Hence this deal expires 31/3, pretty sure it's their financial year end deal, so I assume these are best deal they are offering now, HN is offering 10% off or sometimes offer $200 GC, it definitely sweeten the deal.

  • 30GB is per month or for 24 months?

    • Per month

      • That is good. The call centre told me that it is for 24 months.

        • +1

You get 30GB of data per month. The contract locks you in for 24 months.

  • +2

iPhone XR 64GB for $84 / mo with 100GB is also pretty good! That works out to be approx $32/mo for 100GB (plus the handset).

Also $106.25 for the 256GB XR and 200GB is pretty good!

    • -2

XR is inferior to X by almost all aspects. Could not recommend anyone buying it.
IMO, XR is a shame Tim Cook give out to customers considering the sub full HD resolution, ugly bezel and thickness (thickest iPhone since iPhone 5), although A12 is a beast but not a big deal as A11 on X is already good enough.
It would be much better if offering X with the current pricing of XR.

      • +3

        Woah personal preference….

The A12 means it'll last longer (future iOS releases).

The screen is perfectly fine (my wife owns one). Ugly bezel wtf?

AGreed, it is thicker but has a bigger battery, Apple claims it's the longest lasting iPhone I'm pretty sure.

It also has a bigger screen which is preferable to some.

Inferior my arse, it's just different and has different pros/cons to an X.

        • Tell me you will pick XR instead of X if they are same price.

          Battery specs here
iPhone XS: 2,658mAh (versus 2,716mAh on the iPhone X)
          iPhone XS Max: 3,174mAh
iPhone XR: 2,942mAh (versus 2,675 on the iPhone 8 Plus)

(slighly) higher battery capacity of XR (than XS) does not result from thicker thickness but larger size and the old LCD display with low resolution that consumes less power.
It's like you prefer a 55" HD TV to 4K one to save some electricity. Apple gave it a fancy name "liquid retina", wtf is it? It's just normal sub-full HD LCD with 4 rounded corners even not comparable with iPhone 8 plus. Sub full HD on a 6.1" screen that costs over $1200, that rubbish is only made for sheeple. IMO XR is just another iPhone 5C. The lesson has never been learnt.

I understood you are after XR but I would regret if you already bought it 'cause XR price will significantly drop very soon (via resellers). Apple now storing tons of XR as they expected higher demand, now desperately to sell it of course not with current pricing.

All in all, I appreciate Apple engineers who work hard to made the best phones out there but the pricing of Tim Cook is just ridiculous.

  • Has anyone been into Harvey Norman yet to check if they can get 10% off these plans?

    • +4

Yes, signed up this morning @ HN

      • Yep likewise girlfriend signed just up with iPhone X. They got stock in from another store by lunchtime as they were out when I went in at 9am. Did a half price case as well. Good deal!

        • Did you port in from another provider? Or existing optus customer?

    • Signed up got the 10% discount plus a scree protector worth $39 and they put it on instead of me buggering it up!

  • +1

What docs does HN usually need to port the number across? I am with Optus at the moment, and will port the number to a prepaid Voda then want to move back pretty quickly. Do they need a statement of some sort from Vodafone (which I won't have)? It's been a while since I did a post-paid sign up + port-in so can't remember what is needed

    • Am interested in this as well

    • If you are prepaid you just need your DOB and the phone number. Postpaid you need the billing number

  • Is 5G coming to Oz soon? Worth waiting ?

    • +2

I don't think so, unless you are the type of person who keeps a phone for 5 years or more and want to future proof a bit. 4G does everything well for the foreseeable future.

      • Unless my current phone dies soon and/or i cannot get replacement batteries for it anymore then i shall welcome 5g enabled phone as my next upgrade.

  • I got a 1.5 year old Galaxy S8, is it worth to upgrade to Pixel 3 or S9?

    • Nope, better off waiting for the S10 or next Pixel.

The S9 slightly better at gaming and has dual speakers , thats a plus!

      I just think you're better off waiting just a little… longer…. :)

  • Google pixel 3 or Samsung Galaxy s9? Decisions huh. Also do you guys know if Harvey Norman will do shared data pool and also add in the Optus entertainment extras?

    • S10 ;-)

      • Prob won't come out till end of March/April and start of expensive

    • +1

S9 gets you also 1 year free nextflix. Hn should be able to do data pool and the rest

    • S9 hands down.

      headphone jack, Sd card, WQHD.

Alot of people diss Samsung, but they still provide 3.5mm jack and sdcard slot, and there software isn't what it use to be. (*That's a good thing)

    • Yes if you port multiple numbers under the one account you can data pool. Confirmed this at Harvey Normans yesterday.

  • Great prices.
But seriously, if you have a problem - just walk in store. You won't get an answer any other way.

