You mean people have run out of DVD players from DS ? I'm still to use some
    .

    Also at Powerhouse Museum 🦖

But the BluRays will still be playable well after the content is gone from your favourite streaming or cloud movie service.

Plus, you can just head to your local library and get all the HBO content you want without needing to torrent or pay Foxtel for it.

Have you tried putting a 45rpm disc in your PC lately?

Services don't pretend to sell you something to "own".

        • +4

Plenty of online services “sell” movies, often for the same price as a physical disk. Yet the T&Cs indicate they can cancel the service at any time, revoking your right to watch the content you bought.

Meanwhile, streaming services constantly “refresh” content, meaning your favourite film or TV show can disappear at any moment.

Hence why I have my favourite content on DVD and BluRay. I can still watch content I bought 20 years ago, and I’ll still be able to watch it in 20 years time.

Oh, and I do also own quite a collection of LPs. But I don’t put them in my PC, I use a record player.

Thanks. Got one for the kids to watch their blu rays on.

  • Would this be better than using a PS4?

    • Yeah more energy efficient.
The first gen PS4 uses 65 (or 75 can't remember) watts, the PS4 slim and Pro would presumably use less, this Blu-ray player uses about 15 watts, though electricity costs about 30-35¢ per kilowatt.

      • +1

This is why I always use a stand alone machine

      • +1

Should mention the PS4 power usage I listed is when the PS4 is playing a Blu-ray movie.

    • +2

I'd say PS4 would have better video processing.

  • +1

    Why not just Bluray player?

Also anyone used this? Is it any good? Good enough for the wiggles I guess but to any discerning person is there a difference?

    Free shipping with Shipster.

Nice find +1 for being region free (DVD) according to https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2351198

  • Thanks OP, got one. for baby watching DVDs.

    • +1

Watching babies? Time to get a new hobby!

  • Are target doing a Kmart and not doing entertainment anymore?

    • Are there any department stores that are doing entertainment at all anymore? I feel like every time I walk into one, the most they sell in the section are paperback books.

      • +2

Bigw seem to be going bigger. I saw Sony TVs in there over the weekend.

  • I think the Thompson BR players used to come with a code to switch between region A B C, if they still do $30 seems like a steal.

    • +1

That is what I was thinking. Can anyone confirm? Or is it just the $99 Laser model Big W sell?

    • +4

One review on Target site says: The Thomson BDP-G2603B comes ready to play Zone B Blu-ray discs (e.g. discs from Australia), but its Blu-ray zone can be changed to either A, B or C. This is done in Settings > General > Security > BD Region Code.

      • Thanks did not see that. Purchased..

  • Thanks OP.
    Ordered One.

  • +2

Awesome, ordered one for my grandma

  • Does it support 4K blu ray and 3D movies?

    • No

        • 52 people disagree with you. + me as well so 53.

    • That's bad then plus my tv can't handle 4K so I'd be at 0 for 2 when it comes to 4k media.

  • Does it play videos through USB input from a Hard drive?

  • Region free?

    • No such thing as region-free blu-ray. But it can switch.

  • Must be older stock as Thomson became Technicolor a few years ago.
A good quality French brand though presumably Fabrique en Chine like everything else these days.
The standards have not changed so perfectly usable.
Region conversion is a sort of bonus given that regionless players just auto switch.
The only drawback I can see is res @ max 1080p
I'd say a great buy at that price.
As observed earlier; clouds have been known to dump their loads so a physical disk is still good to have.

    • This brand is no longer good quality, they just rebadge generic chinese stuff mostly. If a single French person worked on the Thomson stuff these days I would loase all the respect I had gained while watching the French soccer team.

Not knocking the deal though, if it plays blurays for 30 bucks then great

  • One left at Maroochydore as of 11am this morning. It's the display model but looks in good shape. Online it said out of stock, but I got the last boxed one, but there's still the display unit there.

  • 3 left at Northland Shopping centre. Can confirm region free dvd works

  • +1

    There are heaps instore

  • Can confirm all blurays can be played. You’re able to switch between codes/regions in the menu. Still plenty in my local store so phone and ask. I wouldn’t mark this as OoS.

  • Perth 3 still avail @ stirling central wanneroo rd
