Better offer was in mid of 2017 for similar cards (no annual fee first year)
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/316437

A Basic card so many should be able to get it. low minimum spending too. should be fine to get woolworth egift card with 5% off cashreward and then top up Opal cards and meet the requirement.
pro tip: during application it is better to specify credit limit, and select low amount (minimum is $500) unless you really want to keep this card forever (who wants????)

please use cash back exclusive link:

      • I'm getting the same, not sure whats wrong. I never did the $50 cashback Choice account, but i'm existing Westpac customer without any bank accounts for several years.

        • Hey, I did actually sign up last month and just got my cashback few days ago. I guess I logged out before signing in and it worked. Cheers.

How does this get 160 upvotes when this Citibank deal is worth 3 times as much (~$500 Coles gift card)??

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/438197

Yeh I know much more spend required, but who doesn't spend $1000 per month anyway.

    • That's quite a good deal, thanks. Also it's $1000 over 3 months so even easier.

  • Am I eligible for this if I have the westpac platinum card ?

    • I also want to know. According to the T&Cs, you are eligible but I suspect they will simply decline your application if you already have another credit card with them. Happy for someone to proof me wrong.

      • Nah, bank allows and like people to have multiple cards of their products. as long they are not the same card, and not on the t&c for a specific offer, then you will be fine.

  • Anyone knows if I can withdraw this statement credit (net amount) as cash from ATM without charges? Coz I intend to pay my balance in full and would have net $141 credit sitting in my card.

    • +2

      Cannot. just use it. Period.

  • So I've applied for this and been approved, gotten my card, etc. Am I right to purchase my new PC component from Amazon or do I need confirmation of the $200 cashback? Can't seem to see anything about it anywhere but here and the page this deal takes you to (where I signed up from). Thanks!

    • +3

That's normal they don't mention about the bonus again. Just spend the $400 within 90 days and wait for the $200 to appear in the account.
If the cash back is not received 60 days after meeting the spending, just call them to outline breach.

      • +1

Thanks man, will do! Time for a huge PC upgrade!

  • Thanks OP, just applied

How does applying for one of these and canceling its two weeks later impact credit scores?

  • +1

I'm a bit late but just applied. Said I will be notified within 1 day and I will have to go to a branch to prove identity? I prefer signing up for regular bank account offers, not credit cards but $140-$200 free it worth the extra hassle. Many years ago I had a Westpac card when I was 18, I spent it up to limit until it stopped working and never paid it off so it will be interesting if they approve it.

    • I did the identity verification online but they notified me that the card is in the branch so I have to go pick it up and show my ID again apparently.

      • I received an SMS today saying my credit card is approved and they will send me further information within the next 5 days. Hopefully I will not need to go to the bank.

  • Just applied and the page said they "can't make an immediate decision" and that they'll contact me for more info….anyone else had anything like that?

    • Approved a few hours after sending payslips.

  • Nice, got conditionally approved.

    • I was approved 18 hours after being conditionally approved so you should get approved before the 28th Feb cut off.

      • I think you just have to apply before the cut-off as the promo is entered at that stage. Yeah, got approved 2 hours after.

  • Thank you

  • Will a Paypal transaction qualify towards the 400 dollar spend for this offer?

  • Does paying bills, fines & rego constitute a fee/ cash equivalent transactions?
Or payment through AUSPOST Bill Pay?

    • better call bank and find out from them.
remember this is public forum. if someone say XYZ and bank say ABC, nothing you can do except regret.

      • +1

        Just confirmed:
Any government charges are excluded no matter if made at Australia post or directly.

Other bills if paid other than BAY, should be fine.

        • yeah usually all BPAY and Govs are no no.
utilities are fine (but still, not via BPAY)
only amex are fine with the above

          again, better confirm than sorry.
i remember one of the NAB CC deal, they were fine with BPAY. i called and the guy said he just got out from a team meeting discussing this topic and confirmed, BPAY is fine.

          • @CyberMurning: I forgot to ask PayPal payment if it is included in eligible purchases or not. One way you can pay government bills on Australia post website and pay via PayPal. The description is only Australia post on the statement.

            • @No ONE: not all government bills accept paypal/available on austpost website i think? depends how they setup. i think some in NSW only accept cash/eftpos payment at post office something like that. annoying

  • are existing westpac credit card holders able to do a product transfer to this card and get this offer? are there any Balance transfer offers of 0% for existing westpac credit card holders?

  • -1

Does any of you lovely people know if i can buy $400 worth of GC and get my cashback.

