Hi.. good price for a mediocre drive… if you just want to use it for storage not a boot drive like i do you prob wont notice the difference between this and the top tier outside of benchmarks..

QLC is less durable and worse performing, but cheaper for them to make. To combat this they have an SLC cache (most durable and theoretically the fastest). It's also pretty slow for an NVMe drive at 1500/1000, though I'd imagine random writes wouldn't be terrible considering the cache.
Price isn't too bad all things considered though, a 970 evo 500GB for $110/120/135 like we had a couple of months ago is a much much better deal, but there's not a heap of better options around this price point at the moment.
Yep.. ive got the 970 evo as a boot drive and its awesome… managed to get a 1tb version while they were still in stock at low prices…
This is just a going to be a drive to launch games off…i cant justify the premium for the samsungs or wd's cuz i dont play games that often anyways…. got a couple of WD reds for the streaming and archiving stuff, speed is less important in that area.
Another thing to consider is if your using this drive to populate the 2nd m2 slot on your board, its prbably only a pci 2.0 X 4 slot… unless youve got some super expensive top end board.
That slot caps out at about 1500MB/s which is the top speed of this drive.. so a faster drive would be wasted in most second slots..
Also worth noting that some boards disable some of the SATA ports if you use the second NVMe port. In my case it's better to just have more, slower, SATA drives.
yep.. its gotta get that bandwidth from somewhere.. my board sacrifices the 2 fastest sata ports for slot one leaving only 4 ports.. and nullifies 5 pci express ports for slot 2, leaving only the 16x graphics slot functional… and zero pci e ports
Just installed and benchmarked… its a little more than twice as fast as a samsung 850 evo sata drive i have… but around 30 percent slower then the 970 evo i have…
All things considered im very happy..
Can you explain why it's "mediocre"? I assume poor random write speeds or something?
