I understand you're a specialist battery crew, but $190 for the cheapest battery in your range may be too much for the average joe

you obviously aren't the intended audience

specialist batteries for the audio and high performance crowd often start at $300+

optima make better batteries than odyssey IMO

  • I am interested to know what exactly makes a battery a "performance" battery? What does it do? Power your flux-capacitor?

Not a expert on these but know a few benefits (so correct and of this if wrong). These are AGM batteries which use gel rather than just a acid solution inside so that they can be used on their side/upside down which may be useful if you have a dual battery setup/battery moved inside the car etc.

They are also deep cycle which means they don't mind being brought to low charge, do this to a normal battery a couple of times and it's dead (something I've experienced a couple times). This is useful if for some reason your battery becomes discharged often, such as if you often have in car entertainment/sound systems playing or a fridge or something running with the car off.

AGM batteries are pretty much standard for car audio enthusiasts as smaller batteries are not able to handle the current draw. Too small a battery results in the sound system under performing and your lights dimming when ever you get to some bass.

Looks like there's also benefits of weight savings with AGM batteries of same CCA to normal lead-acid from reading the site. May be important to you if you're trying to shed ever extra kilo of weight in your car.

Fair enough. So with one of these batteries I can run my 18 speaker sound system and drive on the ceiling :P

i dont care for car audio at all but all those car audio dudes running heaps of subs and massive amps use these batteries

also people who do 4wd-ing and run fridges and TVs and whatever off their campervans use them

so do emergency vehicles who may need to power computers, scanners and medical equipment and what have you…

also anyone who runs a battery on a boat may wish to use something better than a $99 century from kmart… god knows if i'm 20km out at sea and i wanna start my motor i'd trust a military grade optima over a $99 unit… hey its only life and death we're dealing with

lastly people who run high performance cars may wish to save a few kg by using lighter batteries

          Porsche charge $1,500 for a battery that's like 7.5kg in their GT3

life isn't as simple as the $99 battery you use in your Hyundai to get to work

  • Don't know if you have priced a battery recently, but the prices have increased substantially. Even the cheap ones are not so cheap anymore.

I buy better quality batteries and one benefit is they tend to have a better life span. My last Delkor battery lasted 9+ years.

Standard, cheap batteries are lucky to last 2 years. Usually just after the warranty expires.

We also have an Optima battery and it has been flogged in a car with high power audio and it just keeps going.
