Yes yes yes I know, its "önly 2133mhz" ,

but unless your building a system with high end GPU do you actually need 3200mhz memory?

see here for the answer:

if you answer yes to all the below this kit might be a good option for $124 bucks delivered. and you can put the money saved into a slightly faster GPU.

1, Building a Ryzen CPU basewd system with a dedicated graphics card.
2, Planning to use a mid spec current gen GPU or older. (e.g. RX570-580, GTX 1060-1070)
3, Need 16GB to play the games you want.
4, On a tight budget.

For literally AU$4 more, I'd say this 2666Mhz kit is of far more value.
Any speed class difference up to around 3000Mhz has a noticeable impact on performance.

1, 2666mhz CL19 versus 2133mhz CL15, so wouldn't the real latency be lower on the 2133mhz kit? or doesn't that matter anymore?
2, I understood Flare kits are Samsung B-die, so "more" qualified for ryzen, though Bios updates have fixed most issues, still nice to know.
3, unless your rocking a 1080ti or higher there seems t be no noticeable impact on performance in most games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4k_ErEg-FU

Speed is more important than CL.

        For point 3

        https://www.techspot.com/review/1574-amd-ryzen-5-2400g-and-r…

This is obviously for the ryzen cpu's with built in GPU's but worth putting out there for the budget conscious

If you want to get the most bang for your buck you might be picking a 2200g. I bought one recently and I felt that the 2666Mhz kits were the sweet spot. (You might get lucky with these kits and be able to tweak them to 3000 or even 3200).

        1) 2133 C15 does have lower latency than 2666 C19, but 2666 C19 has higher bandwidth.

In computing, memory latency is the time (the latency) between initiating a request for a byte or word in memory until it is retrieved by a processor.
        ~Wikipedia

Most of the time, data is larger than a byte/word, so bandwidth matters more.

        2) I highly doubt that 2133 C15 is B-die.

        3) Higher frequency helps more when CPU bound.

Remember that Ryzen scales well with RAM speed due to its infinity fabric design. I wouldn't go below 3000MHz for Ryzen.

  • Are RAM Prices going to drop any further?

Holy Mackerel. What 3-4 months ago this would have been like $230+. I love that we are finally going back to how prices were

    • Problem is speed especially if building new PC as you want to make the most of the still costly CPU.

      • I know, but i just mean even these slow sets were costing that much, so its just good to see prices finally go back down.
I havent really looked but i assume faster sets must be having a similar drop (though wouldnt be surprised if its a slower one).