I chatted to Telstra online sales today and managed to get the Pixel 3 64gb down to $79 pm (from $89 pm) for 20GB data over 24 months for an existing Telstra customer but had to mention I already have home internet with them. Tried instore but they said.they couldn't do it.

    • +1

Standard Telstra offering (via live chat) is a $10 discount and 5GB bonus data, they won't do better than that. The closest deal to this on Telstra is the S plan, which works out to be $69/month with 8GB (3GB + 5GB).

Optus is much better value atm, especially if you get the HN discount.

  • Might be a silly question, but when the 24 months is up, can you switch away from Optus to a cheaper prepaid deal?

    • Of course you can

  • +1

Has anyone successfully stacked the student discount with the HN discount yet? Thought the student discount had to be applied when checking out on the Optus website?

    • I would like to know too. That’d be awesome! I can see you can get these plans already with 10%off online with Edu email. You can also potentially add a second sim @$15 a month (with 4gb) and you could share the 30gb.

  • If you have two of these plans on the same account is it $10 off "each" plan or $10 total?

    • I think it’s only 2nd plan

  • Porting from Lebara to Optus should be alright?

  • I am currently with Optus. My contract is finishing on 25th March. I am happy to port out on first week of March then port back to optus after couple of weeks.. how long I have to be with another provider to get back on to optus for this offer.. thanks

  • Great deal, the S9 looks much better then the Pixel 3 IMO
I'm waiting for S10 before upgrading the S8…. +1 for a good deal OPTUS :)

  • Does anyone know if I port out, then port back to Optus if it can go back on my shared account? I data share with my partner and Mum….

    • Yes, you can, as long as under same account holder name

  • Why port out when you can just switch to pre-paid?

I'm highly interested in this plan too and noticed that when I select
    -iPhone 8
    -I'm with Optus and
-Upgrade my Prepaid to a Plan

    it says underneath
"Are you a Prepaid customer? Keep your number and switch to a new phone on a plan"

My current plan expires in a couple of days so I think I'll change to a pre-paid plan for a week (since deal runs out 3/2/19) then "upgrade" to this plan.

  • Mate 20 Pro is the best in my option. It beats S9/iPhone X/XS/XR MAX in every aspect. Especially in battery, camera and signal. Extra long battery life and 40W Supercharge will let you never worry about charging. 15 min charging can hold one day usage. Leica Tri Camera lens are normal, wide-angle and aperture lens while S9/iPhone has NO such lens and ability. Huawei is telecom company, it develops its own baseband chip. But Apple uses Intel baseband not Qualcomm, cannot get best mobile reception.

12 months Standard Netflix subscription ($13.99 x 12 = $167.88 value) available for Samsung phones. I got it today through webchat.

    • Only exclusive for Samsung handsets only?

  • So unfortunate it's not for existing customers :( Will definitely try HN although with no hopes.

  • So I was an exisiting customer with contract expiring in April 2019. I was able to sign up to this via Student Hub (with additional 10% discount). I was skeptical but I just got an SMS saying the order has left the warehouse. Quickly jumped on chat and they confirmed I won't be charged any early exit fee as I was already eligible to re-contract!

    • Was the existing contract sim only?

      • +1

        No wasn't a sim-only plan, I was on a 24 month plan with phone.

  • Is the Optus network still considered to be average? Or has it improved over the last few years?
I've only ever been with Telstra but these plans are pretty attractive!

    • Optus network is pretty average though. If you are not focused on the network speed, it is ok to switch. Probably better to get a optus prepaid kit to try the coverage and speed in your area. $9 for $30 prepaid kit in Woolworths and $10 on their website right now.

    • I've been with Telstra for the past 2.5yrs their reception has been frustrating at times and I live in the Metropolitan area. Even as of today, I get 1 bar at home, I ordered an Optus prepaid SIM and I get 3 bars in the same room. 4g data speeds has also been better thru Optus than Telstra. I've already been thru the ombudsman in the past so for me I have no choice but to port and so this deal came just about the right time

  • Kogan 365 plan runs out this week. Can't decide whether to get this now or wait for another $400/$200 bonus eftpos offer. Decisions decisions…

  • If my optus plan has expired can i terminate and sign up for this plan?

  • +1

I can confirm that harvey norman have 10% discount on 24 month phone plans till the end of this month. Went to the store at Auburn today.

    • Do you know whether they can stack on this $59 deal?

      • Yes they can stack on any 24 month plan.

  • +3

Can confirm that I was able to 'upgrade' from a 12 month Sim Only plan to this using student hub with 10% off. Personally works out good for me as I needed a new phone and is slightly cheaper this way than buying outright.

  • Just got an iphone x from HN at Garden City - I had the salesman Tony help me. He was an absolute 10/10 from service and helpfulness perspective.

