jo malone again so soon? normally just pops up once a year but i'm not complaining ;)

the $8 cap appears to be the cheapest item if you need to pad your order to meet the minimum $100

    also, don't forget 5.6% cashrewards

    • Looks like there is a specific link for 'Online only' for the Jo Malone offer. Was this the case last time? Any tips on how to ensure cashrewards works with it?
      Thanks

Nothing interested… All overpriced brands, little cashback

    • in true ozbargain spirit

  • Fml…I bought my Valentine's Day present with Jo Malone last week and received it in the mail yesterday…

    • is jo malone better than viktor rolf? thanks

      • For sure! The Mrs loves their distinct scent

  • whats a good Amex CC with rewards program?

    • depends on your needs. I found Amex Explorer to suit me.
395 Annual fee, but you can sell the Annual Amex Travel Credit you get with the card for around 300 to offset it.
And I convert the points to krisflyer miles . (effectively 1$ = 1 kris PP from April)

      • there is a new 100k bonus point promo with PointHack at the moment (im planning on jump on). I wonder where the travel credit can be sold if i dont use it.

    • There is plenty of information already available to help you make a decision, both on this site and from other sources.

      • Well, generally the best value they say it to convert and use points to upgrade flights. Not really travelling due young kids atm. Points for charges on the recent small shop and 15% promo currently but still thinking best course of action for 200k points before the April change….anyone else?

Whatever you do make sure you look at the reward earn rates post April 1 as they are nerfing the redemption rates on most cards past this date.

In terms of general advice, for the earning of points many (not all!) of the Amex cards will differentiate into groceries, petrol, government and "other" categories in terms of point earning. It'd be worth having a fair idea on whether you do the bulk of your spending on groceries + petrol (in which case the Platinum Edge is a good option) or on other categories in which case the Explorer card might be a better fit as it leans more towards general purchasing.

A lot of the cards will have sort of flight lounge access or travel credit so worth working up if thats of any value to you. They also have fairly different insurances on the cards with some having buyer protection over price changes, others have screen cover for phones etc.

Personally I have a Platinum Edge myself however following April 1 I'm strongly considering replacing it with a Velocity Platinum which has a domestic return flight included and earns velocity points at a rate that'll probably exceed the Edge for me based on how points are earnt and the fact I always cash into Velocity anyway. The alternative option will be I'll keep my Edge and get the Velocity Platinum as well which gives me a high point earner for groceries + Petrol (the Edge) where the Velocity Platinum is then better for any other shopping. Will be a high annual cost to maintain the two cards though even if I will ultimately use the included flights and travel credit.

      • Thanks guys, Yes it's only general advice.

I'm looking for a replacement option when my Macquarie Hilton Honors card expires in May (Sad departure to the beloved credit card linked HH gold tier program).

For me, earning points is great and i may use the travel credit to book flights for parents/partner and apply additional cardholders so they can enjoy the AMEX lounges while travelling.

The main differences between AMEX Velocity Platinum edge and AMEX explorer is the annual credit whereby Explorer gives you as travel credit you can use on flights, car rental etc whereas Edge limits you to only book on Virgin/code-share flights.

        • Is your Macquarie card annual fee free? If it is, it may still be worthwhile to keep depending on what other cards you have. I think the Macquarie Rewards program is around 0.4% return

          • @forumninja: yes, no annual fee, so planning on keeping it in the draw till i need to use its benefits (i.e. no intl txn fee)

As an aside,I recently bought an $850 49" Sony TV from HN via OzBargain as the offer said "purchase a $750 Domayne Gift Card and get a $150 credit on your Amex"….finally got a reply from Amex today after some weeks with "you had to register your Amex for this deal"….WTF? The Ozbargain OP never mentioned this crap.Live and Learn eh?
