      Its bread…

      • +8

        It's sugar bread.

        • +3

          It's Brioche.

That's bread enriched with egg and butter.

          • +4

            @spaceflight: …and sugar.

            • -2

@Womb: Fruits have sugar. Your point?

              • @No ONE: @Womb is just saying that the bread is still unhealthy because it has added sugar. This sugar is not the same as the naturally occurring one that are found in fruits. There's a reason why doctors recommend eating fruits and don't recommend drinking soft drinks.

    • +7

      Whole processed grains aren't healthy.

These contain refined grains which are even less healthy.

Pretty sure they were always this price? Atleast in SA

I bought these begrudgingly after Aldi and Woolworths were both sold out of regular burger buns. Often brioche buns are too sweet for me. It was honestly one of best homemade burgers I’ve ever had. The buns were really nice and not overly sweet like some brioche. Would definitely buy again!

I want another one now :(

      Nice. Pic of my Aldi brioche hotdog;

Lol, someone down-voted my homemade dinner. Are you a vegan or just a meanie? Haha.

      • +2

You called it a hotdig but used a sausage. Thats prob why they downed you lol.

        • +1

          A hotdiggitydog?

      • +9

Sausage could have been a bit browner.

        Tough crowd here at OzB

Edit: I don't mind doing a cheese kransky in a briosch bun. It's like WW3 in my mouth.

        • +9

          Tough crowd indeed.

Background: 28th December. Wife and kids took off down south for a beach holiday. I am stuck at home with a newly broken, right ankle. I get frustrated and (very naughtily) drive myself to Aldi. Get crutches out and buy a pack of these famous Ozbargain Brioche buns I heard about, a pack of wagu beef sausages and a bag of kale salad. I struggle home and cook. Take photo. Send to Mrs. Pain level 9/10. I reckon I did alright for a crippled man.

          • +5

@Ge3ks: Extra points for Wagu beef, but then they get deducted for Kale salad.

          • +3

@Ge3ks: I know how it feels to be in plaster whilst the family are enjoying a beach holiday. + 1 for the effort, though I wondering what the hell you were thinking with the Kale… the Mrs is away.

            • +3

@heal: Ha, thanks. Moon boot for me. Had to take it off so I could drive then put it on again once I got to Aldi. Man that hurt. I am a stupid man, as evidenced by the Kale decision. Ruined a perfectly unhealthy meal.

          • +3

@Ge3ks: Tricks for good sausages: cook em slow, it helps to properly render the fat in the sausage and also makes them taste better. Also butter is your best oil for snags, try it you will see.

Also if you gota do heaps say for a bbq, boil them, microwave to get em a lil warm then spray oil 2 sides and brown on bbq.

            :)

      • Yeah I think its cause of the hotdog VS Sausage comment,

        (btw it is a sausage)

        • +3

Yes it is a sausage. I guess I casually call a sausage in a long bun a hotdog. I'm not one for semantics. Should I have called it a sausage sizzle? A sausage dog?

      • Looks delicious! I'll have to try them too!

    • +1

that is a beautiful burger sir

      • +1

Not that it really matters but ma'am* thanks :D it was fabulous. I think they were aldi burger patties too, very tasty!

        • sorry, my bad for assuming your gender as "sir" lol

  • +1

Let's talk burger cheese. Whats the best way to pull off A MELTING DELICIOUS YELLOW cheese in a burger at home?

    • +4

You put the cheese on top of the patty around 30 seconds before you take it out. Works best if you have a lid.

    • +1

The best I've found to use in Australia is Jarlsberg. It melts well and the sightly sweet, nutty flavour goes well with beef. I'd love to use Monterey Jack but to the best of my knowledge we can't get it here.

      • Monterey Jack is sold in costco and aldi.

Costco one is alright, can't comment on the aldi one as I have never bought it.

        • Oh man, thank you! :) I need to start paying more attention to Aldi. I've only ever used them for the occasional Wednesday/Saturday special buy, not groceries.

          • @bataleon: You should be able to get it in cheese board type cheese, just not slices and itd be expencive.

If your feeling keen you can also put baking paper in a pan, put cheese on it and melt/brown it. Then just place burger on it then use tongs to flip it onto the bun and pull paper off.

            Or the lid trick.

            • @Seedy seed: Thanks mate, I'll go on a hunt tomorrow. The baking paper technique you're describing sounds great, I'll definitely try it. It's like a less extreme (and better for burgers) version of the "melted cheese tray" videos I've seen. The lid method is cool, especially for making a "cheese skirt" but for regular melting I'm ok with just throwing the cheese on straight after flipping the patty. Goddamn, now I'm hungry.

              • @bataleon: Lol if you cook bacon, then put it on the cheese then on bread it tastes alot like a cheese and bacon roll 😂😂

                • @Seedy seed: Haha, I see what you did there! 🥓🧀🍞🤪😬😓

      • FYI now Coles has their own Monterey Jack Cheese Slices for $4

        https://shop.coles.com.au/a/a-nsw-metro-top-ryde/product/col…

        • Thanks mate, that's awesome! It's so good to see it become an option here :)

    • +1

Put it on as soon as you flip the burger and make sure you're using a coal bbq at at least 1million degrees Celcius :)

  • +1

Omg, I didn’t know these existed, I’ll be fat forever

    • +3

As far as brioches go, imo aldis ones are the best by far. Less sweet than woolies ones.

  • -3

what's with these sweet burger buns, sweet buns suck i'll take a normal plain roll for a burger

    • +5

      Oh it was you.

      • -3

Ge3ks, you tell me your burger, and i'll tell you if it's worth eating.

    • +3

I agree - a normal roll, and not one of those weird flat almost square things they call burger buns….and not one of those tiny rolls that seem to have replaced normal sized rolls … but a proper decent size normal roll….or decent Turkish bread lightly toasted on the outside.

      • +1

see +wazzac knows what he's on about, a tiny bit of sweetness is okay. It's said these are less sugary than coles/woolies ones, still wouldn't risk it.

    • +2

I hate super sweet brioche buns but these are actually really tasty and not really sweet at all.

      • Mate you should hear what ladies say about my buns

        • +1

          That they're inadequate?

  • +3

Aldi Brioche buns are really good. They have less sugar than the Coles and Woolies ones and taste a lot better.

    • +2

Ok so they have less sugar, see this is what i'm talking about, people actually giving info on products, the coles ones are fricken horrible

      • Agreed, theyre so dense and almost have a burnt taste to them. ALDI ones are amazing.

    • how light are they? I really hate dense, tough bread.

      • Very light. The only downside is that they don't last long. A few days tops. I'd suggest buying them the day you want to use them.

  • Just out of curiosity, is this better than the one at WW? Not burger buns but still brioche….

    eBay here I come!

  • These are sugar and butter buns. 100% unhealthy at any price,

  • +2

Just a heads up, the burger paddies that ALDI sell in a 4 pack are seriously delicious. Ive always bought mince and made burger paddies myself but laziness made me buy them one day and oh my lord, i cant beat them. Flatten them out, throw on the bbq then throw them on those brioche buns and you feel like you could open your own fast food chain.

    • Yep, that's what I had in the burger I posted a photo of above, it was a seriously good burger! would eat again.

    • Nice! I’ve always wondered if they would be any good!

  • Beef and pork mince 50/50 ratio for the win.

  • Usually 2.49 so technically 20% off. Love these buns!
