  • I've got the same and was going to post but the link t&c's doesn't mention anything about the 15% and what it's actually off

  • This will be good as ive been waiting to pounce on a purchase for trs at end of the month!

  • +1

    T&C here: https://pages2.ebay.com.au/plus/terms-and-conditions3

"The 15% off sitewide coupon will be sent via email and/or eBay Message Centre within 48 hours of signing up for a free 30-day trial of eBay Plus during the Offer Period."

"Redemption. To redeem this offer during the Offer Period, enter the redemption code AUPLUSJAN15"

    • Just applied now. Haven't received the coupon yet. Hope it doesn't take the max 48 hours from signing up.

  • +3

Someone tell me this includes car parts!

    • It excludes them unfortunately.

    • +1

I read that as car pants

      • +8

        Thank you. Niche market exposed.

      • I would like to approach you with a business venture I think you will be highly interested in.

    • +2

I have no idea why they hate us car part buyers. I'm looking for alternatives to eBay now for car parts.

      • +3

Let me know if you find anything good for subies!

      • +4

Could be some shadow arrangement with all the big car parts stores (even the ones not yet on eBay) Some sort of Officeworksesque arrangement.

        • +2

Well it's driving me away from eBay. I'm buying less and less from them out of sheet resentment, and the prices aren't that great anymore either.

  • +1

So this is only for newly signed up members?

    • +40

Yep - seems like their budget is being spent on new members and not doing much to retain the ones already signed up!

      • +6

        🙄

      • +62

exactly why im not renewing after this year

        • +7

Felt this is a scam, had absolutely no benefit so far.

        • +12

Exactly why I've just cancelled my ebay plus today - voting with my feet! By cancelling now, you'll still get the "benefits" until your renewal date, but it won't automatically renew.

        • +5

I've just cancelled it. Have it till mid-August.

The only benefit I got was around a 10% discount of eBay plus items, and I think I only saved a few dollars there.

        • +5

Just cancelled as well; 'benefits' will remain in place until the end of the paid-up subscription.
          Send a clear message!

        • +4

Lets send a message to ebay by cancelling all our plus membership.

        • +2

          Cancelled mine too.

          • @Logical: Was going to cancel anyway. So took your lead and cancelled too so they might get a message.

            • @unifex: Ditto, just cancelled. Pity they didn't leave a blank box for members to provide the real reason for cancellation. You want the truth Ebay? "You can't handle the truth!"

              • @[Deactivated]: Shaft current customers just to get a few more on?? Stuff that! I left Optus for the same reason and I just cancelled my ebay plus renewal too. I hope it was worth it for Ebay and they got plenty of new customers because I see this move losing them a hell of a lot of members and it's evident in the comments of the many deals that this code covered. They'll be lucky if they replace the members they lose. It's straight up idiotic to pay for Ebay plus and not get all of the Ebay plus deals. If you stay on as a member you're only encouraging this type of behavior imo.
I completely agree about the real reasoning too, I wish they had "other" available and you could comment on why you are leaving. They obviously don't care enough to get the real reason which is another reason we should all cancel.

      • -8

This promo is to bait new signups as an alternative to previous incentives of google home and $ vouchers.

Nobody would be whinging if the offer was structured as a fixed reward instead of a % discount.

It just seems "unfair" because ppl have gotten accustomed to % discounts being available to everyone, but if you view this specifically as a signup promo you will realise you havent missed out on anything had they simply made it a $20-$50 voucher

      • +5

Wow, this must be a kick in the teeth for existing eBay Plus members.

      • How new is "new"? I signed up for the free 90 day trial not long ago.

        • I would also like to know this. I'm still on the 90 day trial.

    • +4

I also just cancelled my membership, another disgusting company giving nothing to paying members.

      • +4

I will absolutely be cancelling. Apart from the sign up bonus it's practically useless.

  • Got excited thensaw Officeworks is excluded 😅

  • +23

    So… Nothing for existing members?

    • +17

no they dont care for existing. thats why i dont loyal to any companies/stores/banks either

      • +3

You talk about loyalty as if there's an alternative to eBay.

        • +3

          Aliexpress? Amazon?

          • +3

@choboko: Aliexpress is completely different and serves it's own purpose, and Amazon isn't quite there yet.

            • +3

@magic8ballgag: Isn't quite there is the understatement of the century imo (still 81 years to go though).

          • @choboko: But their crap eh? (Canadian)

  • +40

eBay plus has really not worked out the way I thought it would. I signed up to eBay Plus for two reasons:
1 occasional reduction in shipping as I live in the NT
2 assumption of unique and better offers (ie codes like this one)

But now I've tried to use the code as an eBay Plus member and no dice. Postage wise half the sellers don't ship bulky stuff to the NT anyway!

Most of the emails I get from eBay still encourage me to sign up to eBay Plus like they don't even care that I already gave them money?

It'll need to radically improve for me to pay for it again.

    • +4

As a Darwin based person, I understand your pain and frustration.

      • +14

        Yep, eBay Plus sucks.

    • +4

I don't blame the sellers at all, outside the auspost satchels shipping to WA is extreamly expansive.

      • +3

save 50% on house prices vs sydney

    • +8

Yeah, they botched it. First they got greedy and started charging selling fees on postage, which pushed everyone to factor the postage into the price so the listen could change to Free Postage!

Which makes paying for a Plus account very limited in use.

