  • Has anyone tried this? Did you get butchered?

    • +3

Yes and yes. Great if all you want is a buzz cut, have very little hair or willing to not leave your house for a week.

      • +5

It was good experience for me.. I have a long hair. It took 45 minutes of my time..Instructor did about 40% of the hair cut to demonstrate to the student.

    • +2

been for a fade and style cut on top and was fine. weight on top was a bit heavy for personal preference and took almost 90 minutes but they're being watched over by supervisors every cut they make you never feel like you are going to get a bad cut.

    • +2

      Kind of and no.

Had one at a different place and it was fine. Trained staff came around after to do a few little finishing touches. Took around an hour, so allocate a lot of time.

    • Yes. I didn't get butchered but it took her 90 minutes to cut my hair!

    • +2

Had the bottom of my ear cut off once, but in true ozbargain spirit.. I went back.
      Generally decent enough.

      • Had the bottom of my ear cut off once, but in true ozbargain spirit.. I went back

To get the other ear evened up?

        • In fairness I did say a trim off the sides..

  • +19

Can you see their grades first?

    • +1

No grades in TAFE, buddy. Just show up and pay the fees and you pass.

  • dang, i've been jacked for paying $10 at those F10 quickcut kiosk all these while

    Is this ongoing deal ?

    • Yes, deal in ongoing until management decides to change

    • +1

it's ongoing because this is early term so the students are getting hours and are not as experienced as if you went in 6 months. it's normally $10 in there when this deal isn't on

      • do they take eftpos ?

        • +1

          yeh EFT and cash

    • You'll find that the student learners cut better than those $10 ones in shopping malls lol

    • Not F10, but I've been to another $10 haircut place once, and they're awful. Once was enough, so now go back to paying $27

  • +4

A true OzB'er would've bought a bargain set of clippers posted on this site, which have already paid for themselves many times over.

  • +2

I've tried it once and actually liked it… it was $12 back then.. we now have the $10 haircut in towoong village and is preferred since you can get it done on the weekends as well unlike the school.

  • I have moved up to the Sunshine Coast (Currimundi) just recently, anyone know a $10 haircut joint up here?

    • +3

Now that you live on the Sunny Coast you don't need a hair cut. Let it grow out like everyone else.

  • Who needs ears anyway

  • +4

For those craving an adrenaline rush they do cut-throat shaves as well.

Relax…trainee's razor deals less damage. Source: years of playing RPG

  • I've seen free cuts for both men and women in Melbourne Polytechnic for a limited time. I think they just wanted head counts to finish the course.

  • +1

reminds me of that simpsons episode

  • Any equivalent in Sydney?

  • +1

Still going to be better than those $10 booth ones in westfields where they vacuum your head after

  • +3

Not cheapest.I cut my own hair. Get a decent shaver and use the attachments to help with blending. Eventually it's almost free

    • +1

I always do my own hair cut to save not just money but mostly my life.
Also I like my own hair cut more than those professionals', mine is more natural.
      * And, I trained my wife to do this for me.

      • +2

Wife is extremely helpful for fixing the back

  • Just be sure to bring your Sjambok in case they get it all wrong

  • Last time I paid $5 for a hair cut was 1994.
I hope we're not in a deflation spiral

  • Last time I had a 5 dollar haircut was from some vietnamese guy. He showing me something like this

^ asking me what number I wanted. I pointed to generic asian haircut number 3 and he was done within 10 minutes.

    Very efficient.

    • thats really odd as the headshots and the text is in korean

      • Yes that's correct. I couldn't find a vietnamese version so I found something like it.

  • Anything similar in Melbourne

    • +1

Check the nearest TAFE that trains hairdressers. Most usually do this. Also cheap drinks at TAFE when the hospitality students learn how to make cocktails.

  • Tried once, haircut was ok, but was in there at least hour during lunch break, so not been back
