Albeit a slightly lower model, MLN offers a very competitive price for their Acer Aspire 5742G as located here:
    https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=1112

Although LFO offers a good price, I'm not sure a $234 price difference is worth the relatively unnoticeable difference in specs, listed below. The only gain I can see is a slight improve on what is an already mediocre graphics card, and a slight difference in CPU.

    5750G - $829:
    Intel Core i5 2410M 2.3GHz / 2.93GHz With Turbo!
    Nvidia GT520M, 1GB Dedicated Graphics

    5742G - $596:
    Intel® Core™ i5-460M processor (3 MB L3 cache, 2.53GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.80Ghz)
    NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420M with 1024 MB of dedicated DDR3 VRAM

bought this machine for $870 couple of weeks ago, returned the first one as it had 2 dead pixels and the 2nd one i couldn't be bothered returning as that one came with a dead pixel aswell.
Tried running ArchiCAD 14 on the machine with no success, keeps freezing at startup :( but works perfectly on my Dell Laptop… similar specs…

    I guess Acer sucks overall.

  • The GPU seemed to set this deal apart but notebookcheck.net describes the 520M as "only slightly faster" than the integrated HD3000 in mobile Sandy Bridge. The small edge in performance and driver quality may not be as much an advantage as better battery life, lower noise and reduced risk of heat issues or component failure from not having the discrete GPU. Models with comparable specs without the GPU can be found for a bit less, e.g. Dell Inspiron 15R for $799.

Just wanted to take the opportunity to say. SANDY BRIDGE!
I dont even really know what it means but seems to be spoken about frequently in Computer bargains :)

    • Hi Keef,

Sandy Bridge refers to a 2nd Generation of Intel Core i Processors, which offer up to 30% increased speed. In other words, it's the latest and greatest!

  • 2.9ghz… thats a damn fast clock speed for a notebook CPU if I've ever seen one.
