  • this sounds super interesting… wonder if they work

  • ive seen similar before. They kinda just heat the chips, with an oil coating. I prefer the conventional deep fryer.

  • hmmm i also interested, love chips, hate oil..!

So has anyone got one or eaten chips made by one?

Edit: Found a review and its very positive but not sure about the credibility…check it out for yourself.

  • which fries the tastiest food without the oil.

so it doesn't use any oil ??? ie. it bakes not fries ???

    • That's right - no oil at all required. So technically not frying, but produces similar results to fried foods. You would use it for foods that would traditionally be deep fried e.g. chips, chicken nuggets etc.

You can see more info at the Philips website - http://www.philips.com.au/c/home-cooking/viva-collection-800…

      • looks tiny though…

can't see it feeding a family of 4… and if it takes 45 minutes… :O

        • After a bit of research (including a lot of internal debate on the weight of the average potato) I can tell you that the volumetric capacity is 2.2 litres and it can cook 800g at once. The average spud is around the 200g mark so you should be able to cook 4 potatoes-worth of chips!

Also, Philips say it takes only 15 minutes to cook.

  • My wife has a Tefal Actifry machine whch I think is along the same lines.

The chips are quite good, you do add a little oil or there would be no flavour at all. The chips take around 45 mins to cook from raw potatoes. If you need to cut down your fat intake and only compromise a little on taste it is not a bad system. Also the thicker the chips are cut the better.

    Hope this helps.

    • 45 mins? how many kilos? isn't that a bit too much time to just fry chips?

i normally oven them, takes me 15 mins or so… isn't that the same thing?

quicker and cheaper just to buy oven fries from the supermarket freezer…

(also, much better for the environment)

  • so its an oven?
