Hi Ozbargainers…
I need to get a new phone for my wife.
Requirements are good camera, battery life and fairly fast.
This looks like a good deal but wanted to get opinions before I buy. Any thoughts please? Thanks!

SD450 seems like a 10% underclocked SD625, with the same GPU, adreno 506 https://www.notebookcheck.net/450-vs-625_9946_8168.247596.0.ā¦
Having reviewed the specs, I would say this is definitely a good deal for a phone under $300 :-)
Now an even better deal for $239 from eBay as discovered by rOxz and posted below.
Thank you to whoever negged me for simply expressing a personal opinion earlier.
No B28(700MHz)
Great price. But concerned about privacy!(Not that i am important enough to be spied upon, but still)
Huawei actually protects you from being spied on by the Western Governments :)
Don't buy Apple or Google or Microsoft based products if you care about your privacy. No doubt you have a hotmail or gmail address already.
Iām happy to be spied on by democratic governments. Not communist dictatorships however.
This is the most ridiculous comment I have ever heard! Be spied by "democratic" country makes him happy! Definition of "democratic" is very subjective, mate.
Be spied by "democratic" country makes him happy
National security makes me happy, yes.
Definition of "democratic" is very subjective, mate.
Not when you compare them to dictatorships.
@PainToad: Let's agree to disagree. I don't want to be spied by dictatorship Australian or any other government :) .
@PainToad: "National security makes me happy, yes."
Ha… get to the airport. You can't take those nail clippers with you mate. Get on the plane, meal served with metal fork and knife.
Your national security is laughable, besides the fact that all that 'great' national security is created by the same governments that went to wars they had no reason to go into, in the first place, but for the natural resources.
But society accepts it, and that's why it is the way it is.
The fact that you have a mobile phone means you can be tracked by A LOT of people you don't want tracking you. Your phone maker knows where you are at any given time. They know what you have installed. They know how often you look at your phone. They know what you websites you visit (so does your ISP).
If you have a corporate application (even Office 365) on your phone, your company tracks you. What you have installed, where you are, etc.
Your phone provider will know where you are based on your signal. That's how the police approximate your location at any given time.
Owning a mobile phone from any phone maker means you're getting tracked one way or another. They only way to be free from all this is to simply not have a mobile phone.
These days though, I don't know anyone below the age of 10 that doesn't have one. Whether they know it or not, everyone is being spied on.
How does this compare to Moto G6?
Both has SD450, so none is a winner to me ;)
G6 is cheaper but Huawei looks nice.
If I had to buy a Huawei phone in this range then I will get Nova 3i - should be around $350ish…
Just picked one up from the good guys for $370 was happy to pay that to buy locally.
Thinking the G6 from Good Guys at $279 is the best deal. It has dual sim, NFC (a must in 2019 IMO) and a good camera for a reasonable price. Can't really see aynthing else comparable, was hoping to spend under $200 but doesn't seem like it is possible without making a lot of compromises/missing features.
I think Moto have higher res displays, this is only HD+?
I'm shopping for a bigger screen phone for about $250, so that part of this deal is good.
I'm also wanting a NFC phone, this phone doesn't mention NFC so assume its not?
Also takes only 2 SIM, or 1 SIM and SD card. Moto take all 3 (at least my G5 does).
Thanks for thoughts so far. In response to Bappys question I thought this looks like a good deal hence the post but also wanted to know people's opinions on this model. Happy to have it removed and post in forum if I'm breaching any rules. Thanks
No worries mate… I personally don't have any issue posting this as a deal.
But I personally wouldn't buy this for $300.
Do u need to buy the phone locally?
& What is your Max budget?
Was hoping to spend up to $300 ideally. Any suggestions?
For $300 budget - I would buy from overseas (mainly Xiaomi as they give more for the price you pay)
Locally the best bet would be Moto G series, Huawei 3e (3i would be bit more expensive) or Nokia
Sorry cannot direct you to any specific deal atm but if I see anything I will let you know.
Cheers
Edit - This is a great bang for buck device, the extra $60 well worth it
@Bappy: Thanks so much for the recommendations. Will seriously consider the Nokia 8. I have a 6.1 and think it's great except for the camera quality.
Compared to Nova 3e? That is what I was going to get for my Dad.
Think the Nova 3e is a step up in terms of specs. Will be $299 at Costco from the 14/3.
Cheaper on eBay $239 delivered with eBay Plus (PLUSMORE) and don't forget 0% cashback
^^^THIS^^^
Lol @ 0% cashback
I think this is a better deal.

Snapdragon 625

Why not wait for the 5g phones?
He does not want to wait 5 years…
I got the std. Y7 and very happy with it
My only advice is buy a Aussie Spec., Aussie supported phone, forget the gray imports an orphan brands
might need to get yourself check, that's std isn't something to boast about.
What is a std Y7 as there are a few variants on the market in Australia currently?
There is the older Y7 2017, Y7 2018 and now also a Y7 Pro 2019.
All pretty decent phones for around $200, saw a Y7 2017 Vodafone prepaid somewhere on clearance for $149 and thought that was a good price.
Pretty selfish post.

Selfish?
Appreciate your wise (sarcastic) words šš
I guess most people are more concerned about their bank account safety than being spied on.
I use a custom ROM, and that's my biggest worry. But I still use my banking apps anyway because convenience. As scared as I am, I place all my trust in the devs.
Wait, you think you are not being spied on with other phones?
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro has a highly rated camera, faster processor and a higher resolution screen. Otherwise specs (Dual Sim 4G/4G, 6.26", 4000 Mah), and price including postage to Perth are virtually the same at $298, except that the second slot is only for a TF card, not a sim in AU, being 2G only. For probably more $ the Redmi Note 7 Pro has an even better camera, but is not readlily available yet.
Good phone for $288 delivered Australia Wide ( Flat rate ) with the TAKE10 $10 off code if you don't mind getting by without the B28.
As far as the dual sim 2G thingy goes, pretty sure that's the old spiel from OS sellers as my old Redmi Note 4 and Mi A2 both run 3G/4G in both sim slots.
Last week bought for my wife a Huawei nova 3i for $346 after pricebeating at Officeworks. It looked like the best of the medium-range lot, including the other Huawei ones: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9272&idPhone2ā¦
Nice phone the 3i, if only it had usb C and/or faster charging, better still both.
The Android Pie and EMUI 9.0 is good though, the Y7 Pro will stay on Android 8.1 and EMUI 8.2 with same charging tech only bigger battery.
Another phone worth looking at is the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite for about $320 It has specs matching or beating the Y7 and also has all AU LTE bands (1,3,5,7,8,28,40) including the less common band 28. Unfortunately the Redmi Note 7 Pro mentioned earlier seems to lack a few AU LTE bands.
Snapdragon 450 on a $300 phone?! You can get better phone for that price
Is this a deal or you need suggestion? if the latter then please post it in the Forums and you will get better responses