  • This…or stick with my price protection card?

I guess better to spend on perishables like groceries here..

  • I just checked my westpac credit card account today and noticed the cashback came through yesterday! Haven't been charged the annual fee yet either.

    • and this is after how many weeks from you have hit the $400 spending requirement?

      • +1

        Around 1.5 weeks

    • Maybe good time to cancel the card before you get charged the fee?

  • Applied and at the end of the application process, it said that my application will be personally reviewed and a decision made within 2 - 3 business days.

    • Got the same message myself a few minutes ago…

AussieDolphin - what happened to you after this?

  • Can confirm I got my $200 cashback pretty quickly, about a 10 days after i hit the $400 spend (definitely still well in my first cycle). Also can confirm no annual fee has hit my account.

    • damn mine already 12 days since i paid my CC off ($415)
will do online chat to ask if everything is alright.

      edit:
this is what the chat agent told me:
WOOLWORTHS GIFT CARDS BELLA VISTA AU purchase for $410 is in category of "cash/ cash equivelant transaction hence it is not eligible purchase based on above definition.

anyone else bought WW egiftcard but receive cash back (from this CC offer/deal)?

      • I don't think it's a cash equivalent transaction. I received qantas points for the transaction on my westpac platinum card so it must be an eligible transaction.

  • I don't have a credit card so not sure about the right credit limit. Should I go for a higher limit or a lower, please advise

    • +1

everyone different. if you want to keep this card forever then get higher. if you think you need $xxxx then ask that for your limit.
we cant tell how much you need, only you know

      • Thanks ChiMot

        • +1

no prob. credit limit is just that, limit of how much you can borrow.
how much you can borrow and still able to repay without struggling? that's the question for yourself to answer. also all credit limits from all credit cards you have will affecting your ability when you apply for the next credit (can be car loan, home, etc). they will be part of your "credit rating" thingie

  • Unfortunately my application was rejected. I've never been rejected for a card before — perhaps banks are being more stringent about lending due to the royal commission in to banks? Darn

  • 08 Mar $200 Cashback
15 Mar $59 Annual card fee

I'm an existing customer too.. will ring and check about that fee waiver they offered on sign up

    • +2

Update: Rang them and had the fee waived

      • i havent got the cash back but see the annual has been posted. what did you tell them to get the fee waived?

        • I asked them if they could confirm the annual fee charge as when I signed up it said the first year was waived. Was put on hold for 2 minutes, they confirmed that it was charged in error and they removed it no problem

        • I am in the same boat

      • I just did a live chat and they wouldn't waiver the fee. They said if I applied without the cash back then it would be waived.

Only problem is I haven't got my cash back yet zzz. Purchase was on 28th of Feb. They confirmed I'm eligible, just waiting for it to be paid.

        • -1

I did a live chat and they refunded me the annual fee. They said that it was special consideration however.

  • -1

I'm shocked that this is still so popular. One of the worse sign up bonuses around, and a bit of a waste of a credit check, IMO.

  • -1

I got cashback before the first statement was sent. Wondering if I cancel it now, will I be charged the annual fee?

    • i dont think so, quickly spend $200 pay the balance and close the account.

  • -1

I made minimum spend on 11th March which was 10 days after sign up. So it has now been 2 weeks since minimum spend made. I am still waiting for cashback and first statement. After reading here that some had received cashback I rang to ask if all was good with my purchases and that I had signed up correctly. I was told that I need to wait 90 days. Hope I get it sooner.

    • Me too.

      • +1

Ended up getting the cashback about 3 weeks ago. Paid the card off and have closed it now. Nice and easy $200 free money.

  • +2

Have received my cashback yesterday. Time to pay off the balance and close the account.

    07/03/2019 - Minimum spend met
    14/03/2019 - Annual card fee
    15/03/2019 - Card fee reversed
    29/03/2019 - Cashback received

    • -1

Is this your account activity statement? I can't see anything about minimum spend met on mine (I have spent over $400)

      • No statement will not tell you you have met or not….

        • Oh okay, sorry I should clarify. I thought this line was on your statement "07/03/2019 - Minimum spend met"

  • They wouldn't move at all on the phone. They said you opted for the $200 cashback, it's one or the other, fee waived or cashback. Very strong too, so you guys above must have got saints on your end of the chat lol

How do you start online chat anyway?