Can confirm the 10% further discount was applied for new numbers.

Thanks OP for posting this deal!

  • +1

Current Optus customer - Good news!

Rang Optus - Asked about the $59 promo for S9 and He quickly mentioned that its only for either pre-paid or new number only.
I then asked how much will it cost to go onto pre-paid as my contract has long expired - He then voluntarily said, that will work and won't cost anything more to move my current plan to a pre-paid then wait one hour and ring him back to sign up for the $59 promo. He was just not allows to suggest that upfront but was quick to give me a solution anyway as his manager screens the call LOL

However, I then asked if he will match HN's 10% he said he can't

Now anyone who has a optus pre-paid manage to get further 10% from HarveyNorman?

  • +2

Can confirm that I was able to get both 10% off from HN and another 10% off for being a student. Pixel 3 for $48/month is a pretty sweet deal!

    • Did you get the student deal via applying to account and online, chat or in store? Thanks in advance

      • +1

        Through chat after signing up.

        • Awesome thanks for update!

    • managed to score the same deal. super happy!

  • None of these plans hv any international minutes and extra $10 makes it more expensive and not worth it.

I m on optus SIM only plan for $30 and includes 300 international min and 30gb data which is a perfect plan for me.

$59 plan wd b perfect if it had some international minutes making phones like S9 for $696 over 24 months.

    • +1

If you go through Harvey Norman you get a 10% discount taking contract to $53.10 a month….if you know anyone with an edu email address…you can get another 10%…$47.80….then add in international minutes for $10 and you’re still paying sub $59.

      • Wait, so all you need is an edu-ending email to get the student discount?

        • +1

Through Optus website, enter email address into student portal, you’ll get sent a code. If you are signing up online, you then just apply code. If you go to Harvey Norman for extra 10% off, HN cannot apply code, you need to speak to online chat (post signing new deal), and tell them you have student code, they’ll apply it to your account

      • +1

Just chatted with Optus online and you can't get the 10% student discount on any of these deals. I called Harvey Norman about the 10% new Optus customer discount and they said they weren't sure and had to check.Did you check this out yourself?

        • Yes you can - I've got it.

        • The person at Harvey Normans perhaps isn't aware but the 10% off plans is active.

    • Agree. Would have been great if they include the international minutes in this plan

  • +1

Can an upgrade from optus SIM only-no contract be done to get one of these deals or do I have to port out?

  • I mean if i upgrade through HN to get 10% off?

  • +3

Confirming I signed up for an iPhone X at HN and got the 10% discount. I then went on chat and got the 10% student discount too.

    • Thanks mate!

  • It looks like Optus have removed the free 12 month Netflix subscription from the Samsung phones.

    • Hey, it wasnt removed, it was a promotion that expired on the 20/Jan. Just like the headphones one that expired.

    • Surely they will have other promotion up as S10 will be announced next month.

  • Harvey Norman salesman swears its 10% off the plan only and not 10% off the whole plan (including handset)

    Ie
$74/month for Huawei is only $5.90 discount as the plan itself is only $59/month

    Can anyone confirm?

    • Yes. Only the plan itself. Not include headset repayment

      • Conflicting information, I went and signed up on Saturday for the pixel 3xl and the s9+ (both of which comes with a $10 handset fee bringing the total to $69p/m. I was told by HN (and confirmed by Optus over the phone) and had the 10% applied on the $69, which brought both plans down to $63.10

As Saturday was Australia day, the porting department was closed, and Monday being a public holiday, I was told I need to come back on Tuesday to finalise the process.

  • Hi guys when does the 10% off at Harvey Norman run out?

    • I was at optus store and was able to get 10% off the same as HN. Just told them HN do 10%on new service, and they agree to do the same

      • It may be dependant on the rep or even store as the one I went to won't budge on matching HN, won't even throw in a few accessories. Ended up going to HN and got a bunch of free accessories

        • +2

My experience with HN is sh*t.

  • For Perth WA, just signed a Pixel 3 yesterday at HN in Osborne Park and got the 10% off so $53.10p/m along with a free case thrown in. The $59 deal seems to end on the 31st of March on Optus's side but the the HN staff were unsure when their 10% off would end. I needed to have my driver's license and Medicare card to port over (other ID might work) and had to speak with an Optus rep to do a quick credit check and go through some terms and conditions.

I would say leave yourself at least an hour to give yourself a quick browse and allow for time to complete the contract. The HN staff also recommended to not come in Sunday as some Telco's are closed and the port will either not be possible or very difficult to do on that day depending on which carrier you're with at the moment. Good luck Ozbargainers!

    • Did you ask for the case?

      • No I didn't, they offered it. If they don't offer it I'm sure you could ask and see what they say, would depend on the sales rep.