      • +1

its because sellers were making stuff 90% postage cost, item 99cents

        • +1

That was the reason given to.. I have to think up a polite way to say 'dumb and naive people who lap up generic excuses without thinking them through logically'… but it really wasn't big enough of a problem to justify such a big change. Aside from sellers of samurai swords in china listing cheap blades for $1 with $99 shipping, it rarely happened, because of all the complications it raised.

Truth was ebay just wanted more money. Same reason for everything they have done, from raising fees to putting advertising on the site.

    • +1

It'd be really smart if they actually showed how much I'd saved on postage. Should be easy to do.

  • +29

I can't believe they've limited this to 'new signups'. What kind of money would they lose offering it to the existing users that have already paid to be a member of this useless program? Unbelievable.

    • +2

Can you just create a new ebay account to take advantage of this? Asking for a friend.

      • +5

Of course you can. I've signed about for about 5 ebay plus trials over the last 12months.

The are many benefits of having multiple ebay accounts beyond this trial offer.

    • +12

What kind of money would they lose offering it to the existing users

      15%

      • +4

        This guy knows.

    • +2

This is exactly why I've been boycotting eBay the past couple months. No eBay plus deals, car parts excluded, awful discounts and minimum spend goes up with every "deal". The $5 off yesterday I didn't even want to use out of spite. Until they start going back to the way it used to be or start offering much better deals. I won't shop there again. Reminds me to cancel my eBay plus membership!

      • can u buy me something since youre not going to use the $5 credit?

need to buy a screen protector for my phone =)

        • screen protector doesn't meet the minimum spending requirements for the $5 voucher.

      • +1

I have cancelled it today, your benefits will remain until your subscription expires anyway, you don't lose anything canceling now. It merely ensures you don't get hit with the auto-renewal
        Send a clear message!

      • -7

        Ahh, classic self entitled rant.

        • +5

Yeah imagine me not being happy paying for an exclusive membership that has no deals or pricing advantages compared to normal. Now only for new members joining they get a discount. Can't imagine being entitled to an actual eBay plus deal because I know it will never happen!

      • +2

You missed the biggie - Ebay's failure to police consumer law and stop sellers (like First Choice Liquor for eg) from significantly boosting prices to cover "discount" sales.

  • didnt work for me on one of my other accounts

  • +41

OOF…. They have quite the nerve to have this offer only for new plus members and not existing.

Definitely will be cancelling my eBay plus subscription, what a bunch of clowns.

    • +1

I signed up last August when they had google mini promo with signup. I still havent received it yet. Come next August Im doing the same.

      • +3

I did the same and it never turned up also. I contacted there customer support and it turned out the google home was sitting in the post office waiting for a pick up. Never got contacted or sent shipping number or anything.

    • +1

i signed up during the $50 voucher for ebay plus signup promo

due to the delay they gave me an extra voucher

and ive since only purchased ebay plus items whenever possible which came in useful because theyve given me free replied paid postage labels for 3 of my returns.

So far im up ahead. customer service is great too, only issue is lack of exclusive discounts as everyone has said

but this promo is to bait new signups as an alternative incentive to google home and vouchers. You wouldnt complain if the offer was a fixed reward. just moaning cause its structured as a discount

  • would this work with POOLTIME 20% off code?

    • Redemption. To redeem this offer during the Offer Period, enter the redemption code AUPLUSJAN15 into the redemption code box during the checkout process before 11:59 PM (AEDT) on 28 February 2019. This code cannot be used in conjunction with any other eBay offer, coupon or voucher. You can only use the redemption code once during the Offer Period.

      Nope, as outlined in T&C's

      • Gift cards should stack though, right?

        • +1

Yep, you can use 1 promotion code and up to 7 gift cards per transaction.

          • @skido: Good time to use my 15% gift cards purchased from ebay UK.

    • Ebay only has one box for promo codes. You can never stack them.

  • +11

Nice, no benefits for existing Ebay Plus members -_-

    • yeah Plus has been totally not worth it. Very few items I buy are ebay Plus items. The free shipping, quite a lot of sellers already do that.

Which leaves Plus exclusive promos. I've only seen one, which was the introductory one, and then on ebay's 19th birthday event there was a further discount on select discounted items.

I canceled a while ago. I don't think it or Prime are worth the money.

      • I like prime, my neighbour uses the video app, i get free shipping and amazon go out of their way to help you if there is an issue.

  • +13

EBay plus for existing members at least, is a joke - will be absolutely cancelling it when the time comes.
    Ridiculous

    • +4

      You can cancel now.

      • Why would I do that? I've already paid $50 for the membership, no way I'm ripping myself off of even more of my subscription fee by cancelling early…

        • +16

Cancelling doesn't void your membership. It just doesn't renew at the end.

          • @BradH13: Thank you.
I've just cancelled and the 'benefits' will remain valid until the end of the subscription

          • +2

            @BradH13: Ahhh the plot thickens.
            Done and done!
            Thanks friend

    • +1

I've found it good value, mainly because I've purchased a number of large sized big ticket items, they didn't live up to expectations and I've returned them for free.

But I must admit ebay has done a very poor job at communicating the postage savings being offered, which is the primary benefit.

Amazon prime which includes prime video and only $10 more, is certainly better value though.

  • Finally there’s something decent until that new customer thing comes in.

  • +8

Well, this a kick in the balls.

  • +2

So newbie to eBay plus…..I looked at an item last night( which is still the same price today), joined the Ebay plus to use the 15% off code, and the prices are different on eBay and ebayplus!!!
Same company same product, dearer on eBay plus
