar with a window seat. I also think it’s worth the money to fly with Hawaiian airlines or QANTAS. In some cases the flights on Hawaiian airlines don’t fill up so you can get an empty seat next to you.

Prob better to get the holiday package at $899 with 5 nights accomodation, Waikiki is extremely expensive to stay!

  • If anyone wants the dates leaving May 4 and returning May 13 for $450 let me know, includes on both flights window seats and in-flight entertainment options. Both are direct and on the 787 Dreamliner as mentioned by the OP. Happy to pay the $75 change of name fee.

Can't go anymore (work) and changing the dates to those around the time isn't worth it (all around $350-$700 - meaning I have to pay an extra $225 to $575).
