I've got two of the smaller 450 turbos - they're great for their specific purposes (namely cafe sandwich labels, and retail barcodes respectively). Paid $120ish each for those, so this is a good deal given the sheer size.

Trying to make them more flexible/portable was a bit of a pain… we use iPads and Chromebooks, which neither have the capacity for native printing. I ended up hooking the Dymo to a Win10 stick PC to act as a Google Cloud Print server; this also gave me portability via wifi as well.

Thanks for this. How do you send the prints from the tablets to the cloud server? Does this happen via airprint or do you need to export them elsewhere?

      • Usually the Google Cloud Printer can be set as any other printer through chrome (chrome://devices) and then shared via your google account, its my only experience with it. So you would set that up on a chromebook with chrome and print from there. Not sure about iOS though but I know the native google apps always have it built in (even the iOS ones for per app stuff) :/

I setup the iPads to have a folder of PDFs, preset to our sandwich labels, in Google Drive. That means I can natively print via Google Cloud Print - staff only have to worry about setting the print quantity. This setup means the same process with a Win10 PC, or Chromebook; so the user experience is the same regardless of hardware.

The 'server' is a 1Ghz Atom stick PC with no monitor. Chrome installed, and shared the Dymo (as the default Windows printer) via 'chrome:devices' and added to the bakery default Google account, which is also used on the iPads. Chrome Remote Desktop for any maintenance, but once setup I've had almost no problems… mostly the wifi dropping out (which was a router hiccup anyway).

  • Thanks, just what I've been looking for!

  • What's the price like for replacement labels rolls? Aftermarket any good?

    • Was looking at one of the sellers on Amazon and some of the large shipping ones were about $18 for 200 labels. I think some 5cm X 10cm were $13 for a roll of 220.

Unsure of the quality though. Would like to buy DYMO branded but I'm sure there will be aftermarket that is just as good.

      • Given the price disparity, the Dymo labels are unsustainable… I've been using generic stickers without issue anyway. The problem I originally encountered was that there was TWO codes for the SAME SIZE stickers! SO a 11355 is the same as a 30330. That took a bit to realise at first.

I bought this label printer from Gumtree and since then have been buying generic-branded replacement labels from eBay. They work totally fine - it's just a thermal label. I wouldn't waste my money on Dymo-branded ones, to be honest.

Marked expired as no longer available through Amazon, lowest price is now $249 at a 3rd party seller.

  • When I went looking for labels I just noticed another price drop for anyone still watching: https://www.amazon.com.au/DYMO-Label-Writer-4XL-Printer/dp/B…

    • Nice pickup, I've posted it as a new deal with the new price!

      • Thanks yep seemed like a great price when I did a quick search everyone else selling for around 200-300.
