  • Shouldn't delivery be free if over $49?

    • If you have prime. Prime is $4.99 this month so guess that's the cap for what you have to pay to get it shipped.

I thought that only applied to items coming from Amazon US?

Nvm,it is from the US. he just didn't mention it.

@Fatboy74: Why are you offended for someone else?

            • +3

@smasha01: Not at all offended. Just a thought.

@Fatboy74: Your binary representation of gender is offensive. Not to me, but I've got to appear offended to get me some social brownie points. Good deal though.

                • @Daabido: Hahaha that’s the spirit.

Thank you Daabido for your kind support. I cry a river every time I see binary representation of genders. I belong to the extremely small minority of severely oppressed people who sexually identify as attack helicopters.

My erstwhile aunt Mil Mi and Uncle Kamov Ka would have brought you a coffee if only they were not dead. They died in action in the Genderistan war.

                  Best regards,

You're right. I should not have assumed their gender.

    Your move Officeworks.

Ooh this could save me $4.99

Has anyone had any success getting Officeworks to price match Amazon? Is it one of those things where it depends on who you talk to, their understanding of the policy and if the planets are lined up while tapping your head and rubbing your stomach?

      • Staff: "We only price match stores that have a physical shop front" :S

        • +3

"Our Price Beat Guarantee includes products you find online - as long as the item is identical and in stock. When assessing the PBG from online stores we also take into account the added cost of delivery to your location (if any). If the identical, in stock product can be purchased and delivered to your location via an online store for a total price lower than the one we are offering, we will beat that total price by 5%."

    • Saying without verification…..WD fanboi. Vacuous. Pick one

      • +4

        WD fanboi. Vacuous. Pick one

If you're trying to imply WD fanbois are vacuous, the above doesn't work. You'd be better to type something like:

        "WD fanboi. Objectivity. Pick one."

The whole 'pick one' thing implies a mutual exclusivity between the two terms given, whereas your original attempt excludes WD fanbois from being vacuous, which I don't believe was your intention.

Anyway, Seagate/WD - pick whichever is the best deal at the time of your purchase - there's very little difference between the two.

        • Seagate is good for shucking. Though this one is too thick to be useful.

Also, Seagate's 2TB slim drives are significantly slimmer and smaller in all dimensions than Passports which are bigger than they used to be. But even the old Passports (including Slim one) isn't as slim as a WD Slim.

I think Seagate has superior body design.

          • +2

@lostn: Yeah I'll admit that I'm mostly using Seagate for my external drives at the moment. And that's mainly because of WD soldering the controllers to the HDD in theirs.

    .
nice try OO I have Amazon Prime but prefer the MSY WD 3TB deal on tomorrow as Seagate warranty is 2 years but the WD warranty is 3 years

    • +5

Good luck with stock, MSY…have been… dodgy

    • Not sure if still the case, but last I checked Seagate Backup Plus Portable drives in US region had 1 year warranty, instead of 3 years offered in AU region.

  • I am waiting for the new LaCie Mobile Drive to come out.
    (announced in ces 2019)

  • Cheers, grabbed one!

  • I've paid $192 in October 2018. fro FUTU online ebay deal

  • I purchased a 4TB expansion drive from Amazon on Friday, but I'd rather buy this one. It hasn't started dispatch process, but on the site there is no option to cancel it. On the site it says if it is from Amazon AU I can refuse delivery to return it, if it's sold or fulfilled by Amazon AU. However this comes from "Amazon Commercial Services" in the US. Any idea if I can refuse delivery and get full refund? The product page is https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B017KE8OG0/ref=ppx_yo_d….

  • Thanks got one. Now I just need to figure out why I bought it.

Always plan for a good back up:

The conventional wisdom by tech experts on backups is known as the 3-2-1 method. Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose.
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example).
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster.

    • +1

3-2-1 is a good rule. "2 different mediums" doesn't mean two different drives though. It is actually two different types of media. e.g. one copy on hard disk, and another in the cloud.
Also remember to test your backups.

  • amazon.com has black for $106.07 us which is ~$147.06 aud + delivery.

  • +2

    Black is now $163.89 :)

  • +1

    Shuckable?

    • +1

Yes it is. However it is thicker than the normal 2.5" HDD.
