LG B8 4K UHD AI Smart OLED TV 65" $2995 / 55" $1995 @ JB Hi-Fi

120

I found this newsletter from JB HiFi this morning. Seems to be a hot price for these good model TVs

I should've waited for a few more days instead of buying a 60" LED TV on Boxing Day.

  • I'm looking at a new tv these sales. Does the B8 suit me best? I do a combination of free-to-air, streaming, games, and lots of sport. The room is not super dark (relatively bright in summer months)

OLED is great for sports and gaming. If the room gets very bright (direct sunlight) you might want to look at a LED.

I have C8 and my front lounge room and the room very bright. I have had no issues with how bright the tv is. I only have it at 80% brightness too.

LG OLED’s have got near black flashing issues.

    • Haven't noticed it on mine maybe it's an issue on some sets and not others ?

      • +1

It seems to be an issue that crops up on certain types of content. People in the comments can reproduce the issue on their sets when given a certain TV show or movie and a time code. It also depends on your picture settings as to how prominant it is. Most importantly if you don't notice it, just be happy. No point trying to find something to be unhappy about!

Vincent is easily the best TV reviewer out there at the moment. As much as I like rtings (and I do), he doesn't rely on instrumentation alone. "Vinnie" always takes it a step further and investigates user reported issues and when he notices an anomaly himself he gets technical and tries to explain what is happening and why. Coming from a graphics and video career of 12 years in a past life I find him very informative, his knowledge and analysis are first rate. He's the type of guy LG would respect professionally and they would be more likely to fix this issue through firmware now he has brought it to light (like the luminance adjustment delay LG 2018 OLEDs were experiencing in HDR that was fixed within a couple of months after he published). Having a guy like Vincent around is benefical for everyone, he helps bridge that chasm between manufacturers and customers.

      • I am liking his reviews. He approaches any reported issues not to bag the model but to find why its happening and what possible solutions to mitigate it.

So that's fixed? That's great. I knew about it from his video, but didn't want to share it, because once you see it, you couldn't unsee it.

        Glad LG fixed it.

As for HDTVTest (Vincent), I agree, great reviewer who knows his stuff.

        • I'm the opposite. I watched the review of the th-55fz950u and he mentioned/showed the slowdown in certain scenes in a bluray that has dolby vision. He also noted that there is little to no hdr10+ content.

Personally I may not have noticed it had I not seen his review however having seen it still did not deter me buying it as he stated this tv has one of the best picture quality. Which is high on my list. That and it was a little over $200 cheaper from the likes of Sony and lg.
