Thanks for the heads up. We use these as, effectively, pizza bases and add more toppings.

    • +1

That's wasting that Dr Oetker pizza (bc it's made to be cooked from frozen as it is), money ($3.75 per base) or/and time (just get Domino's at that price).

Of course, everybody to their taste. But since you shared.

      • +2

I still cook from frozen, I just add extra toppings, e.g extra vegetables, ham, etc.

        • I get it.

          More home-made pizza, and cheaper:
flatbreads, like Lebanese bread (they have 3-4 ingredients in total), tomato puree (or similar), olive oil and cheese. Use top grill setting. It's $1 per pizza or less plus your toppings. It's usually less than 8-10 all readable ingredients, depending on your toppings. The ingredients' milage is probably less than 15k. Compare with Dr Oetker.

@pizzaguy: Common sense would say not to question someone with the username pizzaguy. bows down

          • @pizzaguy: tbh lebanese bread as a pizza base tastes like ass compared to Dr Oetker (or even the most basic home brand frozen/premade pizzas and pizza bases)

            • +1

@Kingfield: Yeah, that is my point. All I need to add is extra toppings like vegetables or ham. I don’t need to stuff around with the tomato base, cheese, etc. Lebanese bread is a completely different thing to pizza bases. However, I do like lavash as bread for toasted sandwiches.

He's done at least 9 years of training to become a doctor of pizza, and it shows.

    • Needs doctor of philosophy in toppings - PhD (Piled Higher and Deeper)

I'm always a bit nervous when you combine "dr", "german" and "oven" together. (I'll see you guys again when I'm back from being banned).

  • Hasn't been the same since they moved it being made in Canada instead of Australia.

    • -1

Que - I think I'm hearing a whooshing sound here. "Made in Germany" at the Woolies site. Is this some "Man in the High Castle" alternate universe?

      • Haha

See the pepperoni. Used to be made in Australia. Now it's Canada. It changed the cheese and stuff.

        • ahhh, I was looking at the Spinach one.

      • +1

Some are made in Germany (e.g. mozarella version) while others are made in Canada (e.g. hawaiian version)

        • Obviously the German engineered pizzas are better.

          • @Diji1: They are. European cheeses make a big differnence. At every single price point they beat the quality we have here. Most obvious at the bottom end of the range which is clearly what frozen pizza companies use for their pizzas…

            • @team teri: Had a made in Italy Woolies homebrand pizza. Had grape dust on the crust. Can be surprising quality if you can get past it being frozen.

  • +1

Vic catalogue says excludes meat and gluten free varieties :(

The spinach topped with bacon is great, it's actually the only flavour we buy now.

      • +1

May have to try one with bacon and another with salami :)

        • +1

The mushroom one isn’t bad but we put more mushroom on it. The spinach one was good with extra capsicum, some ham and blanched brocollini.

    • What a shame, they've never done that before. pepperoni's the only flavour I get.

    • Bugger. It’s the best way to get gf pizza. You can’t trust the pizza shops.

  • +1

I’ve tried some of these before. The lasting impression was that this is how pizza will taste in 50 years… When everyone will be working from their 9square meter homes. Well, the word taste being used only descriptively here.

  • Loved the old imaging holding the slice of pizza with a folk… gets me every time!

    • +2

      Mushrooms is 16%. Source :Box.

  • anybody know what is the best flavour?

    • +5

      The cardboard box

      • Thank you for your contribution.

        • Think about how much these ingredients cost to make one of these pizzas and hence their quality. Your health is the one thing you shouldn’t compromise on.

Spinaci, Hawaiian and Pepperoni the only three worth bothering with.

    • Hawaiian is the best imo, I quite like their mozzarella one too but after finding the aldi casa barelli mozzarella pizza I much prefer it and it's always cheap.

      • Good point, I wish ALDI were more transparent with their prices online… it’s hard to compare

  • Got a few of the spinach ones on sale about a month ago, they tasted horrible. Im hoping it was a bad batch and not a sign that they've lowered the quality as a cost cutting measure.

    • I am pretty certain they've lowered in quality

    • To me McCain is way better

    • +2

Oetker is much better than the McCain pizza you linked to, much worse than the McCain Rustica range

Garbage product. How people rave and "highly rate" these pizzas is beyond me lol..

    • -1

      Agreed, they taste terrible.

  • +2

I used to rave about these but then I tried the Aldi pizzas and imo they're much tastier, more filling and their mid range brand Casa Barelli are always $3 something. Their gourmet brand Specially selected is really delicious too, it's my dad's favourite pizza ever, moreso even than fresh ones from the pizza shop.

In the Casa Borelli brand I love The Tandoori chicken and Mozzarella ones, specially selected I love the beetroot and goats cheese (dad's fave).

  • None of these were reduced in my local Woolworths last night (Glenelg SA)

  • +1

Only the Mozzarella,4 Cheeses were on discount at Brookeside.

    • Same

    • Yea it's not all of them apparently. I found that out after trying to buy a few then having to get an attendant to price check it for me.

  • +1

Only the vegetarian varieties of Dr Oetker's are on special according to the Woolies catalogue. Meat varieties are specifically excluded. Unless someone can confirm that they've gotten meat varieties at 50% off, I think the original post needs to be edited.

  • Only the veggi one on sale, the catalogue only said 4 favours on sale.
