Just in store, or in certain stores/cities/states? They're all showing "Sorry, temporarily unavailable" for me here in SA.

    • Ditto - NSW

Edit: Oops! Once I logged in I found stores with stock. Thanks OP!

      • +1

I logged in and still can't see stores with stock anywhere here.

    $10.25, 25yr warranty.

    • It's amazing

      • +10

Plenty of time to find out if this will poison your body.

        • +1

Agreed. I highly recommend Stainless Steel. If you want non-stick use a little bit of organic extra virgin coconut oil.

  • showing as temporarily unavailable for me for both frypans.

  • they are half at BIGW

    • +2

Looks like higher range products at Big W. Worth the extra money for Elegance models?

      • +1

There are so many Tefal models, how do you rank them? Is Elegance better than Intuition?

        • +1

Could be similar to the strategy stores and manufacturers take with beds and baby car seats - different each model slightly (a colour on a panel), call it something different and avoid price matching.

Any of the non-stick frypans Teflon free?

    • +2

      I'd say not.

If you want Teflon free, you need to look for a pan specifically labelled as PTFE free.

      • +3

That only means it’s different. It doesn’t mean it’s safe.

  • +4

Better off waiting for the cast iron pans to go on special at Amazon again. They'll last a lifetime if they're looked after.

    • +1

      What brand?

      • Probably Lodge. I bought some off amazon. They are heavy af, and require hand washing and oiling. And they are definitely NOT non stick… I can’t see using a cast iron over a non stick frypan for day to day use

        • They are if you season them correctly.

    • I just bought one from Victoria's basement.

Got the Acrosteel 26cm frypan few weeks back, very happy so far.

  • the missus' bday gift sorted, cheers

    • +3

I hope by that you mean you're going to cook a luxurious dinner for her on one of these pans

      • +1

Can make a good omelet for the missus on Sunday morning to calm her down.

This Stonehenge pan from the same brand has the highest rating so far, 17 reviews of 5 star ratings.

      • I got the Stonehenge last week after seeing those reviews and so far so good. Was willing to spend a lot more on a decent frypan so was glad to find those reviews and try out a cheapie

      • The Stonehenge are great little pans. The only thing that lets them down is the handles always come loose, and need constant re-tightening, up to the point where the handle is loose, but the screw won't tighten any more. We just get a new one every 6 months or so in the 30% off sales.

Cannot fault the arcosteel, have been using them for years (after previously using tefal).

These should be the go-to ozbargain fry pans.

        • +1

Buy some locktite to reduce the handle issue, may save you some cash in the longer term.

          • @[Deactivated]: Is locktite heat resistant?

            • @sk3iron: It may be but I doubt it's food safe when it is heated and emits fumes…

  • My old arcosteel lasted about 10 years, great pans. I bought another one and use it all the time. Don't put it in the dishwasher though or it will degrade rapidly. Same with all non stick pans imo, regardless of whether they say "dishwasher safe".

The arcosteel are anodized aluminum so no teflon

  • Hi all, just got the intuition fry pan (24cm). At half price, it is a bargain, no ways you get this quality under $20. It is really good quality if you compare to Aldi or Fry pans under $20. I paid my stainless steel fry pan $40, at half of that price, it is decent. I recommend anyone to give a try.

  • Over Christmas I was using an amazing 30 year old cast iron fry pan at my partners Mom's house. Can anyone recommend a good cast iron fry pan brand?

    • LODGE

      • just chiming in about cast iron - yes heavy but great for heat retention and as for non-stick they improve with age - the more you use the more carbonisation and the surface can almost become glasslike - just like an old BBQ plate - plus you can put a metal scraper on it if you have to - they are pretty much indestructible and will last generations rather than 5 yrs for a non-stick. Plus no problem putting entire thing in oven - no rivets or handles to get loose.

As for reccos, while Lodge is popular and well known, check out Victoria, a South American brand, which has only just become available in Oz. I was looking for a pan and liked the bigger spouts and longer handle, but did not buy as I found a pan in an op shop as the stock was not here then.

  • Teflon needs to hit 400+ degrees for it to become toxic to humans through inhalation and not a known carcinogen.

No oven is going to get that high (maybe during a pyrolytic cleaning cycle) and definitely no coocktop.

Which one of these is both PTFE and PFOA free?

  • Thanks OP. When does the sale end? Noticed anodised fry pan not avail?

    • +1

Not sure when it ends. I don't think there would be much stock remaining so would be difficult to find any in stores now.
