  • My backyard gets slightly flooded in one area in heavy rain. About 10 cm. Is this pump suitable or does it have to be fully immersed in water to operate?

I would have thought a clean water pump would be better suited to emptying a water tank or pool. Would expect you would need a dirty water pump

    • one area? find THE lowest point and dig a hole. insert some PVC pipe which is large enough to have the intake head.

just have a fine micro bag/filter over the intake to stop crap clogging the pump

      • Cannot dig. It's a tiled area.

There is a drain but it's only around 15cm wide.

  • Can anyone help me.. I'm not sure what to buy to get a water feature running on a house we bought. Dirt gets into the pond water. It has to drive water up about 2m vertical through a 25mm pipe.

Do you need to buy a pump and a filter, just a dirty water pump, or what? Submersible or dry? I'd need to keep noise low. I tried looking at bunnings but am SO confused

Check out 'return pumps' or 'pond pumps' on ebay to get a better idea of whats available.
Submersible is cheaper and more 'plug and play' than dry/external.
Jebao make decent cheap pumps, they also have a DC line which is quieter than AC ones. Plus they are controllable.
You can use the attached sponge part to clear the water while pumping or just run it without. Most return pumps above 3000lph will have the beefier (25mm+) fittings.
Head height is what you need to look out for, 2m isn't a massive lift so you should be safe sticking with ones for aquairums/ponds. A lot of them will have a diagram showing how much throughput you lose against height.
The lph you need depends on the volume of the pond and whether you have any livestock but I would stick to ~5000 and up to make sure you've still got enough flow with the 2m lift.

      • Thanks, so much good info. It's just a water feature, no livestock :) volume is bugger all, around a few cubic metres and that's only if it was filled full height. It might be hard to even submerge some pumps. Hence wondering about dry vs submersible.. But I think the submersibles tend to be ok with very low water level and all but the cheapest had auto off for overheating.
"Sponge part" - that's just a standard filter on all pumps? This thing gets a reasonable amount of sand and small leaves in it.
Being next to the bedroom is why it needs to be quiet.

  • Dang I’m literally in the market for one of these to empty my kiddie pool. Wonder if they’ll price match in VIC

    • +4

Yeah. Other than needing something different for my pond I was thinking to use one of these to transfer water from the pool to the kiddie pool then back again, so that water wasn't wasted and we didn't leave water hazards around (one of my ex had a neice with brain damage due to a bucket of water being left on the floor in the house.. So I take this very seriously and hope this post saves someone else the heartache)

    • +1

they may price match for the exact same model, but often for store specific clearance they don't,, but YMMV

    • +1

Went to 2 stores in VIC but they have 6 in stock at Fountain Gate (VIC). Happy to price match, lady said it had been Ozbargained lol, nearly high fived her!

      Cheers OP!

  • So.. any stock in Townsville ?
