  • cnet review not all that positive… major issues being no 1080p playback, wont playback through ethernet port (so serving media via network not possible), poor remote layout, and wont record to USB (major issue when you fill internal hard drive).

but the above price is very compelling considering the 500Gb hard drive and reputable brand. for a basic pvr setup and decent hard drive space, not a bad deal… so kind of evens out for me. no neg and no pos.

  • Darn it, wish I hadn't bought one over the weekend. That's a great price!

  • One other thing to note - no IceTV support…but does support TAPS I believe

  • Will this one actually be a Topfield or actually Toppro like the last one posted here was?

  • My understanding is that Topfield is a brand of Toppro. Take a look at their website: http://topfield.com.au

  • Nice deal.
    Toppy ftw

  • Anyone used this website (Skimp) before… comments?

    • Nope, never heard of them.
      Bulk purchasing scheme.
Sounds like just what we're all after :)

    • yep!

bought a bosch dishwasher and a nespresso machine about 2 weeks ago. the quoted price back was way better than any price I could negotiate or find online.

it seems as if they do the legwork and then provide you with the best quote they get from a store. the store then rings you and organizes the payment and delivery.

      had no dramas. awesome service.

  • Also Loudah (being the rep) … what is the deal with warranty. If we get this from the unamed bricks n mortar supplier do they provide a proper warranty and return service if the item is faulty? How do we know if the supplier will even be in a suitable distance away?

Also how long does this offer last?

    • Seems that skimp organise the buy, but deal is with a named bricks & mortar (for this one anyway). This place is everywhere (well except here).
      Don't know about offer length.

      • Do you know the retailer?

        • +1

Unfortunately we aren't able to name the retailer until an order is placed as we are dealing with their commercial division. However I can tell you that they have over 100 stores in Australia and are a major electronics retailer. Hope that this helps.

      • So Skimp wont name the retailer but I presume aar (as a consumer) can? :)

    • +1

The warranty is with the retailer and the manufacturer (as normal). So all products come with the standard manufacturer warranty and optional extended warranty is available.

If there is a problem during the manufacturer warranty period then it is usually the manufacturer that you would deal with. This particular retailer also has at least 1 store in every capital city as well so they should be accessible for any extended warranty issues.

This offer is available until the 8th May.

  • skimp? on…

  • contact us? who is it? must be batman

  • fetbenslim wrote a comment above 1 post…ever

  • Skimp Pty Ltd 2009 hang on "If you choose to order, Skimp will connect you to the retailer offering this price to make your purchase"

  • maybe I'm unreasonable?

  • junglejumble I understand you are skeptical about Skimp - and why wouldn't you be, you've probably never heard of us. But we are a small web start-up, based in Brisbane. And feel free to use our form to contact us, we reply to everyone.

Plus we don't take payment for the product online, in fact you pay Skimp nothing if you want to make this purchase. You just have to give us enough information so that we can get the retailer to contact you. It's pretty low risk…

  • Has anyone been able to actually get this "Deal" I submitted my details, but no comms from the mysterious retailer!!??

      Hi Luke,

We have had a number of orders come through for this product. Sorry to hear that you haven't heard from the retailer yet. Did you receive an email from me after you ordered? Please email me your name and I'll check your order was received and make sure the retailer calls you tomorrow. You can reach me at louisa at skimp dot com dot au.

  • Lousia, email sent - thanks.

Yeah I got a call the next day, delivered couple days after.
Bit unhappy there was no packaging, just the pvr box, which had got squashed.
No damange to the pvr so it's all good.
    Looooving it. Great PVR.
Network file copy is good, just got to investigate the reported slow copies through USB now. Will try my 1 & 2TB externals on the weekend.

  • Thanks Lousia for the quick response, the vendor called me the same day - picked up also on the same day. All good - great customer service!