    • Chat option for me is in the bottom right when logging in. When starting the online chat the automated robot kept comming up. I just typed in "." until it asked me if I wanted to get transferred to a human. then i typed yes

      • Thanks, tried again in chat. They got cards team to review and said, one offer at a time. Fee stands. Tried twice, no banana.

  • How long does it take to get the cashback after spending the $400?

  • made a $400 purchase in Feb but still no cashback after my 3rd statement, time to get on chat

    • Let us know after, thanks

      • They said I should have gotten it so they escalated to the credit cards team for resolution. Just waiting game now

    • Me too. Just waiting for that 3rd statement. Quick to issue the annual fee, but take longer than 70 days and no sign of cashback.

      • Me three.. Talked to 2 on the chat and 1 on the phone who have said they will 'escalate' but nothing so far. Day 84 from spending criteria met

        • They have no clue. See my detailed response below.

  • Update:
Offer available until 26th June 2019. New cards only.

  • approved

easiest application process ever and fast turnaround

  • +1

Good news people. You can ring up and ask for a refund of the annual fee in full.

I got the card, spent the required amount, got charged for annual fee then received the cashback. Paid all the card debt - included the annual fee. All done within aprox 40-50 days since received the card.

Then two weeks later contact them via web chat and ask if I should get the $59 back because i closed on the 2nd month after got the card. The guy went away to verify for a while then confirmed me that the fee will be return into my credit card account. In do so, he also re-activated my CC account.

I now have to log into my Westpac account to request for a replacement card because I already cut the old one when I closed it.

Effectively, this is a $200 cash back deal with zero fee if you act quick.

  • Had to work hard to get my $200.

    1. Spend achieved 7 days after card activation.
    2. Credit not received within 60 days.
    3. Contacted the bank. Informed me I had indeed met the spend criteria and that it would be paid upon the next statement.
    4. Next statement passes with no credit.
    5. Contact bank again. Speak to 4 individual people (for over 30 mins) who all clearly have no idea how to help. The final person says they will send an email to correct person, who will contact me tomorrow, if not then definitely the day after.
    6. Four days later and no contact received.
    7. Call again and speak to one person who keeps me on hold intermittently for over 30 mins while they "investigate" what has happened. Again it results in "I need to send an email to X person."
    8. I get angry and state this is totally unacceptable, have wasted too much of my time and if the credit is not received in my account by the end of business the following day then I will be lodging a formal complaint with the bank and ACCC. Total time on phone 40 mins.
    9. $200 credit the very next day.

Not sure it was worth my time (though I made all the calls whilst driving…)

    • Gesus, need to bring ACCC… Shocking.

    • +2

Exactly my experience, almost mirror image. They said they escalated my case, should get it in a few days.

I told them, I want my annual fee reversed as you have wasted my time and lied. They reversed it as a sign of good gesture LOL

Wasted 1 hour of my time.

Worth it? Maybe, but never again will I go with Westpac, the worst bank. Absolutely useless.

  • i noticed my account says low rate visa card, I'm pretty sure i signed up via the link here. is this maybe why we're being shafted since offer page shows mastercard?

  • westpac customer reps make things up as they go along. they asked how I made the minimum spend I told them I made an advance payment to my internet provider and they reply with:

This the reason why you didn't receive any credit because the condition was for card purchases. And using the card for a payment is not considered as a payment.

lol I'm calling their credit cards department tomorrow

    • Don't stuff around, use point 8 by 102010 and be done with it. That's what I'm doing in two days if it's not credited in my account.

    • That sucks, I spent $180 on a WD 480GB SSD and a 2TB HDD on Ebay using the credit card to check out and it was fine.

  • I got meself paid!!! Bring on more signup bonuses.

    • What was the time frame?

      • +1

I was approved on 27th Feb, apparently it was paid before 21st April looking at the current paper statement from them. Just the current month statement from them I have only.

      • Sorry, actually It was paid on 24th May. I just signed up to internet banking to see the transactions. I spent over $400 on the 6th of May and cashback offer arrived on 24th May. So 18 days after being eligible.

  • Yeah, got mine today. Never again with Westpac. The only bank I had to follow up and then made it hell. At least they gave me my annual fee back. Terrible bank.

    • +1

Agreed. Thought I haven't had issues with getting points back from them previously.

The customer relations department ended up trying to call me a couple of times.
After I didn't bother to answer they sent an email explaining they had no idea why I didn't get my cashback.
      Yep, good bank…

  • damn just went to chat they cant help but ask me to call instead. hopeless.
and i counted today is 63 days after i met the minimum spend, but the girl said could be in the next statement (in july).

    well…..
